Marie
(A setup for her, occuring at some time in the near past in the plains outside a small town a little while away from Lab city:. She is in Lab currently. )

"May the power of the night protect us, though the sun shines bright. Spirits of the shadows, guide us and be with us in our battles. With the blessings of Nyx, let us bring swift defeat to our evil foes and purify the land of their vile influence."

A blond haired young woman walked slowly through a grassy field, mummuring a prayer as she searched for something. There was a road a few feet to her side, and a town visible behind her, just before the horizon. With her were two others: a similarly aged and clad, black haired woman with a large flail, and a very old and very bald, but not very frail man wearing heavy dark purple robes. They seemed to be carefully making their way through the field and looking for something. The flail bearer stumbled over something and stopped to look at the object, which appeared to be bones, mostly human, though it appeared that a dog had shared the same fate as the human. "Lady Marie! This appears to be the area where it attacks travellers." The raven haired girl called out to the blond, her blue eyes carfully scanning the area. Suddenly, her sparkling sapphire orbs caught sight of a slight movement in the earth. This warning, though coming only a moment before the attack, was enough to save the life of the woman as she jumped out of the way.

The ground seemed to crack around a large edge and lift up, revealing a huge creature with leathery skin. It stood about 9 feet tall. It's head and back were covered in grass-like hairs, and it's skin was the color of the dirt. It had huge claws, presumably for digging in and hiding, though they could probably be used to kill things effectively. It's mouth was full of both sharp teeth, presumably for ripping off flesh, and flatter ones presumably for grinding up bones and possibly plants. This observation of the inside of it's mouth was made as it snapped at the girl who was attempting to get away from the rising creature.

"Careful, Estel!" Marie called out to the black haired girl, as she ran over with the older man following behind. This warning, though noted by Estella, was not really necessary. As she landed she pulled out the flail and began swinging it. As the creature brought down a claw, she nimbly dodged and swung the flail. The spiked ball at the end of the chain hit into the mole-man like creature's claws, breaking two off about halfway down them. As the remaining claws of the creature dug into the ground, she was able to bring the ball around and slam it into the back of the creature's paw, causing a serious fracture and drawing blood. As she quickly moved to a safe distance, the creature pulled back it's hand, roaring in pain. Before the monster could react, Marie was upon it, slashing upwards with her sword. It would have been a flash, were the sword like most swords. Instead, the area where it passed dimmed momentarily. The blade travelled diagonally upward, starting at the side of it's abdomen, and up to it's shoulder, cutting off the left paw of the creature, that was partially extended in an attempt to strike at Estellsa, in the process. As it reached the end of it's strike, a wave of darkness flew from the edge of the sword and the wound, fading out after a few inches.

Although the sword had only went about a half inch into the creature's hide, the dark energies that were used in the attack made the wound much deeper. Even more hurt, he creature wildly lunged foward, falling on it's hurt paw, and snapping at Marie as she tried to scurry out of it's range. It moved foward quickly, intent on devouring her for causing it so much pain, but reared back as it felt several stabs penetrate it's green haired back. It gave a cry and then stumbled as it tried to turn around to face it's new tormentor. It quickly lumbered after the old Dark priest, the poison needles of darkness taking their toll on it, and would have collapsed upon and consumed him, had Estell not caught up enough to strike a blow to it's heel, shattering the bones there. The creature cried out once again, and stumbled backwards. It was unable to regain it's balance and landed on it's back with a thud. "Ryvis, hold it!" Estella called to the mage, who slammed the end of his staff into the ground. In responce to this action, the shadows under the creature erupted into tentacles that wrapped around and firmly held it to the ground.

Marie made her way to the weakened and dying creature. "Now, I will end your suffering, and provide release from that wretched and cursed form of yours." She raised her sword into the air above the creature's heart. Were it possible to shine with darkness, this blade certainly accomplished it. The pure black of the majority of what appeared to be a coating over the blade seemed to devour the light around it. The silverish edges were truely shiny, however, though the shine never seemed to quite get off of the blade, but rather be drawn into it, creating a sort of black void with a halo of light around it, and dimmed light around the halo, like an eclipse almost, though the light halo wouldn't cause blindness.

