exp. 99 Hell, the big reason I don't post in the OOC often, despite how much I lurk is the general feeling of it being a small, closed group that makes for a very easy means of alienating someone who doesn't get all the inside jokes, references and s**t. I don't know half the s**t you all talk about in gaian history, despite being around and reasonably active since '04.
This is just an aside, but I've been roleplaying on Gaia for less than a year, and have only been involved with anyone in this particular OOC group (and I'm not just talking anyone who's online and talking right right this moment, but ANYONE who posts regularly in this thread)
...earliest, -maybe- five months. I doubt even that long.
I don't get most of their inside jokes or even the common-knowledge internet memes being used, don't know who anyone's talking about half the time ( Like who on earth Ertai and Chen are... )
For all intensive purposes I'm a total newbie and don't feel alienated at all, in fact, I feel very much a part of the group -- that's just a mental roadblock. If you don't get an inside joke, ask someone on the side. If you're feeling left out or alienated, it's up to you to take the initiative to turn that around -- but if you're being chased off, it's because you're letting yourself be. ^^; Just my thoughts, anyway.

It's going to be just as effective as the wall of text in your thread, Rosa.
Not very. Not at all, outside of your thread.

Hey You. "Lord of the Venom Signet".
It's time to go do the laundry.
@Rhos; I also love walls of text. If you want any help hashing out that background section, I'd be happy to offer my services x3

Threads can still maintain their own power levels, even within the umbrella of these "interconnected canon" threads.
If my thread has a power level of 3 as its max, people are going to know not to wander in with characters at like level 6, or 7, or 8.
Each thread still gets some control over its traffic and so forth, but this way there's no overarching ruleset that MAKES threads confirm on every level, because that is what will basically kill the entire concept.
Looser = wider net = more people getting involved. When you're talking about wanting to build a bigger, stronger community, you NEED more people.
Getting ten threads that have some varying standards and ideas > two threads with the eaxt same ideas, standards, regulations, and (as it would turn out) people.

Ace: Chen is Vin's token Asian Police Officer. Jackie Chan, basically.
Ertai is some dude with powers so off the wall and a huge ego, making it mega hilarious.

And we come back around to the main point of freeform: the honor system.

Whoohoo.

See, Darth is one of those people that gets it. So is Sey, and Iden. More or less anyone who's been around for a long time gets it.
I don't hold it against newbies that don't get it. We all considered or attempted unifying standards of Gaia at least once, and tasted bitter defeat. XD

It won't be THAT bad, just a few simple sections.
1. The definition of Mainstream.
2. A list and short description of all participating threads.
3. A list of "known" organizations.
4. A list of "known" people.
5. All the other s**t people like me and Elli would love to complie and read.

The Darth Vizzle Roleplaying in Gaia, when you want to expand outwards to include more people, is like holding water in your hand - make a fist, squeeze tightly, and try to bind it further, and it just slips between your fingers. This. Only thing that'll work is to trust the thread creators to set things up, and to get like minded people to link their threads up by saying "hey, we interact with doods from over there sometimes, check them out if you like it here" Anything more is just wishful thinking.

You know what I get?
I get that you take fancy badge and place it on your thread with links to other connected threads.
Done and done.
NOW PLAY WITH EACH OTHER.
Damn.

Yeah, Van, woohoo. It's totally a good thing to let people know if your thread is mainstream.
Now throw a link up for it so all the other mainstream thread owners can put a link to it in their mainstream thread. That's the point.
