Hidden Alchemy
Once the village had been completely overrun by the invading slime girl forces, it began to change. Nothing explosive or particularly destructive. The village was simply covered over by a dome, just like Hidden Substance was. This dome encased the entire village, as well as everything within it, both remaining humans and slime girls.

Offline Training - Hidden Alchemy: Ella and her various homunculus
On the boat ride back to his village he couldn’t help but think about Ella and the fake Ella of Hidden Twilight. Even though Sai knew the Ella in Hidden Twilight was nothing like the one he knew and loved, he couldn’t help but wonder if their wants were the same. He never explored too far into Ella’s mind. He didn’t want to know about any hidden fantasy she might have about someone else. Then his mind flashes to her and Psyche. Sai refrained before flinging his fist deep into the bowels of the boat and tearing a hole through it. He remembered the first time he and Shaneko road on this boat. He shakes his head to get Shaneko out of it and then returns to his thoughts on Ella only to have Psyche’s image there again. Why had she left? And why did he have to go with her? In comparison to the homunculi she took with her he was the weakest and the least necessary. She was hiding something from him and he knew that but why? What was she hiding that she couldn’t tell him? It couldn’t be her fear of the people after her. It couldn’t be the fear of having people attacking her home because she quit the exams. Why then?

As his boat nears the docks he notices a homunculi he hadn’t seen in a long time. It was Tybalt and he seemed to be walking towards the village after sinking a boat. Sai grimaces as he climbs to his feet on the boat. He raises an arm and then brings it crashing down into the boat beneath him. Water shoots up as he stands upright again. He leaps into the air as the boat slowly fills with water and then dives down. It penetrates the boat and it bursts to pieces. Hearing the noise Tybalt turns around to see Sai swimming towards the docks. Without a word Tybalt was gone. As soon as Sai reaches the shore he takes off in a sprint through the forest. “Ella,” he would call out but would receive no response.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Sai is coming,” calls out Tybalt as he pants. Tes furrows her eyebrows at Tybalt standing in the doorway.
“How’d he know we were here?”
“He spotted me but he was already coming in towards the docks. It was coincidental.”
“I bet that Naomi told him.”
“What’s going on,” asks a voice and Tes and Tybalt freeze. They slowly turn to face a figure standing in the hall of the Howard mansion.
“Ella…”
“Ella, Tybalt spotted Sai and he’s coming.” Ella clutches her chest hearing Tes’ words and Tybalt shakes his head.
“You could have been a little more subtle.”
“Am I ever,” Tes asks Tybalt who sighs. After a moment he disappears as does Ella. After a few minutes Tes disappears too.
Sai comes to the path leading up to the mansion and is met by Ella. She stares at him and he stares at her. She couldn’t figure out what to say so she supposed she’d just blurt something out but is beat out by Sai. “Why have you come back?”
“Wh-what do you mean by that,” stutters Ella nervously. She didn’t know what to say and was worried about seeing Sai again after so long. She hoped she could keep herself in check. After the many things that had happened to her in the past few weeks she had to be cautious about doing things or else she might become overwhelmed.
“After all this time… what made you finally decide to come back?” When he changed the question around a hint of a growl ripped from his throat. Ella takes a step back out of surprise.
“I… I missed you. I couldn’t stay away anymore so… I came back. What’s the matter? Why do you sound so angry? And… your eyes are a little red.”
“Sure you missed me,” he spat. It was becoming easier for him to be angry with her. He would be the bad boy. He would be the bad boy she wanted. “There’s nothing wrong with me. I’m finally seeing things clearly. So, why’d you leave in the first place if you were just going to return? It hasn’t been as long as it usually is when you run off.”
That stung. “You’re… you’re mad at me?”
“Yeah. Now stop beating around the bush. Why’d you leave?”
“I…” even now that the child was no longer there she couldn’t spit it out. It felt like a knot was in her throat. She couldn’t speak the words.
“Psyche got your tongue?”
That tore it. “I don’t give a rats @$$ whether or not you are justified in being angry with me or not but don’t insult me! How dare you say something like that to me! Have you lost your mind?”
“No, I found my voice, Ella! I’m not going to be shoved aside and saved for whenever you feel like having me anymore. You won’t keep hiding things from me either! I’m through bowing down to you! Now where were you?” Subconsciously Ella flings herself at Sai and grips his collar. She wanted to tear him to shreds. She wanted to completely obliterate him. She was so angry. But being so close to him and feeling their usual electric shock only made her sad. She releases him and flickers a few yards from him. “What’s the matter? Had second thoughts? Why not finish what you started? Look… I’ll even stand here and let you hit me,” he calls stretching his arms outward. She couldn’t believe him. She wanted so much to burst his bubble by telling him what all she’d been through but she didn’t want to speak of it. It hurt too much to remember. Even if she could speak the words without it being awkward she would still be hindered because she’d be afraid the flash backs, visions, and nightmares would come again. Ella’s breathing hastens as she stares at Sai. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes but fought them back. Sai wasn’t even looking her in the eyes. Had she hurt him that much by leaving? So much that he’d change like this? Things weren’t how she’d envisioned it. She thought Sai would be easier to talk to after her return but he wasn’t. He was causing the pain deep in her heart to tear away at her again. Why… why?
“Rafael,” she whispers and he is instantly in front of her. She inches close to his back and places her head on it. He tilts his head to look at her as she shakes her head. Rafael then turns to look at Sai who almost let his stern façade fade. He only glowered at him before he turns to Ella once more. She continued to fight the tears but she shook violently. Rafael’s body hid her from Sai’s view so he wouldn’t see even if he cared enough to.
“Ella,” asks Rafael but she only shakes her head. He nods and the two disappear leaving Sai to stand and look big and bad alone. Was he too hard on her? No. He had to be. That’s what she wanted, right? Of course… of course.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“What happened? Why is she shaking and crying like that?”

“I don’t know Angelle. She was talking to Sai.”

“You think he said something to upset her?”

“I don’t know. For all I know she could have upset herself. But Sai didn’t look innocent. I had a tiny feeling he made her upset like this but I wasn’t sure. Else I would have had to teach him a thing or two.” Ella grips at Rafael’s arms and he sighs. Rafael pries one arm from Ella’s grip and rubs her back but she continues to cry and shake. Angelle paces in the clearing and stops thinking someone was approaching then began pacing again.

“Come on Ella. Stop crying and tell us what happened. It’s easier to talk about it.”

“H-he…” she starts only to begin shaking more and crying a little louder.

“Someone will hear you crying,” coos Rafael. “You don’t want us to have to knock out curious neighbors.” It was a joke. There was no one in the forest where they were or even close. Rafael and Angelle analyzed this place and the only one that could make it to where they were or even find them was Sai and Ella would reveal if he was approaching or not. They would not be found. Ella did not laugh nor did she ease her crying and shaking.

“Ella…” Angelle couldn’t figure out how to get her to stop and simply knelt beside Rafael and pet Ella’s head. Ella was in her hiding form now. There was no need to be in her more adult form any longer. “What can we do?” Angelle never would have imagined she’d be like this with Ella of all people but she was. Angelle wouldn’t even blame Ella if she became evil after this. What they did to her was cruel. It was even worse than what Naomi would do. She makes it obvious she’s going to try and kill you. If she can’t beat someone without sneaking around then she would do something to force them to let her kill them or gain control of them.

“He’s different,” Ella finally says as she tries to cease her crying.

“Who,” asks Angelle as she pets her head more.

“Sai… he h-hates me.”

“What,” growls Rafael. Ella sniffs and then starts crying again.

“Make it stop,” she cries.

“What Ella,” begs Angelle.

“I… I keep seeing him…”

“Sai,” ask Rafael and Angelle at the same time. Ella shakes her head and breathes in and out shakily.

“The child,” asks Angelle sadly and Ella nods then begins crying more. Angelle sighs and falls back onto her behind. There was nothing that could be done now. Ella would have to get control of her self if that was what was troubling her. Rafael, with no avail, continues trying to soothe her by rubbing her back. Hours passed before Ella finally lost consciousness from all the memories and thoughts that filled her head. That was when Rafael and Angelle took her back to the Howard home to rest.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After talking for most of the day the homunculi depart from the Howard home to venture here and there. The area where Sai had been was left vacant. The Howard home was empty except for Ella and Tes. “I want to go and see him.”
“Are you a glutton for punishment, Ella?”
“I want to see him…”
“What if you lose it in front of him?”
“Maybe that’s what it takes.”
“You’re crazy.”
“I guess I couldn’t fulfill my debt to you.”
“Don’t say that, Ella. Stop beating yourself up over that. It wasn’t your fault. That d**n earring was a bad idea. It might not have been such a bad idea if we hadn’t left you with just those four. Maybe if we’d left Kill Joy behind things would have been different.”
“Can I?” Tes looks at Ella and digs her nails into the floor beneath her.
“Go… but don’t mention me letting you leave if things go sour. And don’t get mad if I follow you and tear Sai’s head from its place on his shoulders if he upsets you.” Ella wiggles off of the bed and places a hand atop Tes’ head.
“Worrywart.” With that Ella was gone. Creatures screech angrily at Tes only for one screech to silence them. The creature that was always the calmest was like Tybalt when Nimen had all those spirits following after her. He kept the others in line and was closest to her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sai leans against a tree while looking up at the sky. “Sai,” questions Ella as Sai tilts his head to see Ella looking at him. She was on her knees a few feet away from him.

