I don't know why the Levi has such a bad rap, and I don't want to.

I wouldn't be surprised if every one of you have gotten, or could get, and invite to the guild with little or no questions asked.

You can't make a thread? A location? A continent?

Contact one of the Levi GM's, tell them your plan, and I'm sure they'd love to see the guild expand. I don't think that place is as closed off as people like to think it is. I also don't think that the people running it are against a bunch of roleplayers coming in and kicking up the heat with plotlines and s**t going on.

The levi-verse the closest thing to one solid, cohesive little world that we have

Just remember. When you say "we" you're only talking about Levi people. No one else.

No, I'm not. I'm talking about all of us. We all have characters that, when there's some event or tournament, all happen to live in the same world. In the same -area-. If there is some other playing field like the Levi that can hold all these players on the same plane of existence, please share it with me.

We all have access to it.

So I say WE.

"Levi people" doesn't mean anything to me and doesn't factor into the way I'm thinking about this.

The Fiend of the West
Liquid: Our canon environment?

We don't have one, in my opinion.

Levi is probably THY best example of a bunch of people avoiding what little 'canon' world there is in Gaian open board roleplaying in favor of 'closed' borders type s**t.

We need one. We have one that is available to us but we don't use it.

But maybe you're right. I suppose I'll message all of the Levi GM's and see exactly how they feel about it all. Personally, I don't see why any one of you would be against embracing what they've STARTED on; and I don't see why they would be against players expanding and enriching their world.

Standardizing is probably not going to work, nor is making some complex system over who has powers over what.

Simplicity. That is the only way it's gonna work. Once we get past recording what we generally consider to be disbelief-suspension-breaking s**t, and the general information, you're going to start alienating people and making it too hard to control.

If I had it my way, I would force people to use the Gurps system for character balance since it's best for freeform environments. But some people are just don't want to deal with it all.

If anything, a lesson from game design has to be taken: make it work for both casual roleplayers (those who like simple) and advanced players. Obviously, if you place more effort into building something, you will likely get a higher reward from it. So for people who like it simple, they get the most freedom in character creation, but are limited on the "power scale" of that character. For those who want to take the more twist and turns that will involve lots of revisions and hard work creating the character, their reward is that they are granted a higher power limit. And I'm not talking just abilities, but a story and making sure the flaws and quirks are worked out.

"3x5 card"

an expression I use for "fit all the important character s**t on a tiny piece of paper".

I once came up with a simplified stat system using emoticons:

heart = vitality/health/strength/stamina

ninja = agility/speed/deception/body skillz

idea = intelligence/willpower/tech/mind skills

mix and match them, toss in some prerequisites and points, and you have an RPG.

The people who get it, get it. The ones that don't, don't.

That's probably never going to change.

@Noire: Makes sense, but that's for Lu Bu. Systems can totally work for a single thread, or a group of people - but once you start branching out of that environment it turns into whole 'nother beast. One that I don't see being tackled feasibly.

Dude. Why's everyone making it complicated? Everyone who wants to make a mainstream thread, put your thread up for link grabbing and then other people who want to be mainstream do the same.

That's it. Done. Wee.

That being said, if anyone ever needs a heal in the Greater Barton Area - Durem, Isle de Gambino, Barton, Aekea - go to my Temple. D; I want BLOOD AND GUTS on my walls again.

All of you are already slow on the mainstream uptake. I've said that my thread was in Mainstream Gaia in the first post since it got dragged into Grand Hunt in '04.

I had an illithid once.

I kid you not his name was Jeff Joseph.

It was when I first started roleplaying with * these.

Technically, Monsieur Fiend, I could make this 'appen. The question remains 'owever. What's in it for moi?

@Martin; I'm sorry. If it makes you feel better, I applied for vacation and Vansin said no Y^Y We're all being decieved.

Much as I'd love to see something strong, everyone in here who advocates for loose restrictions and wing-it attitude is right.

I'm just rambling about wishes and desires.

But yeah, I think a stamp on involved threads and a promise to treat everything as cannon is the best gambit.

I'm probably still going to go beyond "these threads are connected" and make a handy reference topic where high-profile characters/organizations and a bunch of assorted background information will be, but like I said, I like walls of text.

GURPS doesn't scale right. Some characters cost 10,000 points and others cost 120 points and get the same game impact. Champions New Millenium Scales better and has a more flexible flaw system.

For either system though, If we assume all characters are built on 0 points, then people can balance their flaws and advantages to make things more workable. Then if you want a character improvement, you just take another flaw or lose some advantage.