"The all-encompasing darkness that is death now recieves you. May the spirits of darkness guide you to your next life, that you may not be lost and alone in the void for all eternity as punishment for your sins." Marie drove the sword into the monster's heart. The creature, once a human who fell prey to a chance accident that mutated him into a cannabalistic mole-lizard like being, gave a death cry, then ceased struggling hopelessly against the restraints. "May you be reborn as a creature of beauty." She said as she removed and cleaned her sword, then put it away. "Allright," Marie spoke. "Let's head back quickly. We will rest then head for Laburnum."

After the group returned to the town, they had a party sent out to bury the monster's body, it having once been a local person. Ryvis went with them. After the burial, the dark priest came up to the grave and set a blessing on the creature's corpse, and over the site in general to protect the bones of fallen travellers. "Let this form remain in the care of death, never to walk again upon this world. No evil powers shall defile this body and convert it into a creature more vile than what it once was." The ward against necromancy complete, Ryvis joined the others in town. After that, they ate a meal, accepted their reward with much gratitude and left the town. After a short journey, they arrived in Laburnum, where they would contemplate where to go next.

Espa was finally able to relieve herself of Tsai's weight. Sol's minions led her to an attending room and the relieved psychic was able to lay Tsai down on the bed. Then she backed away. Before she left, she pressed 3 gold coins into an Initiate's hand and left before he could protest.

Twenty minutes later, Espa was outside the temple grounds and tilting her boonie hat low to block the setting sun's rays. She moved easily through the town and as she did, she probed for Mick and Saruo's brainwaves. She couldn't find them so she figured that they were out of range.

She made sure that her mental voice was smooth and had a bit of a purr to it.

Alcyone was roused from her sleep as soon as Kouji had stopped in front of her room. Before he had even knocked, she had given him the command to enter. Alcyone had her black sleeping robe on with the white sash belted a bit loosely. She ruffled her hair as Kouji knelt to inform her of the arrival of the ninja team. She nodded, yawned, and gave him her instructions. Kouji knelt again and then left to carry her orders out. The Kunoichi then laid back down and driftedeasily back to sleep.

Afterall, she had not slept in 72 hours and she needed her sleep.

Mick gave the contract killer another look over, and smiled, making sure not to smirk. Probably wouldn't have been the best of ideas...

"Well, good sir, by now they've probably called for authorities, so I shouldn't have you dawdle around here for much longer. Actually, I would have loved to see you work; what you did to that fatso, I mean, and most certainly not to me"

Mick pointed over to a rack where several silken robes were hung. "Put one of those on. Even in your state, no one would notice you walking around. There's an exit just a few yards down the hall, if you go back out the way you came in." Mick shifted a little in his bath. "But I'm sure you knew that already."

Mick rolled his head around, letting the muscles relax. "It was certainly nice to meet you, good sir. I can only hope our paths cross again, but not for the intentions of killing me."

Mick leaned back and relaxed in his bath again, not noticing whether the stranger was staying or leaving. He wasn't worried. During his conversation, he had set his wires at the ready. But Mick knew he wouldn't need them.

Elisabeth held the young girl around her shoulders as she watched the interchange between Niklas and Adrian. The poor man was being forced to move their luggage while that lazy man who had as of yet not done a single thing. With a sharp stinging voice she called out

"Adrian, put those bags down. Niklas, you can either assist in removing the luggage or you can leave....without pay." sighing with frustrating she then offered a comprimise that under normal circumstances she would have offered the man "If you require additional payment to assist him, it shall be from my own purse" her tone low and dangerous. She was not in a mood to deal with petty stupidities.