“Yeah, what?”

“Why did you change? Is it because I left? You have to believe me when I say-”

“I HAVE to believe you? I don’t have to do anything.”

“I left because I thought it was the best thing to do.”

“Was it?” Ella felt the knot forming in her throat and her breathing hasten.

“N-no,” she whispers. He sits upward and her eyes flash up from the ground to look at him. “But I couldn’t think straight. There were so many things I had going on in my head… I never wanted to leave but I thought it was best.”

“Well it wasn’t so how about you elaborate on where we go from here?”

“What do you mean,” she cries almost pleading. “Where do we go from here? Things stay as they were!”

“Back to normal,” Sai snorts. “Things can’t go back to normal. I don’t trust you like I use to.” Ella tries to swallow but the knot had grown too big in her throat. She couldn’t breathe. Everything was spinning.

“Please don’t… I can’t take much more… Don’t say it…”

“Say what?”

“That we should…”

“That we should let ourselves be free? Maybe you can finally be out in the open with Psyche and I can go after Shaneko. I had been traveling with her in your absence and she isn’t so bad. I’d fool her into falling for me and leaving the team she’s with. Things will be great.”

“No,” screams Ella. She stammers to her feet and runs over to Sai. She falls down to her knees and grabs up his collar in her small fists. “Sai don’t… don’t do this! I’m sorry! Is that what you want me to say? That I messed up? That I’m a terrible person? That I should have told you in the beginning and talked about the whole thing? I can’t take that all back! I would if I could…” She couldn’t find air. She drew it in but couldn’t feel it. She couldn’t feel the air filtering into her lunges. It was like the air was blowing through her and it didn’t quench her thirst for it. Her head felt like it was going to implode. Was he serious? Did he want to end their relationship just like that? “Give me another chance! Why are you being this way,” she cries shaking him. He tries to pry her from him which, oddly, was easy. He pushes her away gently but she flings herself at him again. He wondered if he could do this. She didn’t want him before but now that he was shoving her away she wanted him. Was this working? He didn’t like it. Her reactions weren’t the ones he’d imagined.

She couldn’t hold them in. She began to cry as she clung to him. She couldn’t form words and she couldn’t cry out. The air was gone and her head was pounding. Finally he realizes his coaxing had gone too far. “Okay, I quit. See; I was just messing with you. Don’t cry.” She continued on anyway. He falls to his knees and grips her shoulders. “Isn’t this what you want? Didn’t you think I didn’t care enough? I care!” He watches her bury her face in his chest and he begins to shiver. He didn’t want to push her that far. He didn’t want her to cry. She never cried like this. She always called his bluff or acted nonchalant. “I don’t want Shaneko or anyone else but you. I swear! Look at me. Ella, look at me.” She would not look up at him.

“I t-tried.”

“Tried to what?” She begins shaking worse than him which makes him wrap his arms around her. He didn’t understand why she was crying so badly. It wasn’t that bad, what he said was it? He said worse yesterday, right? Was that why Rafael took her away? Had he made her cry yesterday too? He felt horrible. “Ella, come on. Calm down. Please. I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry.”

“I was so tired… I c-couldn’t see…”

“What? Tired? Couldn’t see? What are you talking about?” After a few minutes Ella found that she could breathe again but she continued to cry and shake.

“R-Rafael,” she mutters and Rafael appears a foot away from them.

“What’s wrong with her? Why is she crying so badly?”

“Get away from her.”

“Rafael… why is she crying like this? What I said wasn’t that bad, was it?”

“So you did do that to her yesterday.”

“She cried yesterday too… I never would have thought she would take it this badly?”

“Maybe next time you’ll think about not doing moronic things. Get the hell away from her.” Sai couldn’t believe Rafael was that angry. Rafael was usually quieter and wouldn’t say such things like he was saying. Yes he would voice his opinion but he never showed his emotions. He showed pure anger as he stared at Sai just like yesterday. Sai begins to release Ella but she holds onto him. Rafael did not draw near. “Do you wish to know why she left?” Ella tugs on Sai who falls back to his knees. Rafael looks at Ella as his face loses all emotion. She clings to Sai who rubs her back and places his head in her hair. “She left because she found out that she was carrying your child.” Sai jolts and pulls away from Ella to look at her. She was still crying and shaking which worried Sai. He raises her head to look at her but she turns her head away. He examines her body as a calculator appears in his mind. He calculated the time away and the last time he and Ella had spent time away from the others and was amazed. Surely Ella would have started showing by now. He was confused. Ella grips him tighter and shakes her head and then pulls him close to her. He holds her as he had before and stares at Rafael. “She is no longer.” Sai pulls her closer to him as he remembers what she had said and what he’d said. He wished he could tear himself away from her and go out and get someone to torture him day and night until she truly forgave him for being such a fool. “The people that had been trying to come after Ella, as Majora had warned us, came. I was not there but Tybalt, Elizabeth, Psyche, and Kex were.” How could those four be unable to take Ella’s attackers on? Where were the others? Where was Rafael? He could answer to Ella’s every beg and call now; why not then? Ella was slowly calming down as she began coming closer to losing consciousness. Rafael ceases talking and simply looks at Sai and then at Ella. Sai nods mechanically and then pushes Ella away from him gently. She grips his arms and he shakes his head.

“I won’t leave you.” She relaxes her hand and watches him shaking now and then as her crying becomes streams of tears. Sai takes one hand, looking at Ella to be sure she would be okay with it, and then presses it gently to her stomach. Images flick across his eyes as he sees what happened while he had been away from her. The first memory he saw was one that Psyche provided Ella.

”I suppose you’re right about that. However, I don’t see how it’s possible. How exactly can people be unable to make weapons closely related to the Chakra Rifles and then distribute them?” Elizabeth shifts her folded legs on the floor as Kex stares at her. He seemed to await her next inquiry before issuing one of his own. They were somewhere in the forest of Hidden Alchemy. The only ones around were Kex, Elizabeth, Pixie, Sonnet, and Psyche. “I wonder… can we reproduce?”

“Reproduce? I would think it possible if you looked at Sai and Ella.”

“If I look at them how? You saying Ella is in the process of reproduction?”

“No… I was simply saying that they perform the act that leads to reproduction. Why have the wanting to do it if you don’t need to?”

“Well, Ella is different from us as well as Sai. What they can do, in my opinion, can’t be compared with what we can do. On that note, do you think that can happen with Ella and Sai? And if so, can it happen with Tybalt and Nimen?” Tes motions into the clearing with the tame creature close by her side at the mention of Tybalt.

“What’s this talk about having children? What does it matter?”

“Aw, Tes, don’t ruin it. I’m just curious. Haven’t you ever wondered? What would the kid turn out to be? What would a cross between a Dante and Ichazuki be?”

“Come now, Elizabeth. That’s a silly question. Sai is a cross between a Dante and a Ichazuki. If they had a child it would simply come out like Sai.” Elizabeth wiggles her nose around in thought as Kex fumbles with an unlit cigarette in his fingers. Sonnet was listening contently while Pixie found herself fondling in Sonnet’s new hair. He looked very nice with his numerous colors in his hair. He found himself altering his appearance some time ago. Psyche was listening while running possibilities through his mind. “Now, let’s try and figure out that cross between Nimen and Tybalt. A Greek, plus a Zoto, PLUS a homunculi.”

“I would think it would come out as something like a Howard and Greek hybrid,” comments Kex finally.

“Not only that but the cross would have weapon wielding, alternate form operating, chakra mastering, and not to mention psychic abilities. That would truly be an interesting combination. If only we could test it with those two.” Tes grimaces at Elizabeth and begins commenting as Psyche slips away.

Elizabeth had presented an interesting question that day and Psyche found himself pondering over it. Soon he found his curiosity to be too high and began to ask the question to Ella upon reaching a paved road. He saw Ella but when she turned to look at him he emptied his head of all thoughts. Seeing her made him skeptical about asking. It was a personal question, Elizabeth’s questions had few borderlines, and asking it to her might have been a bad idea. “Hello Ella. I was wondering what was on the agenda today?”

“I haven’t figured out something for us to do today. I’m thinking about us having some time off. We’ve been training and running around a lot. I should be around for a while to spend some quality time with each of you as well,” replies Ella as a figure flickers towards her. Psyche nods as Ella laughs at him then turns to walk off. The tiny girl is then crashed into by a red eyed, silver haired boy. Sai laughs and flings himself away from Ella who was cradled delicately in Psyche’s arms. Soon after he caught her he loosened his group so that he was barely touching her. On the outside he was laughing with Sai but on the inside he was utterly surprised. All he wanted to do was see if Ella’s body could sustain another life form and then he was going to see if Sai could aid in the creation process. But what he found out from Ella's body was something he never would have figured. I mean, he wondered if it was possible but never in his life would he have thought it WOULD happen whether it could or not. Ella flashes out of his grasp to glare at Sai who runs off. Once she ran after him Psyche strolls away.

