Mat thats why you buy imperial guard by platoon. Mass fires and once you have killed the gaunts cook the big bug with a melta shot. My storm trooper get meltas and plasmas. Good, solid plan. I usually will stick my meltas and plasmas into my command squads. Upgrade the retinue to veteran status and they'll even be able to hit their target. Yah, specialized squads with good BS is where to load the plasmas and meltas, but I still keep grenade launchers and heavy bolters in my infantry squads. That adds to the weight of casualties you can inflict upon the enemy. Got a monster/tank that's threatening your lines? that's where the colonel, his plasma pistol, and his four guys armed to the teeth come in. leave the hordes to the basic squads.

lol i agree with that tactic hold back your best armed troops in cover of like a building or a hill so they don't get vaporized by long ranged weapons... then sally them forward when the big expensive units come close to your line... then mister colonel says "here they come... (2 turns later) weak sauce" stare

lol baneblades to many guns and to flash... i would target every gun i had on one of those and blow it up... honestly unless you play like apocolips sized games i would not bother... nobody is stupid enough to let those things close and if they did they are going to slag it or immoblize it.

Baneblades don't "Get Close." They sit back and rain fiery hell upon things from range. Hellhammers have to close the gap a little more, but not that much.

And in non-apaoc games, regular sized MBTs can do the trick.
I run a basic russ with las hull and hb sponsons, two identical Demolishers with PC sponsons (a**-kickers, btw) a hellhound and chimera with flamer hull.
These five tanks do more than enough to get the job done.

then why are you even thinking about shooting little bugs with guards establish a base of fire with armor and keep the infantry in reserve to support the tanks as the vaporize them anything slips past your squads should easily mop up.

Or just get 3 Baneblades... Two baneblades and one hellhammer. Drive the latter into the enemy horde while the baneblades provide covering fire. Once the hellhammer is in the enemy lines hammer it with the baneblades. The resulting explosion should take care of a lot of the enemy. My friend Sam is such a clever b***h! rofl

I always thought a couple basilisks surrounded by a thick ring of expendable infantry meatshields would be interesting.

Inquisitor Brock I always thought a couple basilisks surrounded by a thick ring of expendable infantry meatshields would be interesting. My bro tried that. Wanna know what kills them? enemy fire. I like bassies, I really do, but I made the switch to Tank Heaven. The bassies have great firepower, but you need The leman russ chassis and it's variants. Then you don't need meatshields. Or failing that, just scrap the tanks all together for a conscript wall. they do good at blocking say, 'nid swarms or fast orks. Then just counter charge with a good assault unit. Did we already discuss the merits of allied inquisition forces in this thread? if so, I forgot, let's go back to that.
