In my tier, Jannas who know what they're doing are rarer than Eves who know about Oracle's Elixirs, and Jax is actually a viable option. lol There are very few characters who aren't viable in solo queue, the problem with Jax (and Tryndamere) is that they tend to be all-or-nothing. When they farm well and get fed, they roll entire teams with very little effort, but if they get even remotely shut down by the opposing team, they're nothing but a burden. The only character I'd say isn't very good in solo queue is probably Heimerdinger, and even then, a skilled player can still wreck faces with him, despite not having 7 turrets anymore. And then there's fiddlesticks, who eats everyone one v one oh god make it stop
also @N: There are very few carries that aren't a nightmare when they're fed, though. If you gotta rely on that, I'd say you're not a viable option. I just wish Morgana could turret dive. - w- Then I'd be set. She's not fast enough to tower dive. Her MSPD is atrocious.
Though she can sneak around into the bush and ******** recallers' s**t with that soil move if she acts fast.

A good ranged carry is almost necessary for any good team, I'm just saying that ranged characters tend to be weaker in the crowd control and escape area and are much more prime targets for ganks from assassins like the aforementioned characters who are pretty good at setting up their own kills.

Ashe is the only exception, Fiddlesticks is just a pubstomper, and his fear is iffy, Anivia is a mage, not a carry, and Teemo doesn't have any hard crowd control, just tricks that might or might not help, depending on if someone on the opposing team is packing Oracle's Elixir.