Once he was alone he let out his surprise. He couldn’t believe it. And he couldn’t believe how Sai didn’t know. Maybe it was because Sai didn’t suspect anything seeing as he had open access to her mind. Maybe he tried but she wouldn’t let him out of playfulness. Psyche pondered over it more and more. Ella was around more often and didn’t seem to venture away from the homunculi. She trained each of them trying to solve a question she herself had. Maybe she was too busy to leave them all alone as she did periodically. She had been pretty absorbed with Than this year. Psyche couldn’t shake the thought. He wanted to believe he fabricated what he’d learned but he hadn’t. He used the special clan move that provided information he couldn’t ask himself. Not once had it been false. He figured he’d make the necessary precautions.

When Ella learned of the upcoming Jounin exams he tried to sway her from leaving. She was intent upon becoming Fuhrer even though it would mean taking down Than, her friend, and he couldn’t find anything to change her mind. He wanted to inform Sai of what he’d learned but Sai never left her side and when he did he would disappear from Psyche’s radar. Sai was good at hiding and at finding people which made him even better at cloaking his movements. He would be back at Ella’s side before Psyche could even discover where he’d run off to. Psyche couldn’t follow after Ella and Sai or else they’d grow suspicious and he’d be forced to reveal the information to them both. He needed a time where Ella wasn’t there and where Sai could be found and tell him. He had yet to find such a moment.

Offline Training - Hidden Alchemy: Ella and her various homunculus
“So, what was it, Psyche? And why couldn’t you talk about it around Sai… or close to the area where Sai is? You’re not planning on making a confession are you?”

“N-no.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Ella… there is something you should know… This may be the opportunity I get.”

“I’m Sai’s mate,” she replies bluntly with a scowl as Psyche smiles at her. She then becomes confused as he begins speaking again.

“It’s not about me liking you or anything. It’s… um… I have a reason for you to drop out of the exams… I have a reason why you should go back into hiding.”

“Oh I have to hear this! And why couldn’t Sai hear it? You thought he would laugh too hard?”

“Ella… you… I… You and Sai are…”

“Wait…” Psyche stares at Ella who raises her head to the sky. She sniffs the air a few times before taking in one long breath. She exhales shakily as she lowers her head. Her eyes were closed a moment before they open abruptly. “That smells heavenly.” Psyche looks at Ella to see piercing red eyes. He jolts before Ella disappears from his few. A tiny girl had fallen and scraped her knee running through the forest. Children laughed and continued running as she lay there sobbing. Ella appears behind the girl and she jumps. She turns around to see no one there.

“What the hell are you doing?”

“As spicy as ever, Tes. A little human blood never hurt anyone.”

“Yes of course… Oh wait! Yes it does.”

Ella laughs as Tes pins her to the ground by her arms. “You can’t stop me.” Ella begins to turn to mist when she suddenly sees herself smiling down on her. ”Beautiful… worth it all.” She lies staring upwards as Psyche appears beside Ella.

“Ella listen to me.” She turns her gaze to Psyche and begins turning into mist again. “If you should continue fighting in your state you could… um…”

Tes releases Ella and elbows Psyche. “Aw stop beating around the f******g bush! Ella have you been paying attention at all? Haven’t you noticed your changes? You’re not alone in that body so cut it out!”

Ella freezes reverting back to her solid form. She bolts upward and stares at Tes with stern eyes. “Not alone? What do you mean? How can’t I be alone? Sai? Sai is in my head sometimes… you’re talking about him? What should it matter if I fight? What are you saying?”

“Stop denying it! Look at yourself! Remember how much you’ve changed in such a small amount of time! Listen to what I say… You are not alone in there! You are sharing that body with someone else… stop being stupid… Drop out of the exams, Ella…”

“No… n-no… NO,” yells Ella flickering out of sight.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ella sits knelt upon the ground in a new form staring at Tes. “I don’t want this… I want to become Fuhrer… this is a distraction.”
“You think of your child as a distraction?”
“Tes…” Ella’s features crumble; her gorgeous off white skin and hazel eyes; her long flowing bronze hair. She wraps her arms around herself and lowers her head. “I’m not up to the challenge… I’m not ready to quit… for a…” Ella found it hard to form the words. She was nothing like Reina. She didn’t feel she could ever feel as greatly about her own child as Reina did for Akou. She couldn’t even imagine it now that it was already happening. “So I give up on my hopes of becoming Fuhrer? I give up in the exams before they start? No… I won’t. I’ll fight anyway.”
“Ella…”
“I can fight and not cause myself harm… we’ll be fine. I can still fight.”
“Damn it! Ella-” Tes stops looking at Ella who raised her head. She had a faint smile on her face.
“This is what I want… I have wanted this ever since the last Fuhrer killed me. In revenge I would take control over Hidden Alchemy. It will be mines to do as I wish with. I will have what he lost so soon after killing me and creating a puppet out of me… I will be happy; just me and Sai ruling over that village. Then, after Alchemy, onwards to other villages; Hidden Leaf and Sand for sure. I can probably squeeze in the entire Federation in compensation for all the bad memories from that place.” Ella smiles as tears stream down her face. “No room for a child… no room for a tiny infant of Dante blood and who the hell knows what else… no room for unknowns. A child doomed to an existence like my own… maybe even worse. And… it would not be loved... maybe by Sai but not by me. It would be unwanted. This child,” Ella grips her sides tighter as she lowers her head. “Is a burden…”
“I will fight with you.” Ella looks at Tes. “I do not approve of this but I cannot watch you torture yourself nor harm yourself and the child. I will fight with you to realize your dream. In return you must do me a favor.” Tes looks away from Ella who blinks her eyes dry. “You must protect that child. Once it is born your debt to me is finished.”
“Why is this so important to you?”
Tes smiles and turns to Ella. “Would you like me to send someone to seek out Reina? I’m sure Psyche could find her.”
“Why find Reina?”
“For help with this.”
“My best friend knows nothing about this. She just found Akou and raised him from there.”
“She could help you in obtaining a maternal instinct.” Ella laughs before standing. Tes watches her a moment before motioning over to her.
“Do not tell Sai yet. I will tell him myself when the time is right.” Tes nods and Ella sighs before flickering away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It had been a few weeks since Ella quit the exams and left for hiding. She wanted to become Fuhrer but realized Momiji had ranked up too. She couldn’t try fighting him or she would risk putting herself and the child in harms way. Not only that but the darn earring she had to wear was keeping her from doing much of anything. Ella lays asleep in a small cottage as homunculi dart around. Graze, Elizabeth, Kex, Rosalia, Pixie, Tybalt, Tes, Kill Joy, Anthro, Kai, Psyche, Rafael, and even Angelle were among those that came with Ella, however, some had traveled elsewhere. Graze was busy with Kill Joy hunting down game in various other villages; Pixie was with Rafael out scouting in other villages for any signs of battle that might require them to leave the village; Anthro, Tes, and Kai were out to gather certain supplies required for their travels and stays in each village; Rosalia and Angelle were off on a mission focused on Naomi who had somehow been tracking them the entire time; the others were around the village scoping in case someone came to the village or something happened to it. If anyone would arrive at the docks they would know thanks to Psyche surveying the docks with his special Ichazuki abilities and would be ready to defend Ella should they be a threat to her. The cottage was deep in the forest, away from much of the village, and had plenty of water around which aided in hiding certain scents. A helpful thing for traps and whatnot.

Psyche continues touching various plants and things to get what was needed of them but just when a tree would reveal the true Akai's location he spotted him himself. He releases the tree and dashes towards the descending ninja. None of them knew whether or not Drago and his team were a threat to Ella's life or just passerbies but they wouldn't take the chance. Within seconds Tybalt was standing yards from the path leading up to the cottage. He would block the path of the clones and stare at them without revealing any emotion. He was as expressionless as a rock. Tybalt wasn't usually this way but certain times call for certain ways of acting. "Why have you come here? What is it that you want?" Elizabeth and Kex appear on either side of Tybalt as Psyche darts behind the group then flickers over to stand with the other homunculi. Even to the clones eyes a number of the homunculi didn't move very fast. Tybalt was the one that moved the fastest. So much so that he wasn't even seen approaching the path. Tybalt was the most dangerous. A homunculi with the spirit of a Greek. Not just any Greek either, Akou's soul fragment. Elizabeth had the soul fragment of Tebayai Seizon of the Kaguya clan. She had mastered many taijutsu and was fluent in the arts of her clan. Then there was Kex, of whom had the immunity to poisons. He was the weakest of them all. Psyche was weaker than Elizabeth and Tybalt but not the weakest. He was of the Ichazuki clan and held an older fragment of Akou's spirit. He was mostly the information gatherer. Psyche and Kex would surely be set aside while Tybalt and Elizabeth fought. If necessary, they would be the ones to take Ella and escape.

