As for Kuro, such comments are what caused my decision to not be nailed to the cross for your sins, but instead to flip out and kill a bunch of Romans.

This is true. But I generally prefer having character with limited abilities and improvising those abilities as the circumstances require. Limited abilities rather than limited actions. Helps me think, when I can do very little, but can do it in a lot of different ways.
Not enough to win often, even against NPCs, but more than enough to keep the character alive if I want him to, except when people really go off the deep end with their powers and are really determined to kill me. Which has never happened so far, but I figure if some crazy psycho decided he had an issue with one of my characters simple, weaker abilities wouldn't stand up enough to even run from some of them.

WTF?
What kind of a cheap character can control two of the three elements, and electricity? Complete manipulation of even one element is enough to do a helluva lotta damage.
Unless this is talking really limited control.

Not so much if I used a powerful character. I make rather few, only one that I roleplay for non-combat purposes, and they've all got about a million back-ups built in incase of situations, especially combating people with similair powers to their own.
Just that I prefer not to make powerful ones. I prefer to be in lower power places with lower power character so mine don't have to be stronger to match up.
I just find it more fun to stick to plain ol' simple stuff unless I need to use more because my opponent is.
I've optimized more than once with characters whose abilities consisted of only stopping/limiting/countering others abilities in some way, shape, or form. I'm quite ready to take care of my self, or see my own tricks tossed back at me.
Besides. Before the point of ridiculous overpowerment, the harder it is the more fun, eh?

I think it was rather limited control. Son Hakkai is a very skilled roleplayer, and his control of his powers were well done.
Tactical thoughts? Out of ten, how well did Azmaru/Humbra do?
