The problem with Leviathan is that it went to a guild.
Essentially, when you have a group of people controlling what goes on in a world, it is no longer a freeform world to the same extent as it was before. Now it's a world with staff that control whether or not people can make new threads, new locations, new quests, and so forth. As much as I like Levi and (most) of the people in it, that's the primary fault. Over time, it simply closed the net too tightly, and now much of its potential population has slipped away.
Applying a much more lax standard in the form of a sort of charter or affiliation system that allows for threads in a much more public area of roleplay such as Commerce to join and extend the network simply has the potential to be more effective - your chances of gathering a larger population spanning more ACTIVE threads is greater.

well, we could do like Viz says and have scales like 1-9, with "limiters" in an area,
with points going into excess translating loosely as the "soccer mom exemption". Basically the unknown force that keeps mall rats alive in movies where the monster is killing all the protagonists - godzilla films excluded.
It's a loopy mechanic but it could work both ways.
If you have power cosmic and you enter a place where you aren't allowed to use it, perhaps you have the power comic instead, and random s**t keeps saving you where your "power" isn't allowed to function. Of course, that mechanic is easily abused.

I want Gaia MAINSTREAM to happen.
It won't though.
So why are we even talking about it?
Lets go back to trolling each other.

Liquid Lights Pardon my idealism, but I see immersion. I see environment. I see-- CINNAMONY SUGAR SQUARES IN EVERY BITE.

Rhoslyn Vernal Amigone Labs .Inc I would like to see what most define as known in gaia. Deitric is known, KB is known, Ross is known, Sey is known. Etc, etc.
If we mention a name, and enough people go "I think I know who that guy is, from " that's known. And yet I know a lot of people who know none of them unless they stooped to following little shindigs like this. It's like one big tree, since these groups tend to branch out to trace back to a unifying person.

Oh, it'll happen. I'm going to bother people until someone with more skills than me makes a Gaia Mainstream banner, and people post it in their threads.
The people who don't get it are trying to make us our own little world with rules and unity and togetherness, which will not work. The people who do are arguing over "What is relevant to Mainstream?"
@Amigone: Well, this isn't a little shindig, GTB is Mainstream as far as I am concerned. So is HoH.

Fair enough, Ace. Mebbe, just maybe it is more an issue with me. All I've got is my own personal experience to go by, after all.
Still, my other points still stand.
Also, a judge for my fight with KB would be cool right about now. He and I are pretty much done by this point.

If I keep posting, you might just get the point!
Yes, if a knight is slaying people on the ground and a spaceship comes, then he has no real chance of fending it off. That's why this is freeform roleplay with as many people having fun as possible, not just isolated plot arcs that have a determined beginning and end ( like some Barton threads choose to, not that there's anything wrong with that ).
So instead of the knight just dying, he asks his spaceship character friend to come and ******** up the bad guy's ship.

EDIT: Well, I think it makes sense for the people who get the most media attention and networking IC are the ones most Gaians would have heard of, but maybe that's just me.If this is the case, Ross, I'm probably considered "Known" in a few non-rp threads. This rp/tourney scene is new for me. And mind you, my "known" status is only amongst a couple of threads, so I'll just keep myself in the unknown category. QQ

KB gets it.
I'm just some random oldfag who likes making lists.
For example, I have a list of traits I want in my women. I have a giant wall of lists that is the front page of the BSB that aside from me, nobody else has ever read.

It's an event like HoH and DT and all the other tournaments.
I'd like to see a non fighting based event personally.

Liquid Lights Bookmarked. And while I would have liked to stumble upon it- it is an airship, so that won't be happening. BUT JUST IMAGINE. In a unified world, that ship could be at a spot on the world map. People could see it up there. Instead, there could be some raging nightmare battle outside some blood bar with a giant monster in the commerce, 3,000 feet below your airship, that might as well not exist. Pardon my idealism, but I see immersion. I see environment. I see UNITY. That's essentially what I'm suggesting. The only difference is, what I'm proposing isn't going to stagnate as quickly, because it allows for a much broader scope of people to interact. What some people are suggesting (and what Levi is, in a sense) is a box. It's a sandbox that allows people to do, to some extent, what they want in it. That's good, right? Right. But a box is closed in, in two ways - one you have to find a way into the box, and then once you're inside, you can only work within the boundaries of the box and what has happened inside of it. To follow that analogy, what I and others are suggesting is more akin to making dots, and then connecting them. There's nothing stopping you from putting a dot anywhere, however big you want it, in any shape you want - but your dot is still interconnected to every other dot in this sort of constellation. Everyone is free to do as they please with their own ideas for locations, organizations, threads, and so forth, but all these things are then interconnected by virtue of sharing the same "creative space." They all coexist, and that coexistence is acknowledged, allowing for people to world-build as they like. EDIT:: As an aside, I don't support the idea of "known" characters. I have never liked the idea of that, simply because to me it feels as if others are being ignored in favor of "popular" characters. When a character accomplishes something, such as winning a tournament, it would be known in all the interconnected threads anyways, without needing a list to prove it, because they would all have connection to the event and acknowledged that it happened. No list required.