Elizabeth, being the militant tom boy she is leaps into the air and kicks both Kex and Psyche to the side. Tybalt, on the other hand, dodged her strike to counter a blade strike from the male known as Akai only for Elizabeth to land atop of Tsuki delicately then propel off of her and land in front of Tybalt. She would thrust a hand outward in order to strike Akai in the chest. Her bone defense versus his bone defense would prove to be some match. Tybalt, feeling left out and stuck watching over Kex and Psyche would watch as Drago would strike for Psyche only for Tybalt to attempt to tackle him out of the way. The other member who they didn't exactly know the name of lunged too but was tripped when Kex flew from his location into the ground. Elizabeth had kicked him a little too hard. He groans before flashing to his feet. Now Elizabeth and Psyche were nearest one another and Tybalt and Kex were nearest one another. Tybalt and Drago, Elizabeth and Akai, Kex and the unknown other Kaguya, and Psyche and Tsuki. Not the best match up but that's how it went.

Ella frowns in her sleep a bit before slowly opening her eyes. It was growing dark out by the time she awoke. She was still a bit tired and things were really blurry. She sits up and rubs her eyes before yawning and stretching. She felt like crap. She was pissed she felt like crap. Usually she felt like a million bucks. The thought of strangling Sai made her a bit happier. It was all his fault after all. Or that's how she made it seem. Speaking of Sai, where was he? Why would Ella be traveling around without him? Was he out gather things for her? Was he taking care of some loose ends somewhere? Nope. Ell had left him behind. She couldn't find the courage to tell him, "Hey! You're going to be the father of some THING." What would the kid be anyway? Ella could shape shift into many things so what would the kid be? Some blue substance like Hedoro who Reina fought years ago? Some powerful Dante like Than and Ella? Some Godly creature like Sai? Would it be psychic? Would it be able to do what both Ella and Sai could? What was it? But Ella wasn't thinking about that now. She was thinking how annoyed she was with the single crash she heard down the path. She rustles her hair a bit before yawning and rubbing her eyes again.

Being in her human form was a drag. She felt helpless and weak. She soon hears a startling noise and flashes to her feet with great speed. She looked at the wrong thing and would soon find it a costly mistake. She would begin looking from the window only for a sharp pain to emit from her stomach. She winces and reaches down to find some sort of weapon pressed against her stomach. She thought it was pressed but her wound was far worse than that. The bone stuck out of her back but had luckily missed her spine. For the time being she was alive. She tried to transform into mist but it didn't work. She tried taking the form of water but that didn't work. Not even taking the form of sand worked. Something was blocking her use of those moves. She was rendered helpless by the same earring that was meant to protect her. She tried regenerating her wound but not even that worked. Was she done for? Would her homunculi get to her in time? Right, they didn't know. Was this a dream? The only thing Ella could manage was thinking... Oh! Thinking. "I've been... stabbed," was all she could think to say. What could she say? Save me? She wouldn't say that. Someone's trying to kill me! She was already dying from the wound and it looked like a ghost had done it. Then her eyes focus to see the figure before her faintly. "Team... Drago..." she thought to herself before her vision begins fading again. She coughs, blood spurting from her mouth as she realizes what all was happening. She had failed. The child. She grabs at the blade weakly only for it have no effect. Once it was gone she would fall to her knees. Trees rustle and the sound of tapping feet could be heard all around except from the area where the window was. Blood flows from Ella to the ground as she grabs at herself to try and slow the bleeding. No such luck. She knew if she tried performing blood regeneration then she wouldn't if she could use her Orochi. Would she die? Once the window shatters a figure comes between her and the flying glass, taking the blows from the shards. Ella couldn't see them, her eyesight was really bad now. She could only see different shades of gray. Her breathing was slowly and her arms were slowly sliding to her sides.

"Ella! We came back! I saw what would happen and returned as fast as I could! Rafael too! Ella!" She didn't know who was yelling at her. All she knew was they were talking as the room grows darker. She feels a pain in her ear that held the earring as she falls forward and lays motionless on the floor.

"Come on Rafael. We have to get her out of here." Rafael nods as Angelle appears beside Ella. She lifts her into her arms as Rafael falls to his knees. He took the strikes of the glass but he was fine for the time being. He would disappear too as the wind would sweep through the room. The scent of Ella's blood in the wind was unmistakable to any homunculi in the village. They would smell it and know of their failure. They were, after all, very fond of blood.

The homunculi watched as their opponents would create distance between them and then begin attacking again. Psyche pushed himself away from Tsuki as she launched her wind attacks to keep him away. Then he would spring forward and attack with his fist much like some of the fighters present. Tybalt would dodge a number of Drago's blows if not blocking his blows. Tybalt figured Drago was toying with him and was a bit angry. His eyes surged a deep crimson as he fought. Kex found it hard dodging his opponent and had to convert to his Diamond Defense form. Elizabeth found her match to be to her liking. She would try her hand at dodging her opponent or she would counter with a bone strike of her one. Now and then she got wounded but that didn't bother her. She felt worse pain. Then, masking the scent of Elizabeth's small amount of blood, flows the scent of Ella's. At first the homunculi smelt it and their eyes grew deeper red then their eyes flashed back to their natural colors. Ella was bleeding? Why? Then they heard her voice. Each was too busy to tear themselves away from their fight but eventually did. They narrowly evade their opponents’ strikes and escape and head over to the cottage. Psyche was a way worse information gatherer than Sai. As soon as he saw Ella wasn't there he started to search for her instead of try and figure out what happened. Without a doubt the evidence would be exposed of to prevent someone from finding out what all happened. Yet he continued to search for Ella with the other homunculi. Soon the village was empty of homunculi. Was Ella dead or was she alive?

Offline Training - Hidden Alchemy: Ella and her various homunculus
Sai snatches away his hand and pressed it to the ground. Like Ella couldn’t breathe before he couldn’t either. He didn’t know how to feel about any of it. Ella was barely conscious now. “I should have gone with you. I should never have covered your tracks like I had. I could have protected you… both of you,” he cries lowly. He didn’t want to startle her. Rafael had long disappeared now and they were alone. Sai didn’t know when his brother had slipped away but he knew he was no longer there. “I’m so sorry… had I known… I was so cruel.”

“I tried…”

