::Ruuvan wouldnt be the first person to call him that, the similarities were indeed blatant. But nothing ever related to Maximos would ever be that simple. The boy didnt stop, he just shouted back.::

Big brudda says my name is D, wittle D! My name iz nawt Makshi!

::He was about to say something when he very quickly realized he shouldnt. Big brother told him not to talk about that either because it could be bad. So he went silent and just kept on running. As much relation as the kid had to the shadow warrior, he wasnt him. Though surely wherever Maximos was at the moment he'd have a good laugh if he could have seen Ruuvan say that!::

The young woman barely managed to keep up with the boy, even though she was running at top speed. She too needed him to wait- who knew what was down here under the desert? To be perfectly honest, not even she knew. She certainly had no idea...

"He's right! We have no idea what's next down here! Slow down!"

The boy may or may not listen, but that didn't matter as the tunnel ahead of them quickly turned into a set of stairs that went downwards for about 10 meters. Ever downward, into the deep they ran. Torches lit the way down into the first room, but other than that, there was nothing.

::Errrrrrrrrr....ksss. Something like a car screeching to a halt could be heard as the boys boots screeched along stone and sand until finally coming to a stop right at the first step. And barely too, his weight thrust him forward a bit and he could actually be seen teetering for a moment on the edge of that first step before finally gaining enough balance to plant a foot on the next step and steady himself.

But strangely, as soon as he got his balance back he pulled his foot back up and set it beside him, and began shaking his head side to side. It was like he had just done something wrong, and he did.

He would sit and wait for Ruuvan and the woman to arrive, more Ruuvan than the woman, because the moment Ruuvan did, the boy reached his right hand up and grabbed Ruu's hand gently, and said almost sheepishly.::

Big brudda says to awlways go down da dawrk stairs wif and adult. So I'm gonna go wif you Mr. Ugwy Ewf.

::And then he began walking. Oh, he could dash down a hallway and dodge harrowing traps, but when it came to stairs...better take it slow. That made perfect sense!::

"Fire tonic?" Brass replied numbly for a second before his arrow disappeared and with the same hand he reached into his cloak and dug around for something. His left hand still held a tight grip on his bow, just in case. Though it wasn't something he usually kept on his person, fire tonic did have its' uses for the numerous things Brass like to do with fire. He secretly wish he had learned fire magic over wind magic, but so many knew fire magic that he teacher thought it to be a fad to learn it.

"Here ya go." Brass tossed out a bottle about the size of a normal potion bottle, seemed he did have some fire tonic left.

Brass sighed when the man mentioned the cave was a hour away, last thing he felt like doing was more walking, but he didn't feel like being out in the open either. "Let's head to the cave." Then he motioned for the man to lead the way.

Ruuvan

PostPosted: Fri Feb 03, 2006 10:05 am

Ruuvan was surprised to have his hand greeted with that of the child's as he reached the stairs, appearing to have no signs of fatigue from the rather long run the group had just undertaken.
"My name is Ruuvan, D." The two had no introduced themselves, which only left the woman to say her name at some point, so he was willing to walk down the stairs holding the child's hand. Ruu had to hold the bow and arrow with one hand now, but it was still notched and ready to fire after a single motion, so he was still prepared, but he needed to ask about something D said, "Why are you calling me an 'ugly elf', little D?" His ears were barely noticeable, even during medical exams he went to frequently, so how could this child possibly know of his Elven heritage.

Ruuvan
"My name is Ruuvan, D."

I know.

::The boy said as he made his careful steps down the stairs. It was strange, it was almost as if he was afraid that if he slipped he would fall into some dark deep oblivion. But how could someone like him be afraid of the dark? He wasnt. But then what? Who knows. But he was slowly and carefully placing one foot at a time as he traversed "the stairs".::

::Its true, his elf ears hadnt even been noticed by the boy yet. But he knew his name, and he knew more, as he said when he spoke.::

Wewl, when you take da pwetty shiny off of your neck, you becomes an ugly ugly ewf. And you have holes here, and here, and here.

::And as he said that he poked his cheeks, and arms, and stomach as he tried to point out all the spots on an undead in which rot might have effected his appearance. And after about 20 pokes or so he continued.::

Yer skin, its gets awl darks and stuffs. And yer eyes, dey get awl darks and stuffs, and you smewl.

::There was a very big nod as he mentioned the smell. Dead flesh, definately stunk. And he concluded with...::

You wook alot better like dis...yep yep!

She nodded as the two of them introduced themselves. But how he knew Ruuvan's name, she didn't know either. Waiting until they were finished, she introduced herself next, because it was only polite. "I'm Claire; it's nice to make your aquaintance, both of you." She smiled warmly as they continued descending the stairs.

Later, at the bottom, they were in the first room. Norse runes were everywhere, carved intricately into the walls as if they had been there for centuries on end. The portraits that accompanied them told the tale of the Valkyries, champions of Odin and choosers of the brave souls that were led to Valhalla.

