based on the PotC films, realistic portrayal was not the director's aim. I think the movies were supposed to be romanticized. The first one was the only half-decent one anyway. *stomps 2 and 3 with a giant boot*

I also think that Johnny Depp is slightly overrated. He is however an excellent actor *points stolidly toward Chocolat* I dislike the hype and I dislike paparazzi (and yes obnoxious 14 year olds who think he's the bee's knees for Pirates), but he can't just be written off in my opinion >.<

I suppose that's true Talon, he's often the loner/weirdo, now that I think about it. But I guess what I mean is that each loner/weirdo is totally different. Maybe it's that he does many different styles of movies, and that they're different types of stories. It's easy for an actor to get typecast, and though that may well be what's happening to him as the loner/weirdo, it doesn't feel like it.
*shrug* I never said I thought he was a good actor anyway, just a clever one.

Meh. There are a few films Johnny Depp is tolerable in. Chocolat is not one of them, Watch The Adding Machine. And also Edward Scissorhands is ok at times.
Anyway, after yesterday morning I am never, ever drinking again.
