No.. call me cynical, Maggie, but...
There's not enough blood. If the Seraphim had come here, he'd be here right now. Or else Tavin fought him off. And if Tavin fought him, one of them would have been badly hurt.

*Maggie moves forward to help him right the shelf, then stoops to start gathering up the scattered books*
Ye're likely right . . *she winces a little, recalling the struggles between them she's witnessed* 'Twould be far worse than this had they clashed here . . .
Still . . . I wonder what could have caused this, then . ..

*He scoops up a number of books off the floor and begins to shelve them*

None that I could e'er see. *she replies, sliding the books back into place along the shelves she can reach*
Though somehow, I suspect, howe'er we put them back, *she shakes her head a little, just thinking about the nature of the Brink in general* They may well end up rearranging themselves in their own manner, regardless.

*Maggie reaches down to gather up another book at that same moment, inadvertantly going for the same one as him. Their hands brush, and she pauses, flushing faintly as she looks down at them. Bard seems to be acting more himself now, but she's still feeling a little uncertain from their previous meeting*
*She doesn't pull her hand away, though, but lifts her eyes to look at him*

*Maggie's expression shifts to one of part relief, part concern. She wants to ask what it is, what's troubling him. The question is right there on her lips, in her eyes*
Bard . . ? *she begins, but can't find the words to voice the rest of it. She squeezes his hand gently in return, hoping the gesture might convey at least some of what she wants to say*

*Bard rubs his thumb gently across the back of Maggie's hand. He releases his grip rather hesitantly and stands up*
I'm going to upright the rest of the shelves and see if anything was permanently damaged. Then I'll help you pick the rest of the books up.

*Bard surveys the shelves--some of them toppled like dominoes--trying to decide where to start. He takes his jacket off and rolls up his sleeves, getting to work.*

*Maggie continues cleaning up the books as Bard works, filling the shelves as high up as she can reach. She glances over at him every now and again, and several times comes close to saying something . . . but then stops, and turns back to the books*
*She sighs inwardly, frowning at herself. She's being cowardly and she knows it*

*The bookshelves aren't heavy, but they're awkward to lift, and the strain is making Bard hot. He unties his tie and collar tucks it into his shirt pocket, then loosens the top buttons of his shirt before lifting the next shelf. Once he uprights it he looks over at Maggie, busy with her books.*
*He knows he's being cowardly, but the alternative....*

*Maggie pauses in the middle of putting away another armful of books, then casts another glance towards Bard. She sees him loosening his shirt collar and quickly looks back at the books, her cheeks turning pink. She puts the rest back on the shelf, and then looks over again . . . only to find him looking right back at her*
*She goes still for a moment, looking into his eyes, wishing she could just somehow magically know what to do. But she knows . . . she knows if she doesn't want this awkward silence to stretch out, she's got to say something* Bard . .. *she starts, taking a few steps in his direction to close at least some of the physical distance between them*