“I know you did, Ella,” Sai croons as he kisses her head. Within a few seconds she was out cold. Sai wanted to release her and lay her down but feared if she awoke to find him gone she’d go into a fit again. He’d have to stay with her. But every time he remembers what happened to her and how he’d treated her he winces in pain.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Despite her shifting in his arms now and then she remained asleep. He carried her around, wriggling a hand free to touch this or that, before he finally found the area where the others seemed to be. As soon as he walked into the clearing Ella is snatched from his arms. He growls lowly then notices Tes had her cradled in her arms yards away from him. He relaxes his face and gazes away from her. Tes figured he was told though she didn’t know exactly how he was told. Ella shifts uneasily in her arms which Sai notices out of the corner of his eye. “You guys don’t have to try and protect her from me anymore… I know now…”
“I know you know. Did you run into Naomi sometime in your travels around with Shaneko?”
“So you know.”
“I always knew what you were up to. I tracked you. In the beginning it was hard to find you. I found you the first time when you were covering Ella’s tracks in Hidden Sand. I found you a few more times after that and then I found you in Hidden Snow. I was too late, however. Naomi and Akou were already running off with you atop of a Giant Ram. Then, with Shaneko traveling with you, it was easy to find your trail. I tracked you up until I had to go out and gather some supplies for our stay in Hidden Leaf. After that… well, you know. So I stopped. So… what have you and Naomi been talking about? Has she informed you of how exactly she plans to help us get revenge?”
“Naomi isn’t to be trusted. It would not be wise to have Naomi aid in getting revenge.” Tes snorts and walks over to a leafy bed and sets Ella down on it gently. “I didn’t really talk to Naomi. I mainly yelled at her and ran her off. Last time though… Naomi got to Shaneko.”
“So Shaneko is in league with Naomi now?”
“More so in league with Akou.”
“Has Shaneko defended Naomi yet?”
“Somewhat.”
“This doesn’t seem to be a good thing but Angelle and Rafael do not seem to care. They saw much of this coming. I wonder what they are planning. I wonder what paths lead to what in the future? Do you remember?”
“Remember?”
“What you said to Reina way back when? In Hidden Time you informed her of the doom to come. Is this leading to Naomi’s goal? Was this all planned or did it just happen but prove to her advantage? What would happen to us if we sided with her?”
“I will not side with her.”
“You, unlike the rest of us, will have no choice.” Sai falls silent and Tes begins pacing. “What about Akou? I thought you said he was the key?”
“What do you mean by that?”
“He’s not an Ichazuki anymore.”
“Oh. I don’t know. Things have gone in the wrong direction. I shouldn’t be here. I never really thought too much on the future battle but I realize that…” Sai stops midsentence and stares blankly before him. Tes furrows her eyebrows as Sai’s eyes flash up to her. “I shouldn’t be here. As soon as Ella is feeling better I have to be destroyed.” Tes takes in air sharply and then Ella flings upright. Tes and Sai jump in fear and surprise when Ella turns her head to look at Sai.
“What?”
“E-Ella… What I mean is… Should Naomi take control of me… I could destroy you all. I know what she’s planning. I have to take another form.”
“But I’m comfortable with the you I have now.”
“No. We have to think about what’s best. I can’t be an Ichazuki. What if Naomi decides to take control of me?”
“Then I’ll use the move I’ve been working on.”
“We can’t rely on jutsu, Ella.”
“It’s alchemy.”
“No,” Sai states a little louder. He looks at Ella to see if she might crack but she seemed fine. She just had that worried face which pained Sai. “I have to take another form. If I don’t then I could be manipulated and you could be…” He didn’t finish.
“This whole d**n conversation is pointless,” interrupts Tes. Sai frowns and Tes shakes her head from side to side slowly. “Sai, you won’t return unless it’s a body Naomi or Adam prefer.”
“What?” cry Sai and Ella at the same time.
“You remember what happened with Rafael? I figured it out. That look of plotting Adam had, what Reina told us about her being recreated that time, my own experience with death; they all helped in me figuring out that when it comes to resurrection we are transported to Edom.”
“Wait, make that more understandable.”
“In the Afterlife there are two lands; the Garden of Eden and Edom. Eve, who is sealed within Reina, resides in the Garden of Eden. Naomi resides in Edom with Adam. You can easily tell the bad side of the Afterlife and the good side at this point. The huge white building that Reina mentioned housed Naomi, her sons, Adam, and their followers. They give off the feel of a heavenly place with all the gold and white but once you reach a certain room everything changes. That is Adams hall. There is where he resurrects people. This was all planned from the beginning. They were just waiting for us to fall in place.”
“I never saw this place,” comments Ella which makes Tes smile.
“All the better to prove my theory.”
“What theory,” question Sai and Ella together.
“It’s hard to explain to the two of you. Maybe I should just let Sai do that information gathering thing.” Tes places a hand under her chin and then looks at Sai. “If only the child would have survived… then perhaps we’d have had an alternative,” she mutters.
“What was that? What are you plotting? Spit it out Tes!” Tes shifts her gaze over to Ella.
“It’s very hard to explain. Okay… Here’s what I think. All those who die venture to the Afterlife unless their soul is restless; like Tybalt’s was. There were different types of resurrection, however. When Nimen and Shaneko died they were already in the form wished. They simply had to be returned to the land of the living. So they did not need to go to Edom which is the giant white building I mentioned. Tebayai, who was the needed spirit for Angelle, was left in the Afterlife in hopes that she would either be stuck there or resurrected so that Rafael could do as Adam and Naomi ordered; destroy Angelle, or so Angelle stated t me once. Those were the only weird cases in the Afterlife. Anyone else would be sent to Adam to be reincarnated or sent to Eve to be reborn again. From the start everything was manipulated. Reina’s being a magician and meeting Akou the Ichazuki. They had a bond since creation which Naomi would use as manipulation. Her first body that was powerful enough to release her and give her control from time to time and the strongest ninja she had possessed would prove very useful. Thing is, I don’t know why Akou was made an infant. I’d need to get the information out of him. Maybe then I’ll have a better idea on if things are moving in the right direction or not. Seeing as Rafael and Angelle aren’t worried I would think things are fine. But who’s to know when it comes to those two. But back to my theory: Sai was created from the spirit of the Ichazuki Akou for some reason. I know Naomi wanted to harness the Ichazuki’s abilities but maybe things didn’t turn out like they were supposed to and you were created. I don’t know the whole reason behind what Naomi did but oh well-”
“I think it was to separate him from the Negation Orochi.” Everyone turns their head to the east to see Elizabeth perched high in a tree. “Perhaps Naomi simply wanted to free Sai.” Sai snorts in a disgusted way. “She did it for herself, sort of, didn’t she? She is now no longer connected to the Negation Orochi. So it isn’t impossible that she’d do the same for her son.”
“I am nothing more than a pawn or a pet to her.” The females sigh at him as he growls under his breath. Ella was on the leaf bed and then she was gone. Sai hunches forward and slips down into a crouch when he feels arms wrap around him. The others were worried he might not know it was Ella from the way he crouched and snarled but he soon fell quiet to reassure them. Ella pulls him close to her and then she flickers out in front of him. She looks at him a moment before sighing happily.
“I missed you, Sai. You wouldn’t believe how much.” She smiles at him a moment before her smile falls. “I want to see how Naomi can help me in getting revenge. I don’t care about how this might affect anything or how it could be useless in the end. I want to try.”
“But I can do whatever she can to help you.”
“Maybe so…”
“Maybe so nothing, Ella.”
“Naomi has connections where we don’t. Not only that but she has Akou.”
“Reina and Shaneko too, Tes.” Everyone’s eyes bulge out hearing Sai’s inclusion.
“Then we HAVE to go and meet with Naomi in the least. Where was she last?” Sai looks at Tes and then turns his head from her to stare at a fallen tree that Elizabeth had, at some point, perched herself on.
“It’s a mistake to do so and I know it.” Ella looks at him and awaits his final answer. “Fine, but I am going with you. I’m not being left behind aga-” Before he could finish Ella had flung her self up onto her tip toes to kiss him. The electrical sparks they felt was wondrous. Ella could barely keep her resolve and not take him right there. Sai, on the other hand, couldn’t help himself. He would coax her on. He would place one hand at the back of her head and another would grip at her waist. Ella knew it best to draw away but couldn’t find the strength. Sai held her gently but something strong was keeping her from pulling away. As soon as Ella reaches a hand up to grip at Sai’s hair he releases her. Startled she releases him and he inches away from her. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gotten carried away.”
“Don’t just stop. We have to keep going. There are so many things I want to…”
“Do,” questions Elizabeth ruining the moment. Ella blushes and turns away from them all. “Wouldn’t it be best if you both found another way of communicating? At least until things are dealt with and safety is ensured.” Ella looks down at her feet and then turns to look at Elizabeth.
“But it’s been so long. I don’t think I can resist.”
“Me either.” Sai thinks on his words and shrugs. “But I will try. I don’t want anything like what happened happening again.”
“So who all is heading out, Ella?” Elizabeth was set on joining them but she knew that she wouldn’t be the one coming. Ella could tell and grimaces at her question.
“I was thinking just Sai and me.”
“Hell no. I’m going too.”
“Tes, stop being a potty mouth. I need you to watch the others.”
“Angelle, Rafael, or even Tybalt can take care of that task better than me. Give me another excuse.”
“This doesn’t concern you.”
“Ne? You do still owe me, Ella.” Ella grimaces as Tes strolls over to her. She places a hand on Ella’s head and rustles her hair. “I won’t do anything stupid or get in the way. I’ll be a good girl.” Sai snorts and Tes stands upright. Tes merely glances over at Sai before laughing and walking towards the direction of the docks.
“What do you owe her?” Ella turns to look at Sai and then begins walking over to his side.
“A lot of things. I’d prefer you talked to her to find out those things. You two should try and get to know one another a little better. Maybe then you’ll be nicer to one another.” With that Ella reaches out a hand and grasps Sai’s wrist. “We’ll be back in no more than a week. Please inform the others.” Elizabeth nods and then disappears as do Sai and Ella.
Lloyd Howard of Hidden Alchemy
Stepping off of the docks, Lloyd paused as the scent of sulfur as well as a plethora of other chemicals reached his nose. He had to admit, it was rather different from the other villages - particularly in the idea that this village focused more on science rather than actual ninjutsu. Nonetheless, there was a reason why he had chosen this place as his next training ground. Alchemy, he had heard from some random passerby, as complex and gruesome as it was...Was an extremely useful set of techniques. Thus, the alchemy-nin was fully intent on learning everything he could on these seemingly 'unique and wonderful' set of techniques.
