That dragon is "Draco" I believe, it's ShadowCat's pet.

How come Lockheed was never in Mechanix or any of the newer issues with Kitty?

Yeah I think Lockheed, like many other X-Characters, got trapped in limbo. He did make an appearance in Astonishing like meantioned and in NXAX without Kitty there.
