Huh? If you're saying there's nothing we can do about cars, then you're answering your own questions: Worry about quarters because that's something we can protect them from.

it just seems to me that more people die from cars than quarters. it may just be a hunch. call it a gut feeling.
edit- btw, i'm not really being serious here, not to demean the danger of cars, stairs or quarters. they are all equally lethal. just some moreso than others. razz

...Okay, now I'm really confused. You're saying that we shouldn't drill holes in quarters as a lifesaving tool, because cars are dangerous, and then you said, "we could spend those quarters on a anti-car protection spell." That didn't sound like you were taking protection from cars seriously at all.
I mean, I know that quarters aren't nearly the danger that cars are. But if you can prevent the danger of quarters by drilling holes in them, why wouldn't you? Just because there's something more dangerous doesn't mean we shouldn't think about the lesser dangers, and just because we're thinking about the lesser dangers doesn't mean we aren't thinking about the bigger dangers. And besides, the bigger dangers already have in place almost all the precautions they can, unless we are going to hook cars into an enormous computer which would control all traffic. Really, all you can do is instruct your children on safety around cars. And stairs.

Yes, and we aren't saying that you should drill holes in your quarters and start passing them out to kids and tell them to swallow. Stairs have rails because it makes them safer. Cars have headlights, and air bags, and rollcages, because it makes them safer. But cars and stairs are now about as safe as they are going to get. If you can drill holes into quarters to make them safer, why would you want to instead rely solely on parents telling their children not to swallow quarters?

kids probably shouldn't be eating currency of any kind. that's all i'm saying.
seriously though, if it is really that big of a threat, i say go for it. however, it may then cost more to make the quarter than $0.25... what with the electricity and drilling equipment

We're not talking about going around and telling people to buy their own drills, and make their own holes. And no, they shouldn't. Neither should they play around on stairs, or run in front of cars. But they do.

that's not wat i meant- and if it really is that simple to put holes in quarters, then they should probably go for it. ya know, i wasn't really being serious, i really don't see the big deal, and i really don't care what they do with quarters either way. i was simply being satirical and cynical. burning_eyes

Quote: sat·ire Audio pronunciation of "satire" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (str) n. 1. 1. A literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit. 2. The branch of literature constituting such works. See Synonyms at caricature. 2. Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity. Quote: cyn·i·cal Audio pronunciation of "cynical" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sn-kl) adj. 1. Believing or showing the belief that people are motivated chiefly by base or selfish concerns; skeptical of the motives of others: a cynical dismissal of the politician's promise to reform the campaign finance system. 2. Selfishly or callously calculating: showed a cynical disregard for the safety of his troops in his efforts to advance his reputation. 3. Negative or pessimistic, as from world-weariness: a cynical view of the average voter's intelligence. 4. Expressing jaded or scornful skepticism or negativity: cynical laughter. confused As I said to Lorysa, I don't think it would work because the holes wouldn't be large enough to let air through, unless they completely redid the design of the quarter. The only reason I argued with you is you seemed to be treating the idea like something not worth the time spent considering it. Which, if you really mean satire and cynical by their dictionary definition, that's exactly how you were treating it.

... I can't convince the Government to put holes in them, I was just bringing up a thought... didn't know it would be taken so seriously..!
They could make the holes bigger, they wouldn't have to do it in the middle, if I think about it. They could find a way to make the openings sort of big without making the coin easy to misshape or bend, maybe...
Like this? It would mess up the background and they'd have to get a new one for every state, but beathing is more important. Maybe it would get enough air for 1-6 year olds to live on? And wouldn't the doctors be able to get some kind of instrument to hook the holes? That would be helpful.. blaugh