Walking along the sidewalks, Lloyd paused as somewhere to his side, there was a flash of light and what had recently been a pile of rubble, became a rather exquisite statue. In an instant, the boy's interest was peaked as he took a step towards the statue. "You there!" He called, making sure his voice wasn’t too loud, lest he frighten the poor man.
A blonde-haired figure poked his head out from behind the statue, a rather curious expression on his face. "...Hm?"
"That thing you did," Lloyd started, one finger pointing at the statue. "To transform this; do you think you can teach it to me?" He asked, his tone rather hopeful as he stared at the man. Yet he paused for a moment before sighing. "Forgive my lack of manners. My name is Howard Lloyd, a shinobi from the Alchemy Village. Who might you be?" He asked as he extended one hand in an attempt to shake the alchemist's in greeting, however, at this point, Howard had paused for a moment to brush several stray specks of dust from his statue.
"Howard. Ed Howard, but you can just call me Ed for now I suppose," The man mused as he stepped out from behind the sculpture, a grin on his face. "So, you want to learn alchemy, eh? Just wait here for a moment then," He said, turning and disappearing into his house before coming back with a red, hard-covered book. After opening it to a page with a diagram, he held it out to Lloyd.
"Step one: Draw that circle," He said, moving one hand over the book to point at the figure that was drawn on one of the pages. "It'll be crucial for when we move on to the further steps."
Taking the book, Lloyd raised a brow as he examined the drawing. "...I just need to draw this?" He inquired, looking over to Ed only to see the man handing him a stick of chalk. That in it's own, was the answer. Nodding, then, Lloyd kneeled down, doing his best to copy the drawing before looking up at Ed once he was finished. "What is this supposed to do for Alchemy?"
Ed took a deep breath as he coughed into his fist. "Someone once explained it as: The basic strength of a transmutation circle is the nature of the shape itself. The circle represents the circulation of power. By drawing it, that power can be evoked. By understanding this circulation of power and the laws that govern it, you can harness it for yourself. And one who works within this system of flow to create new things, that is the true alchemist....Or something along those lines," The man mumbled as he looked down at Lloyd.
"Finished?" He asked after several passing minutes as he leaned over, his eyes glancing at Lloyd for a moment before quickly moving to the circle as he caught a glimpse at the work that Lloyd didn’t have blocked out by his body.
"Give me a moment..." The alchemy-nin grunted in response as he made several adjustments to his circle, then worked on the inner shape as well before eventually standing up straight once more. "There," He said finally as he dusted himself off. "How's that?"
"Let's see," Ed answered as he compared the drawing on the ground to the one that was etched into the page of his book. Eventually, a satisfied grin appeared on his face as he gave Lloyd a brief nod. "It shall suffice for now, now let us just move on to the next step.
"Now, let us use our skills of observation!" Ed said in a rather loud tone as he pointed at the circle he had used to transmute the statue, then the one that Lloyd had just drawn. "Just by staring at yours and mine...What differences do you see between the two circles?" He asked, his head turning to face Lloyd as the alchemy-Nin examined each respective circle for several moments. Though in essence, they were similar, there was one thing Ed's had that Lloyd's utterly lacked.
"Yours has all this added stuff on it," Lloyd said as he tilted his head. "Like..How mine is just a circle, yours has all these little designs and symbols on it," He explained, looking over at Ed who gave a nod of approval.
"Precisely! While a good circle is important, it's just not very effective alone. It's like...Drawing! Say you want to draw a dog, and you draw the dog. Yet by itself, the dog is just a figure on a piece of paper, thus you give it a background and all these other things that compliment your sketch of the dog. In alchemy, the 'background and all those things' are the Symbols," He started, opening the book to another page. "Allow you to add a more diverse level to your alchemy. Some are mere shapes while other symbols can be these complex figures that may simply boggle your mind. Each shape though, has it's own distinct meaning and purpose. For example...Say you'll be transmuting earth, so you'll add in a symbol into your circle that represents earth! If I remember correctly, the drawing for that was a triangle. Or was that for air...? Ah well, moving on!" He said loudly before moving his face back behind the book so that it was partially hidden from the shinobi's sight as he flipped through the pages.
The next several moments were rather wordless, though the fact that Ed was noisily turning pages made things far from silent. "Here's a list," He said eventually, handing Lloyd the book again. "Now try spicing up your circle a bit with whatever you see fit...Just use your head and try not to put any conflicting symbols together. That could be extremely hazardous, as no one really likes a bad chemical reaction, and that can happen all to often with an inexperienced alchemist."
Blinking slightly, the nin nodded as he took the book back then faced his circle once more, drawing things here and there. After several moments, he was complete as he stood up, comparing it to the Howard's. It wasn’t exactly perfect, but it looked like it would be able to get the job done. The shinobi took a step back to allow Ed to examine the circle.
"Not bad...A little messy and overdone...But not bad. There are also times though, when a simple circle would prove to be better than something more complex, not to mention that you probably wont have time to draw all these little things - especially on the battlefield. But, let us make a recap on this. What have you learned so far, Lloyd?"
"One of the most important steps to transmutation is creating a good circle, and while that circle is the centerpiece of the act, it is the symbols and added marks that give it it's true power," Lloyd recited slowly as he looked towards Ed, who raised a hand then set it on the shinobi's head in a rather childish manner. Lloyd then forced himself to suppress the need to frown.
"Correct. Not bad for a youngster...Most kids probably take forever just to master the circle and another couple of years to get the symbols right," Ed Howard said with a rather amused laugh. "I suppose the shinobi of the ninja villages are rather gifted individuals after all...However, I shouldn’t be wasting time flattering you lot. We still have a bit more to learn."
"Now that you've got those things down, it's time for you to learn about Alchemy itself," Ed started as he leaned back against his statue. "Some people say that alchemy gives people to make weapons out of nothing, that their very power to make a weapon appear out of the air around them. Do you think this is true, Howard Lloyd."
"Well, yes I me-..." He trailed off as he noticed Ed already beginning to shake his head.
"Wrong!" The blonde shouted as he poked the shinobi's forehead. "Alchemy is not about just making an object appear out of nowhere. When learning alchemy, you must always remember this rule: Equivalent Exchange. Alchemy is not like a jutsu where you can blow out fire or any of that chakra crap. Here, you utilize your very surroundings. You're not making a weapon out of thin air, you're merely reshaping your surroundings and giving them form into something you can use. Say you want to make a sword out of a rock...You're just transmuting the chemical make-up. Adding a fire symbol will probably induce the aspect of smelting and give you iron. In blunt, it's all about considering what something is made of and merely reshaping it...Like, you cant do crap like turn water into earth, but you can exploit it and make mud. Do you get it?" He asked, now hoping that Lloyd was able to cling on to this explanation.
"I think..." Lloyd admitted with a nod as he crossed his arms. "But what was that bit about Equivalent Exchange? I mean, what's that about?" The shinobi knew what the words meant...Yet in the discussion it seemed rather important, particularly since the Howard had labeled it as one of the most 'important rules' of alchemy.
"In order to gain something...Something of equal value must be lost," Ed explained after several moments of silence. "In most cases, you don’t need to worry about it as the transition is already going on...Like I said when you transmute a rock. A rock is lost and in return a sword is created...Stuff like that. While it seems simple, it is extremely important, especially when more...Forbidden, practices are concerned." The last few words that left the alchemist's mouth was considerably quieter than the rest.
Lloyd raised a brow. "Forbidden practices? Such as?" In a science that surpassed the laws of chemistry and such, what could've possibly been 'forbidden'?
"Human transmutation," Ed replied in a rather stern tone. "That, is the forbidden alchemy. To trespass into the realm of God and attempt to revive a fallen individual. That is something that cannot be exchanged, for in no way, shape or form can the human soul be replicated. Not even through alchemy, for it is something with no molecular composition whatsoever. Any attempt to revive the dead would result in pain, usually death is a common factor as well. Yet most importantly, upon failed human transportation, there is often a monster that is created in result. We call those beings homunculi, Lloyd. They are no more than soulless beings in the shape of those we attempted to give life to. If you ever encounter one, I advise you kill it without hesitation, before it kills you. However...Some circumstances make conflict with homunculi rather complicated...But forgive me, I've gotten off track." He said suddenly, looking almost as if he had just snapped out of a daze for a moment.
The alchemy-nin shook his head as he smiled. "Nah, it's alright, that alone was something that needed to be said. I'll keep those words in mind though, Mr. Howard." He soon said in a rather polite tone as he moved his hands over his heart in promise.
Ed Howard grinned then took a deep breath as he looked at Lloyd. "Now I think, we can finally move on to the actual transmutation," He said as he smiled. "This is the part where you show me that you've understood everything that we've discussed so far. Now let's see...What shall I have you transmute...?" He mumbled, looking around before snatching a rock from the ground that was no bigger than his fist. Approaching Lloyd, he smiled and handed it to the shinobi, who took it with a less-than-enthusiastic expression, though this face was quickly replaced by a look of determination.
"Transmute this rock into something," He said bluntly as he moved his foot, effectively smudging Lloyd's circle in the process. Of course, this was intentional. He wished to see if the alchemy-boy had learned anything from this chatter. Soon, he took the book away from Lloyd as well, leaving him with nothing other than chalk and a rock. "Draw me a new circle and such while you're at it as well," he quickly added with a wave of dismissal, thus motioning for the six-armed boy to begin.
Blinking slightly, the boy gave Ed a rather irritated stare for ruining his circle, but Lloyd saw the point in it all. Sighing, he kneeled down, setting the rock on the ground. Around it, he began drawing the circle, adding symbols as he saw fit. Eventually, the alchemy nin paused as he looked over at Ed. "Do I just focus my energy and it happens?" He inquired, his tone, curious. While he had heard rumors that 'it only took a touch' to invoke the power of the transmutation circle, there had to be more than that. Otherwise, there would be more alchemists, right?
