all the employees at my ocal GW are telling me to take a 5 man squad, all with shot guns, so i can come in on a table edge, shoot 10 times, and then assault to mop up the enemy, where as i want to sniper rifel crazy. But, they have yet to steer me wrong.

I'd buy the codex and read it before making a squad, and checking around several forums to see what they use.

Inquisitor Brock I'm looking forward to assembling an army. But i want them to look good, so I'll have to do some practice on my older models. lol, double post. xD Wish you luck on that one mate. smile

I have 2 identical scout squads (exception of Vet.Serg´s, one has a power fist/weapon, other just power weapon) with same gears: 2 CCW, 2 Bolters, 4 Snipers and a missile launcher. Not only does this give me more bodies and weapons o the squad, but since I can Combat-Squad them to 5 men units, I can leave the snipers+ML on a cover to give fire support and let my bolter-CC commando´s do their sneaking. ninja
Unfortunally my luck with scouts have usually lead to them being dead quicker then any of my space marines, I rarely ever use them. Quess I´m just much better with just Sit-Down-And-Shoot tactics then anything else. crying
The Shotgun was junk in the older codex, but in this new one it´s much better with it´s S4 value. smile And with the camo-cloak that grants +1 cover should prove useful to them, so I might just give them another try to see if they are worth anything to me.

Do you guys paint the individual pieces of the models themselves, or do you assemble them then paint them?

Inquisitor Brock Do you guys paint the individual pieces of the models themselves, or do you assemble them then paint them? On showcase miniatures I paint each piece sepparately, but when building an army I glue them together, undercoat and paints them.

Alright, cool.
Have you tried the magnetizing thing, where you can swap out weapons?

from what ive heard, its very difficult to do that on some units, fortunately space marines are bigger and bulkier than say, tau, or eldar. so it would be easier to do on the marines. the only magnetized model ive seen in person was a skyray skimmer that could be swapped for a hammerhead.

I majorily just glue them all together and then paint them, with the exception in my chaos army with horsemens and chariot (keep the horse and rider separate).
Tanks and larger model (Nids mostly I think) are more commonly magnetized for easy weapon swapping. On more smaller size models like marines and guards I would suggest having extra models with different weapons, rather then trying to stick a magnet and still make the model look practical/cool.

Well I've read a review of putting magnets in the wrists and shoulders of SM since they are so bulky.

the only other thing i can think of is: if you are going to magnetize the individual space marines, make sure the magnets you get are strong ones. if theyre weak, arms that are supposed to be up in the air will fall, and they may even come off. as far as i know, small, strong, magnets will probably run you $2 each, so thats at least $8 per model. hence the reason most people only magnetize high cost units

I've seen a really good use for magnets. This guy at my local GW magnetised his flying stands so they wouldn't break off he did say it was pretty easy you just had to find the center of gravity on the vehichle.
