The room was silent for several seconds. Most of the Officers in the room were smirking in amusement, or sneering derisively, but Trakkan himself simply kept his iron stare locked on Daniel. Looking into them, Daniel would see that this was a warrior through and through, who knew what he was doing, and was an experienced veteran of battle . . .

Perhaps he saw something similar in the RI representative, because he reached under the table and produced a sheathed shortsword (a longsword or broadsword for anyone who was human sized), and tossed it all the way across the room to Daniel. Then he called out the door, "Lenth!"

A few moments passed . . . and a Draconian adolescent stepped into the room. His scales were deep orange, and he stood a little under six feet. He was also somewhat slim by Draconian standards, and wore light leather armor. He also carried a shortsword across his back. "Yes, father?" he said, strolling into the room.

Trakkan gestured to Daniel. "Spar with this human. I wish to see how he skilled he is . . . and it will also give me a chance to evaluate how well you fare against someone with different training."

Lenth opened his mouth as if to protest, but Trakkan raised an eyebrow at his son, and the young Draconian closed it again. Then he turned towards Daniel, bowed his head, and drew the blade with his right hand.

Standing about six feet away from his opponent, Lenth held his sword out in front of him, pointed towards Daniel and kept his left arm ready at his side.

Well if that were a short sword, it would most certainly have been a good size for him. Daniel snatched the thing out of the air and drew it halfway. It was of good quality, nice and balanced. A little heavy, but when had he not dealt with something heavy before? So then, he would spar. Good, this was what he expected.

Daniel unsheathed the sword, grip in his left hand, sheath in his right. He placed the flat of the blade against his forehead in a salute, then pointed the weapon towards the Draconian for a brief moment... before coming straight at him as if he were going to run him through with the tip of the blade. But of course, as soon as he came within one meter of his opponent, the sword was put in motion as he turned to the right and brought the weapon to bear, aiming for Lenth's ribs on the left side with a backhand slash.

Game on.

Lenth turned his torso left, moved the sword so it was parallel to his shoulders, and pointed it down toward the ground to block with the flat of the blade. Simultaneously, he lashed out with his right foot to catch Daniel in the abdomen with a kick, intending to send him bowling backwards across the floor.

The boy was quick. Daniel was going to have to make a real effort here . . .

Holy s**t!

He only had limited time to tighten his abs and brace for impact, but he managed to do so just in time for the kick to come in. He hissed in pain, sliding back on his feet for a few seconds before recovering. Well, that wasn't good, but he had tried. And he would still try as he pointed the blade towards the Draconian again, circling around and trying to find some kind of angle.

He's fast. I expected that. Just didn't know how fast he was.

Daniel moved in again after ten seconds of trying to find an opening, suddenly having an idea. He brought the sword to bear this time, thrusting it towards the Draconian's throat. The sheath hadn't been used yet, but you never know...

Lenth held the sword right in front of his body, pointed straight up toward the ceiling, and this time he parried from left to right, knocking the blade off to the side. He also stepped forward, and aimed a left jab at Daniel's face with the intent of giving him a bloody nose this time . . .

Bingo!

Daniel saw him move this time and he quickly lifted the tip of his sword, turning low in a clockwise direction without realizing that the punch was coming in. But as a result, it went cleanly over his head anyway as he completed the turn, bringing the sheath around towards Lenth's legs.

Hopefully he wouldn't see the feint coming, and his balance would go out the window. The sword was held at the ready, just in case something stupid happened. But Daniel was sure that it wouldn't. At least, he was as sure as he could be anyway.

The sheath smacked into Lenth's leg, and he stumbled back, flailing his arms as he tried to catch his footing. He didn't go down, but it took him a couple seconds to balance himself again. When he did, he pointed his sword out on front of him again, and went on the offensive this time, raising his weapon overhead and bringing it down to strike at the top of Daniel's head . . . with the flat of the blade, of course. This was a spar, after all. Killing Daniel was not his intent.

But it was a bit late for that. Daniel was already on the move as his opponent stumbled, running towards him full tilt and still low to the ground. As he reached his foe's position, he suddenly rose upwards, straightened his back leg, and rammed into the Draconian with his left shoulder all at once.

Explosive, full-body power, meant to lift him off of his feet.

If that didn't topple him, what would?

WHAM

Lenth smacked into the floor upon his back, instinctively spreading his wings out to either side so they wouldn't be broken between his back and the floor. Then he quickly scrambled back to his feet, using his left arm to help him get up as he kept his sword pointed at Daniel with his right.

And now, Lenth came at him, doing as he had intended before and bringing the flat of the blade down towards Daniel's head in an overhead strike.

Wrong again. See, Daniel hadn't stopped moving. As a matter of fact as the Draconian hit the floor and was on his way back up again, Daniel was airborne. Three feet into the air he jumped, his sheath at the ready. That sword was coming down in an overhead slice with the flat side of the blade, aiming to simulate a final blow.

This would be it. The sheath would be used defensively this time.

Lenth, seeing Daniel come at him like that, immediately dropped on to his back again, raised his sword straight out above his head and parallel to his shoulders, and placed him palm against the flat of the blade. He also curled his legs up toward his chest . . .

The sheath would be stopped cold by Lenth's blade, followed shorty by a solid mule kick into Daniel's stomach to send him flying, and give the Draconian another chance to get back to his feet.

Daniel grinned as one blade met another. But then again, he had seen the Draconian move before hand, so he moved his legs into position to intercept the mule kick. Instead of being rammed into, his air lost, he was boosted backwards, taken for a joyride through the air.

He flipped in mid air until his feet were underneath him again and landed on his toes, five feet away. With that, he came at Lenth again and attempted to ram the flat of his blade into his opponent's forehead. The sheath was still set to move at any time, just in case.

But Lenth was already on his feet again by this time, and he was ready for Daniel. He blocked again, and also grabbed firm hold of his opponent's left wrist in his left hand. Then he took the opportunity to kick at Daniel's right shin, aiming to send him down on one knee.

Crap!

His sword hand was isolated. Immediately, that sheath came into play, ramming into Lenth's midsection before anything else happened. Sure it might not work, but if it did, the big guy would be winded. If it did work, Daniel would make with a right kick of his own, in that same area, trying to get him at a good distance.

And now that leather armor, combined with his scales, finally came in handy, softening the blow. It still hurt, but at least it didn't knock the wind out of him. His foot followed through with the kick, unhindered.