"Pretty much...Doesn’t take that much energy," Ed replied as he watched with mild amusement. "So just focus on the shape that you want out of that rock. From there, try to use your energy to make it into that shape. Basically, sculpt it with your mind, and then release all of your energy at once moment to let the process begin...Well...Not all of it, but that burst that you intend to use. Of course, larger things will require more chakra or whatever you want to call that energy. However, I'll recommend you to someone later who can teach you all about those things, so don’t worry about it for now."
Nodding slightly, Lloyd turned back to the rock. He took a deep breath then brought his hands down on the transmutation circle., allowing his chakra to come forth. As he did this, the circle began to glow, crackling with energy. The rock in the center was slowly beginning to morph as well, shifted and changing shape, molding into something completely different in appearance as if invisible hands were reforming it like a mere lump of potting clay.
After a while, the light faded and Lloyd removed his hands from the circle. With a grin, he turned his gaze towards the object that replaced the stone in the center of the circle: a statue - a smaller replica of Ed's to be precise. However, it lacked some general features such as a face, but the ideal shape was there. With a satisfied grin, he picked it up then held it out to Howard. "How's that?"
In response, Ed only clapped his hands together. "It's lacking in some spots, but you've got the basics down. "From here on, there's not much more I can teach you, but there is a clan-mate of mine that would probably be able to help you out. Just wait here for a moment," He said, once again turning away as he scribbled something on a piece of paper before handing it to Lloyd. "Follow those directions to find him...If he asks, tell him Ed sent ya."
"Howard, Howard, Howard...Where is Rox Howard?" The shinobi muttered to himself as he followed the directions along, soon stopping at a rather decent estate. Glancing at the paper again, he grinned. This was the place - or at least the address that Ed had listed. Slowly then, the shinobi moved to knock and a moment later, another individual answered, a brow raising.
"Can I help you?"
"Are you Rox Howard?"
"Yes...May I ask who might you be?" Rox asked, a brow raising as he examined Lloyd.
"Ed sent me...He said you'd be able to teach me more alchemy," Lloyd explained, earning a slight sigh from the man.
"Damn that man, sending me pupils without even informing me first. None the less, I have some free time, so I suppose I cant really say this is a waste," Rox mumbled as he stepped outside. "Since he's sent you to me, I'll assume that you already know the basics, thus, I wont even both brushing up on them. So we'll start with the basics...Transmute something decent for me...Nothing to big or fancy, seeing as you cant do anything on a high weight scale. Make me something."
Lloyd blinked, but didn’t bother to argue or make some sort of retort for the rude comments, but merely leaned forward, drawing another circle. Once the symbols were added, the Alchemy-nin touched the circle, thus transferring his chakra and in a moment, the circle glowed once more as a elongated shape rose up from the ground and Lloyd snatched it, now brandishing what appeared to be a stone lance...However, it was a little on the short end, and in essence was little more than a stone pole with a pointy tip.
Rox's eyes flashed with mild interest before he grinned slightly. "I suppose you possess some skill after all. But can you do more?"
"Do more?" Lloyd replied slowly before shaking his head. "If I could then I wouldn’t have come here," he admitted with a soft chuckle. "So far however, that is the extent of my power," He said slightly as he watched the Howard step up to him, clap his hands and then touch the spear, which instantly crumbled to the alchemical touch.
"Creating something small is simple, but as you continue, you'll realize that it's harder to transmute something as it gets bigger. In any chemical equation, the end result is always affected by the mass. The case is the same with alchemists as well. Even with alchemy, you cant move mountains or stuff like that, and even for a grandmaster, we cant change tons of material in the blink of an eye, unless we either all congregate and work together or some...Added element is involved, but that is not the case here. What I mean to say is, to get the proper form of something down when you're working with a bigger object can be challenging as more material is involved, thus the process of reform may take a bit longer and require more effort as well. You get what I'm saying?" He paused then, a brow raising as he gave Lloyd a questionable look.
With a nod, Lloyd smiled as he leaned down over his transmutation circle once more. "I hear you loud and clear," He said as he touched the side of the drawing and the glow of energy spread, and in an instant, something thick and heavy came out of the ground - a sword, or more precisely, a rather large cleaver, complete with intricate carvings here and there. In essence however, it was nothing flashy. Grinning, Lloyd turned to face Rox.
"Flashy, yes, but just by looking at your weapon I can tell that it is brittle and unrefined. Also, the blade isn’t even sharp, is it?" Rox said as he paced around Lloyd, his eyes on both the apprentice alchemist as well as the "blade" that he held. "Frankly on impact with the nearest object, I believe that it will shatter." He admitted as with another clap of his hands and an added touch, the blade was reduced to mere pebbles, which then fell to Lloyd's feet in a loud clutter. "Do it over."
With a mutter of irritation, the shinobi moved everything back into place and made several adjustments, most notably, the addition of a fire symbol, to his circle as he once again attempted the technique, a new blade rising from the earth. However, this one was different, particularly in the aspect that it now had a metallic sheen to it, proof that the refining process had occurred somewhere during the creation of the blade.
"It's better, I suppose..." He heard Rox admit, though the man's tone didn’t seem very enthusiastic. Acceptant, at best. However, it was obvious he was beginning to acknowledge the shinobi's skill.
"While you do possess much skill, I'm afraid I only have one more level of alchemy to teach you," Rox admitted slowly as he looked towards Lloyd, letting out a soft sigh. "You see, there is just that certain amount that only we, of the Howard Clan have the ability to achieve. Thus, by nature, it is us who exceed and excel in nearly all things alchemy. While we do have limits, it is significantly higher than those of non-Howard individuals. That is where you would be placed, Lloyd," he explained as he crossed his arms. "No offense, but it's just the way of things in this art." Silence filled the air for several moments. Evidently, there was a rather tense gap between the shinobi and the alchemist now.
"Enough of that. Let us go on to the final step. At this point, you are able to transmute something that holds about 80 lbs in mass. We'll stretch that so that you'll be able to affect a greater size, say...Something that possesses about the same mass as a human being," Rox continued on as he closed his eyes, rubbing his forehead for a moment. "...Requires a great amount of concentration, especially if the thing you are transmuting is a human body."
"Excuse me but...Ed said that transmuting a human body is forbidden," Lloyd said softly, once he noticed a suitable gap between the alchemist's words, as to interrupt the man while he was in the middle of a speech would've resulted in a rather vicious glare - or so Lloyd believed.
"It is forbidden to transmute the body of a dead person and attempt to bring them back," Rox clarified as he wagged a finger at Lloyd. "However, affecting the body of a living being has been done, though in most cases it deals with chimerical alchemy which is far out of your league. Also, if you wish, you can stop half-way through the process and destroy rather than create, though I wouldn’t suggest doing it on any organic being..."
"While we're on the topic of the human body...What exactly can you do to manipulate the human form?" Lloyd asked softly as he tilted his head in a curious fashion, his eyes moving to meet Rox's as the alchemist paused for a moment.
"While it is nearly impossible to transmute an organic body completely, it is possible to affect one of the key elements within the body. Take nitrogen for example. All beings obtain it in one way or another and from there, use it to fulfill bodily purposes like produce protein. It's an extremely complex formula, but just by raising or lowering the amount of nitrogen, it can effect the human body far more than you know. Since this is practice however, you wont be working with any organics. For now, just generate a statue or something with about the same general mass of a human being seeing as we're only working with 'amounts' here."
Lloyd nodded then traced over his transmutation circle to rid it of any imperfections that the last couple of transmutations had caused. An instant later, there was a flash of light, and a human-shaped form rose from the earth as a moment later, a decent-sized statue stood between the pair.
No more than ten minutes after mastering the final bit of alchemy, Lloyd was dashing along the streets once more. There was another alchemist, Rox had told him, that he would be able to learn at least a little more from. "Roy Mustang" - that was what Rox said his name was, and though the man was an odd individual, and occasionally a jerk, he was a well known alchemist in these parts and regarded as a war hero in the eyes of some people.
That made him even more important in Lloyd's eyes as both a possible teacher as well as a good person to know.
Eventually, the shinobi slowed in front of what appeared to be a military building. Raising a brow, he entered, following the instructions of several other strangers that pointed away until he stood in front of a desk where a man in a blue uniform sat, his upper half collapsed, and his face rested on what appeared to be a dirty magazine as he remained there in a seemingly eternal slumber. Unfortunately, Lloyd needed the man awake to actually get anything out of him.
"...Roy Mustang?"
A snort was his response as the man jerked suddenly upon hearing his name, looking for the source of the voice, until eventually, his eyes fell upon Lloyd and a lazy brow raised curiously. "Can I help you?"
"Ahhh, so that's how it is! That lil' b*****d sent you my way to teach you some battle techniques!" Mustang said loudly as he thought for a moment, the 'lazy nature' and oddly, the porno magazine now gone. "So I suppose we shall start now...With a technique that I'm particularly known for," He added as he slipped a hand into his desk, drawing out a pair of white gloves which he tossed to Lloyd. "Slip those on. They're made of a special fabric which generates enough friction to release a spark. From there, you utilize the transmutation circles on the gloves to adjust the oxygen levels. As you could expect, the result is fire, but with alchemy, you can escalate it to a full on explosion, and it's force all depends on the amount of oxygen you feed that spark, and as you probably know, oxygen is a rather common element, so you don’t really need to worry about running out of it."
Lloyd examined the gloves for a moment before sliding them on. To test them, the shinobi snapped his fingers, and as expected, earned a spark as a result. Utilizing the seal for a moment, he snapped his fingers and this time, a burst of fire extended nearly a foot in front of him. Even from his current standing point, the heat was intense and the sound that erupted from the combustion of oxygen was like a low rumble, almost akin to thunder but not quite so.
