Marie
(A setup for her, occuring at some time in the near past in the plains outside a small town a little while away from Lab city:. She is in Lab currently. )
"May the power of the night protect us, though the sun shines bright. Spirits of the shadows, guide us and be with us in our battles. With the blessings of Nyx, let us bring swift defeat to our evil foes and purify the land of their vile influence."
A blond haired young woman walked slowly through a grassy field, mummuring a prayer as she searched for something. There was a road a few feet to her side, and a town visible behind her, just before the horizon. With her were two others: a similarly aged and clad, black haired woman with a large flail, and a very old and very bald, but not very frail man wearing heavy dark purple robes. They seemed to be carefully making their way through the field and looking for something. The flail bearer stumbled over something and stopped to look at the object, which appeared to be bones, mostly human, though it appeared that a dog had shared the same fate as the human. "Lady Marie! This appears to be the area where it attacks travellers." The raven haired girl called out to the blond, her blue eyes carfully scanning the area. Suddenly, her sparkling sapphire orbs caught sight of a slight movement in the earth. This warning, though coming only a moment before the attack, was enough to save the life of the woman as she jumped out of the way.
The ground seemed to crack around a large edge and lift up, revealing a huge creature with leathery skin. It stood about 9 feet tall. It's head and back were covered in grass-like hairs, and it's skin was the color of the dirt. It had huge claws, presumably for digging in and hiding, though they could probably be used to kill things effectively. It's mouth was full of both sharp teeth, presumably for ripping off flesh, and flatter ones presumably for grinding up bones and possibly plants. This observation of the inside of it's mouth was made as it snapped at the girl who was attempting to get away from the rising creature.
"Careful, Estel!" Marie called out to the black haired girl, as she ran over with the older man following behind. This warning, though noted by Estella, was not really necessary. As she landed she pulled out the flail and began swinging it. As the creature brought down a claw, she nimbly dodged and swung the flail. The spiked ball at the end of the chain hit into the mole-man like creature's claws, breaking two off about halfway down them. As the remaining claws of the creature dug into the ground, she was able to bring the ball around and slam it into the back of the creature's paw, causing a serious fracture and drawing blood. As she quickly moved to a safe distance, the creature pulled back it's hand, roaring in pain. Before the monster could react, Marie was upon it, slashing upwards with her sword. It would have been a flash, were the sword like most swords. Instead, the area where it passed dimmed momentarily. The blade travelled diagonally upward, starting at the side of it's abdomen, and up to it's shoulder, cutting off the left paw of the creature, that was partially extended in an attempt to strike at Estellsa, in the process. As it reached the end of it's strike, a wave of darkness flew from the edge of the sword and the wound, fading out after a few inches.
Although the sword had only went about a half inch into the creature's hide, the dark energies that were used in the attack made the wound much deeper. Even more hurt, he creature wildly lunged foward, falling on it's hurt paw, and snapping at Marie as she tried to scurry out of it's range. It moved foward quickly, intent on devouring her for causing it so much pain, but reared back as it felt several stabs penetrate it's green haired back. It gave a cry and then stumbled as it tried to turn around to face it's new tormentor. It quickly lumbered after the old Dark priest, the poison needles of darkness taking their toll on it, and would have collapsed upon and consumed him, had Estell not caught up enough to strike a blow to it's heel, shattering the bones there. The creature cried out once again, and stumbled backwards. It was unable to regain it's balance and landed on it's back with a thud. "Ryvis, hold it!" Estella called to the mage, who slammed the end of his staff into the ground. In responce to this action, the shadows under the creature erupted into tentacles that wrapped around and firmly held it to the ground.
Marie made her way to the weakened and dying creature. "Now, I will end your suffering, and provide release from that wretched and cursed form of yours." She raised her sword into the air above the creature's heart. Were it possible to shine with darkness, this blade certainly accomplished it. The pure black of the majority of what appeared to be a coating over the blade seemed to devour the light around it. The silverish edges were truely shiny, however, though the shine never seemed to quite get off of the blade, but rather be drawn into it, creating a sort of black void with a halo of light around it, and dimmed light around the halo, like an eclipse almost, though the light halo wouldn't cause blindness.
"The all-encompasing darkness that is death now recieves you. May the spirits of darkness guide you to your next life, that you may not be lost and alone in the void for all eternity as punishment for your sins." Marie drove the sword into the monster's heart. The creature, once a human who fell prey to a chance accident that mutated him into a cannabalistic mole-lizard like being, gave a death cry, then ceased struggling hopelessly against the restraints. "May you be reborn as a creature of beauty." She said as she removed and cleaned her sword, then put it away. "Allright," Marie spoke. "Let's head back quickly. We will rest then head for Laburnum."
After the group returned to the town, they had a party sent out to bury the monster's body, it having once been a local person. Ryvis went with them. After the burial, the dark priest came up to the grave and set a blessing on the creature's corpse, and over the site in general to protect the bones of fallen travellers. "Let this form remain in the care of death, never to walk again upon this world. No evil powers shall defile this body and convert it into a creature more vile than what it once was." The ward against necromancy complete, Ryvis joined the others in town. After that, they ate a meal, accepted their reward with much gratitude and left the town. After a short journey, they arrived in Laburnum, where they would contemplate where to go next.
