Terryn shook her head. "I do not believe I really care to." She layed the rose, which she still had in her hands, onto her stomach, resting her hands on top of it. "I have never seen the stars like this before...Momma and I used to watch them from the garden when I was young, but we are so close to court that the abundance of torchlights and noise tends to ruin the effect." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, a serene smile lighting her face. "This is so..." She opened her eyes and glanced at him. "Perfect."

Marcus supposed he had to be content with that. He nodded, and murmured his agreement. And slowly, surely, he began to drift asleep.

"Marcus, I-" Terryn blinked, noticing that he now had his eyes closed. It probably wasn't the best idea for him to be sleeping on the cold grass alone like that, so she curled up next to him, laying her head lightly on his chest and drawing herself in close to him. If the coachman came upon them, which he eventually would, he would have a good story to tell the duchess.

The coachman, however, when he realized that the two of them were not coming back anytime soon, assumed Marcus was up to his usual tricks, went inside the coach, and also fell asleep promptly. And so the night passed, and the moon gazed fondly at the couple from every angle that it could.

A small shiver passed through Terryn's body as she awoke the next morning, an unfamiliar sensation as she was usually tucked in her bed with the fire going. As she blinked, she felt the rays of the sun starting to warm her already and the bright light hitting her eyes, more than they normally did through the small windows. Terryn yawned and rubbed her eyes, sitting up and taking a good look around before realizing she was not at home. She glanced down at Marcus's sleeping form on the ground and couldn't help but smile. Had they actually spent a night together?

Marcus felt some movement near him, and opened an eye. He was never a fantastic thinker in the morning, and seeing Terryn only took his wits further away, and he smiled at her. "Good morning."

"Good morning." Terryn's hair was already falling out of the ribbon, so she pulled it out and let her hair fall into place naturally. She looked around at the knoll, it was quite nice in the daytime as well as at night. "Did we actually sleep that whole night without being caught?"

Marcus nodded, smiling. "We did." He watched her hair tumble down, which he realized was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen, and he sat up, quite determined (in his nonthinking way) to kiss her.

Terryn leaned back on her hands, looking first at the sky and then at Marcus. "It is nice, I must admit. Waking up without hearing Serina's frantic screaming. It is very peaceful."

Marcus blinked a few times, still in the process of waking up. "But...won't your father be at all worried?" he asked, still sitting up. His grandmother would probably be terribly nosy and worried and secretly pleased.

"Probably, but I can always say that the party ran late and the coachman was too tired." Terryn shrugged and laid down again for a moment, absentmindedly running her fingers through her hair. "I am glad we chose to come here and not the banquet."

"I'm also glad that the elders decided not to join us," answered Marcus. The grass was so green, and the sky so blue, and the sun so bright, and Terryn so...Terryn. It seemed like this moment might as well be one of the best moments of his life.

Terryn nodded in agreement. "If they had, I am sure we would have spent a boring night trying to pretend the DuBois have edible food and trying to mingle with their six friends." She remembered their last affair, not impressive in the least. "I much prefer to just spend a quiet night alone with you." Being half awake herself, Terryn did not have all her faculties and as such had problems thinking clearly about what she said.

Marcus was less awake than he should have been, and he interpreted this just as he wished. "And I the same with you," said Marcus. "I've enjoyed--very much enjoyed--our meetings," he confessed.

Terryn actually felt good about this. Normally she hated people, especially men, taking a liking to her, but since she and Marcus were just friends and co-conspirators, it was alright. They were both too smart for silly things like emotions. "As have I. They are the most I have been allowed to express my intellect in a long while."