"You'll need to practice, to learn how to properly control the intensity of the blast, as if you use to much, it could prove to be harmful to both yourself as well as your allies in the area. Generally, it all just depends on what kind of field you're fighting on. Thus, when using alchemy, observance is your greatest ally. That way, you can utilize the elements, and from there transmute your weapons or anything along those lines. This kind of alchemy is no different. For example, you don’t want to use a large flame within a came or a short-ranged one in the midst of a desert, unless of course, odds fit your favor. However, never allow yourself to get into a situation where you think you have all under control and end up losing yourself, as it's in that very scenario that many good soldiers get into deep s**t and end up meeting casualties. Also, we'll continue your training later...There is something I must take care of."
Oro arrived within the village fully alert and some what curious. After what just occurred, several massive armies of slime and then a giant organ ball that could regenerate and make pseudopod rise from the ceiling, walls, and floor. Oro only thought the ninja world was getting stranger and stranger by the day. And if it was not for the ninja known a Drago, what would have happened back there. Maybe everyone their would still be there at this very moment. But Oro was rather grateful for a ninja such as Drago. He was like a super hero of the ninja world.
As Oro walked around the village, he noticed that it was more of a city rather than a village. He could see several large sculptures and what not. After about ten minutes of wandering through Hidden Alchemy, Oro arrived at an empty court yard that seemed to extend on for about half a mile. Oro only stood in amazement as he wondered what something like this could be used for. Then he noticed several nicks and cracks within the white stone tile below, he also noticed some burn marks and some small craters throughout the area.
"Training grounds eh? I wonder what type of techniques they use here. And to cause this type of damage," Oro said to himself as he simply stood there observing the surrounding area.
Looking around the training grounds, Lloyd's attention was caught as he spotted a figure. This figure had the stature of a male and was dressed in clothes that were not accustomed to the area, for in Hidden Alchemy it was some what uncommon or strange to dress like ninja from the other villages. Assuming this male was another ninja, Lloyd figured he could learn or maybe even teach this ninja something. He also hoped to acquire friendship with this ninja because this man technically the first real ninja that Lloyd had ever seen outside of the academy.
Leaping down from the tree branch he sat on the lie not to far off from the ninja, Lloyd raised his hand into the air and then began to wave it in the air. Giving a friendly and inviting wave. He began to steadily walk closer to the man to get within conversing distance of the other ninja. "You seem either new or lost to alchemy my friend," Lloyd said as he was stopping his steps right in front of the ninja. He got a quick glimpse of the ninja's head band and realized that he was from one of the major villages the Hidden Leaf village.
As Oro wandered throughout the strange science based village. He could see another ninja in a black suit with thin white stripes running down it approach him from a tree that stood within the training court.
As the ninja approached from the distance, Oro activated his Sharingan to pick up on how strong this ninja was. Oro could see by the cold and dim chakra color and low level intensity that he has, he is clearly stronger than the ninja that approached him. Oro assumed that this ninja had also participated in the distortion of this place, that is if he was native to the village himself. But Oro found out soon enough that this ninja was indeed native to this village when he had asked Oro if he was lost or new the the village.
Upon the ninja saying alchemy, Oro began to wonder if this alchemy was another form of ninjutsu. He was utmost eager to find out what this alchemy was. As he had never been a witness to this power before.
"Eh, what is this alchemy you speak of friend," he said as the man stood before him.
Listening to the ninja as he asked Lloyd to show him a demonstration of alchemy, he reached into his bag and grabbed a kunai from his bag. He held it up in front of him between himself and the ninja. With a miniscule jolt of chakra and a strange electric magnetic sound, the kunai changed into a long broad sword. With another jolt of chakra the sword would change into a chain that wrapped around his arm with weighted point on the end of the chain. Lloyd started swinging it around and it began to creature a low wind-rushing noise. "Want to test my alchemy against your ninjutsu, friend?" Lloyd asked with a friend smile on his face.
For some strange reason Oro felt that the two of them were connected in some strange way. The alchemy ninja's face reminded him of some one he had met back during his academy days. But who could it be? As the ninja spoke to Oro he kept thinking about it, almost ignoring the ninja, until the kunai he waved glared off of the sun and caught Oro's eye.
"Who could he be...He is entirely to familiar to me...wait!," Oro thought as he apparently remembered who this ninja actually was. It was Oro's best friend from the ninja academy, Lloyd. While most of the other students thought of him as an outcast because he wore strange clothing, Oro always saw a strange uniqueness within the boy when they were young. Although Oro was a grade ahead of his friend.
"Lloyd....are you Lloyd Howard? It is me, Orochimaru," Oro said to his friend. Thought it would be slightly hard to believe because he had an entirely new appearance due to his previous death and revival.
Now remembering the ninja from the previous days when Lloyd had attended the ninja academy. Those were the more tragic days of his life due to the fact that Lloyd was almost constantly picked on, it seemed that his friend Orochimaru was the only one who ever did anything to show that he actually cared for others no matter what might have influenced others. Now seeing this his best friend once more, it made him not only excited, but eager to want to endure combat with the Leaf ninja from his childhood.
"That's me! And it always has been my friend. Now we must spar. Let's see who has come the furthest since those academy days!," Lloyd responded with glee as he strafed backwards and swung his arm, releasing the kunai and causing it to fly directly at Oro. Being an alchemist and being able to transmute thing in battle could give Lloyd the absolute advantage if he used it correctly and could get an approximate estimate at Oro's current chakra levels.
As the kunai came directly at Oro quickly made his move. With a flash of what seemed to be a nanosecond, the kunai that was directed at Oro would have been cut cleanly in half. Oro held his katana as a small concentrated layer of what seemed to be electricity laced the blade. Using the Chidori Nagashi technique, Oro managed to straight through the kunai with ease. He figured he would practice some of his clan techniques since he was still some what fairly new to this body of his.
Oro took his stance for the snake fist style. He figured that he could combine both the snake fist style with the Chidori Nagashi and create an utmost deadly technique. But he wouldn't attempt to actually do anything that would cause any fatal harm unto his friend. But getting hit directly with this could be fatal itself. Once he had gotten his stance correct, Oro made his move. He dashed straight towards Lloyd, striking with a fury of stabbing strikes that would easily impale if they made any contact. And because Oro could control the chakra around the blade, if he decided to cause the chakra to spread out he could kill Lloyd. And because he was so much faster than the current opponent because of the gap in chakra levels, this would be too easy for him.
Dodging as many of the blows as he could, Lloyd ducked and strayed left to right. With his effort, it seemed almost useless to even try to dodge something coming with such velocity. Not only that, because Lloyd was almost eight times weaker than his current foe he only had the option to dodge or bring this battle to a close and he had to decide rather quickly before he would be hit with a barrage of lightning barb attacks. At first it seemed as if he would try to outlast Oro, until he realized that he couln't keep up with the ninja that well. When he slowed up to make his move Lloyd was grazed with the slightest bit of chakra from the blade which caused his cheek to split open with a small cut a leak a small amount of blood. With that, Lloyd performed the substitution jutsu and would be instantly replaced with a small chopped peice of log. He hoped Oro's blade would get stuck and give him time to make his move. Once he successfully did that he swiftly reached for a kunai and transmuted into a broad sword. Because he was now behind Oro with use of the substitution technique, it would provide him with a broad opening for a clean attack. He gave his sword a heavy weighted swing towards the back of Oro's cranium.
Oro still had his Sharingan activated, which made everything for him move in what seemed to be almost slow motion. The only things that seemed up to speed were his own reactions and attacks. As the boy would try to keep up with Oro by trying to dodge all the stabs he had performed, Oro would only laugh in his head. He could clearly see the gap between the two of their power levels, and with his Sharingan, which gives chakra color it made it even more clear to him. As he stabbed, Lloyd was replaced with a log by using the substitution technique, but Oro's blade would cut cleanly through the wood as if it were a burning blade cutting through tissue paper.
Out of instinct, Oro figured the ninja would appear behind him like the usual tactics of a ninja once using the substitution jutsu. It would seem as Oro turned around with lightning quick speed and then quickly process and read Lloyd's attempted attack. He noticed that the blow could have been fatal as if the ninja wanted to kill Oro; and because he was thinking to fast, his reflex kicked in and forced his body into action. Oro arched his blade a an horizontal angle and gave it a thrust forward. Because his blade was still laced with the lightning nature chakra, it would cleanly slice through the blade that Lloyd had transmuted. But for some reason Oro followed through from that point. Continuing his slash straight towards Lloyd's chest. The blade would go from one lung to the other and rip with the lightning based chakra that laced the blade.
Two figures silently watched the battle, one from either side, on one side if you knew where to look for him, you'd see a carbon copy of Lloyd, of course this wasn't him, but someone who seemed to look just like the man, he scowled seeing that his chance to crush the person he viewed as an impostor on his good image being pushed back by someone else. The other man on the other side didn't care who won or lost so long as someone perished in the attempt. The first was known as Momiji, a hunter nin just starting out on a path of carnage and destruction, the other known only as Riku was a apathetic male who was in search of a certain key, what this key opened and where he would find it was unknown. Momiji knew the outcome of the battle before it even happened this battle would not end well for either of them if he had any voice in the matter. He cracked his knuckles pulling the dark gloves tighter around his finger, there would be blood and lots of it.