There were many of them- innumerable. An entire army of divine shieldmaidens wandering the land, looking for suitable candidates for the Ragnarok. Of course, ten of them were the most powerful and wise... and it was those ten who were chosen to protect the artifacts of power called Rune Stones. However, the Ragnarok had come and gone, and those ten fell from the heavens, all in different parts of the world.

Their immortal souls had, over the years, turned into crystals. A perfect, two inch wide sphere of beauty, carved with the bindrune that was basicly the name of the one who was guarding it. Each stone was not only a casing for their souls, but had its own defenses as well.

As a result, just like underneath Latent... there would be dangers ahead. Many of them. The runes warned them of this, and Claire read them aloud..

"Strength, courage and wisdom, honor and truth. Keep these things in mind as you tread the path. Trespass on these grounds at the risk of thine own soul. Defile, and you shall be punished. Only the worthy and the brave will ascend to the heavens, while the unjust and cowardly will fall to the underworld for all eternity."

And when she had finished... several sections of the wall opened. Three giant salamanders stepped out, sniffing the air. They growled hungrily as they smelled their next meal- the three who were now in the center of the room. The only two exits in the room were blocked, the trick stone slabs hidden in the ceilings of the wide entryways sliding downwards.

"Um... not good."

She drew her 35" long machete and inched backwards toward Ruuvan and D...

Now this was definitely something: Only a few had ever seen his appearance without the necklace and most of the times he took it off was inside and out of view from the public, so how on Earth could this kid know what he looks like? D's pointing made it even more evident he knew of the true forms, of course anyone could poke in a random place and most likely be pointing out a wound, but D was getting all of them right, each of them were battle scars from Aria.
"How do you know so much?" Ruuvan's good eye was open in surprise as he let go of the boy's hand and questioned him, entering the room before Clair got to work on the runes.

"I could've told you that without being able to read the runes, so just be ready for anything." Ruu turned from the boy briefly to address Claire once she had finished reading, adjusting his hands on the bow so they were once again in the firing position.

Ruuvan quickly drew the string - which seemed to come back easier than most - as soon as the Salamanders came out, keeping the arrow trained on the sole beast to the right of them as Claire moved over to him and D.
"They're living things, they die just as other beasts do." This seemed to be a slight change from the normal, mildly cheerful Ruuvan from a few minutes ago, but he was now focused on clearing out the threat and getting this guardian beaten, "Go for what you can."

Both flanks of the group had Salamanders, but their right only had one, so that was the first order of business. With his bow already notched and the right one in his sights, for lack of a better word, Ruuvan let go of the string and fired the arrow towards his target, quickly slipping the bow onto his back and drawing both swords as he turned to face the two on their left.

::The boy was about to answer. His mouth was open, he had taken a breath in, he was about to say the words!!! But the Claire spoke, and D was always told never to interupt people...and so he didnt, he stopped. And out came the Salamanders. He wasnt the brightest tree on the branch, he squeeled and shouted.::

Squeeeee, they're so cyute!!!

Ruuvan
. With his bow already notched and the right one in his sights, for lack of a better word, Ruuvan let go of the string and fired the arrow--

NO!!

::His hand rose up with reflex speed unseen and unheard of in children his age. His right hand rose up and snatched the arrow right out of the air. Only one person had been able to do that before. And he immediately snapped the arrow over his knee. It turned out to be just an ordinary arrow...wasnt that what Ruu was hoping for?

Ordinary or not, the child was rather pouty as he looked Ruuvan in the face and said very gruffly.::

Dont be mean! They didnt do nuffing to you! Say sowwy!

::Yes...he was completely and totally serious.::

And while they were doing stuff, the lizards had the time they needed to rear back on their hind legs, prepare themselves... and spit. The acid came zooming at the three of them at a rate of about 25 feet per second, which meant that in the time it took them to get their heads together, balls of burning acid that were about six inches in diameter headed towards them.

Claire had kept her guard up, and as they reared back, she turned around, grabbed Ruuvan by the collar, then the boy (with an apologetic sorry in advance), and dove out of the way.

The three fireballs met in the center where they once stood, and exploded on contact!

"Keep your heads together; it's already started!"

::That was NOT NICE! The boys eyes expanded. He was being attacked. But it took it a step further. Not only did his pupil's expand...they outright exploded. Not in a firey boom, but like a liquid capsule shattering the black of his pupil expanded and covered both his eyes in rich black. Souless black, what you might expect to see when looking into the deepest region of hell.

He growled. But not the type of growl you would hear from a kiddy voice. The type of growl you expect from something dark....wrong....evil.

He had extended trust to the creature! He had tried to save it! Called it cute! Now it wanted to boom him up! Why would a boy think a monster is cute.

No. He was angry...very angry. His teeth shown fully, his mouth filled with little more than two rows of razor sharp fangs. Nothing bit triangular serrated teeth. Fury, filled the bow. The waning shadows of the room gathered around him like something of a flaming aura, in his hands was immediately manifested the jet black sword of moments before. And in a blink, he was gone. He would rip through the womans grasp like water and dash across the battlefield like a demon. That sword must have been light because he held it in one hand and prepared to bring down shadowy death.

He wouldnt not stop with one, slash, or even two. For what described the creatures hadnt made much of a movement, and room was now blocked. Congratulations, they fell into HIS trap. He slashed his sword from side to side, whilst his body spun in place like disgustingly deadly top with its blade angled down. His slash radius was everything in an 11ft circle with him in the center. How would these lizards react to being hit by a 150lb greatsword spinning like a demon blending across their entire field of vision.

It took all of a few seconds, but then the shadows joined his dance, below him the shadows themselves spun like the puree blades of a blender. The shadows dug in from the floors and walls, and even from the boy itself, painting the room in whirling blades. His raw emotion controlled his power. The only safe spot in this room was a single corner, where a woman had pulled Ruuvan and herself. The boy held alot more power than he realized, but he had no control. His only control was his emotions, but being a child he had no control over those. This was the unbridled expression of his anger. The blade had taken a sickly and warped form. It was as if it was formed from the brink of madness made solid. He wasnt aiming at one lizard, but all lizards, infact in all honesty he was aiming at everything and anything that moved. And all the while, all that could be heard from the boy was laughter. Sickly maniacle laughter, echoing from what seemed like thousands of voices.::

Ahahahahahahaaaaaaaahaaaaaa!!

::He would continue his whirling dervish until all that was left was chunks of meat. And then, only then, when his enemy was gone, he'd fall flat on his room, his head spinning as he was dizzy. The shadows vanished as quickly as they came and the sword seemed almost non-existant, the boys eyes were back to normal, and he was simply giggly. As if he had no idea what he had just done.::

Aww....cyutey lizards went away.

::A boy wouldnt find a monster cute...a bigger monster would...::

Ruuvan had never seen anything like what the boy had just done, not in Gaia anyway, so he must've known something or come from somewhere else - like Aria, for example, but he really had no idea. All he could do was stay on the ground with Claire as the shadows made their dance and the dark blade sliced through the lizards with little effort. D was only young and still had so much power, so much that it put Ruu to shame in a way, but he had no control and could only focus the attack on anything that posed a threat, or that's how it seemed anyway, but at least they were dead.

"Maybe they went to bed." Ruuvan mused as he got to his feet, replying to D's question as he walked towards the centre of the room, "How about you answer my question: How do you know so much about me, D?" There was no threat now, but he still kept the sword drawn, so he waited for an answer.

"W.... what?"

She felt the boy vanish... then saw him tear apart the salamanders with reckless abandon. Her eyes widened as the sight both intrigued her... and terrified a part of her that was so deep within her, it would have seemed unreachable by anything but the most extreme emotions. She was scared of the boy now- highly so. But fear was not a reason to sit there and do nothing- she just couldn't move.

If she did, she would be diced just as easily as they had.

It was over just as quickly. Claire was a bit shocked after all she had seen. Just what was this child? She shook her head to clear the cobwebs that had formed as the doors slid upwards, the walls coated with acid, burning as the flames danced on the surface of the liquid. She stood up slowly, her knees shaking slightly.

"What the hell... never mind. Let's just keep going." After dusting herself off, she walked from the corner that she had hidden in and headed towards the far door, deeper into the tunnels. She stopped in front of the entrance, turned, and waited for the others.

Fire Tonic - a liquid accelerant made from flamables on the mortal plane, some enhanced by specific items from the Demon World. This liquid is best for any form of falcified pyromancey and any kind of pyrotechnics, it is unfortunately extreamly volitle, almost to the level of nytro glicerin. It is extreamly irritant to the skin and should NEVER be handled out of the bottle. First degree burns will take place within a minute, accelarating up to third degree in five. Essentially, explosive acid.

Alternatively, Fire Elementals can use fire tonic as not only an accelerant to their own powers, but in fact, an Elixer [restore HP + MP]. This will always look odd to anyone who knows Fire Tonic's effects.

Halycanos snatched the bright pink liquid from the air, uncorking it and splashing it directly onto his bare flesh. It sizzled for a few seconds before something quite remarkable happened. The marks from the arrows faded. The real one closed all together, but the divine wounds left scars. The simple presence of the scars made the odd pendant on his neck go berserk, shining and emitting an odd noise. "...calm down..."

At the bark, the pendant calmed some, falling back to place. He sighed and looked up. "The cave then. Alright. We'll grab some supplies. It's an hour in the wrong direction, but if get there, sleep, then leave at sun down. We'll get the Strata at sun up. For the fact you've been out in this heat, you're obviously suicidal."

And with that, Halycanos turned in the direction of his cave, simply walking off.