With the hope that it would get the distasteful man to assist Adrian, she moved the child towards the inn, securing them all rooms. With Niklas' being as far away from her and the child's as possible. She still wasn't sure if they would be able to pull this off but she would do her damndest to make sure that they could if it would make Alexander happy.

Adrian smiled internally at her comments. Niklas was necessary, and he was glad that Elisabeth put him in his place. If circumstances were different, he may have pursued Elisabeth to be his wife, but he would never dishonor Alexander or Elisabeth by doing so now.

Alexander was the one who showed him this group, Alexander was the leader. He would do everything possible to assist him in his cause.

Espa laughed out loud causing several people to give her funny looks. She merely waved them off and continued down the street. She smiled and probed for Saruo and Rym again but turned up nothing. So she replied to Mick.

She gave him a light mental flick to the brain with her mind's fingers. Nothing that would hurt him, just emphasize her point.

When Tiel's father came into the shop, he stopped dead in his tracks. "Tiel!" he shouted, spying her with her hand on the shadowsilk. "Get away from that! It's dangerous!"

Shocked, the child didn't move as her father ran toward her, scooped her up, and set her down as far away as he could get from the dark magic. Only then did he listen to what she was saying.

"It's not...it's really not...I made it."

"You what?!" Master Brooks bellowed, causing his daughter to cower in fear. "I refuse to believe it. If you made it, you could make it go away as well. So get it out of my shop."

Tiel nodded, scared now, and concentrated on slowly asking the shadows to go back to where they had come from.

Her father watched the shadows disappearing into his daughter's own, his worst fears being confirmed. "Why...why did you have to take after your mother!" He grabbed the girl roughly by the arm. "Come on!"

"Where are we going?" Tiel asked timidly as she stumbled after him, out of the shop, into the streets of Laburnum. The shadows she passed seemed to cling to her, as though trying to comfort her fears.

"To the Light Temple. Either we'll cure you of this malady...or we'll find someone to help you control it."

"But...I don't want..."

"Quiet, Tiel!"

Ellisandra was at a table alone sipping a cup of water watching the entrance, she never found mutch reason to drink anything else finding alcohol a drink for bufoons. She had been giving a sharp glare to the men looking at her and if that wasn't enough, with the help of the spirits sent was sending a chill down there spine to spook them. She didn't need men looking at her giving them idea's, she wasn't supposed to keep a low profile for a while.

Her mind scanned over the plan making sure she was at the right place, but her questions were answered when she saw who came through the door. She knew now she was at the right place and couldn't wait to get this over with, she despised being around all these people and wasn't even sure she managed to get along with the others of the 'group'. She took another sip of her water and watched as the others entered the tavern. The plan was going to start soon and she could get away from the crowded city, that was incentive alone to finish the mission.

Turning towards Elisabeth, a twisted smile crossed Niklas' face. He already had an advantage here, whether the others knew it or not.

"I'm sorry, m'lady, but I'm afraid that it is Alexander who controls how much I get paid." The twisted smile grew some, as he moved on to the veiled threat. "Besides, I know too much about our plans. You never know who might hire me if you go back on our deal. Or if I even think you might end up not paying me."

His soft yet harsh voice would have been barely audible even to his group, and any others in the area wouldn't have been able to hear a word.

Turning to the bathing man after a moment of silence, Rigel smirked.

"They have one of Hefter's burlier nephews stationed at every exit." he dropped the towel around his waist to reveal the bundled outfit, "That Hefter is apparently a public relations freak, nobody’s leaving until this incident has been..."

There was a slight hum of satisfaction in Rigel’s voice, "Forgotten."

His swagger of confidence and drugs brought him behind the silk screen that designated the changing areas. If this man knew he was a hired assassin, and a b*****d one at that, he wouldn’t want to screw around much. Hell, this might even land Rigel work outside the existing contract.

"I have a feeling I'm only going to be able to exit this building unless I either relax here for a bit, kill another person..." He had exited the screen with a towel on for real and one of his razor sharp daggers in hand. He had walked over to one of the marble basins being constantly filled by the statuesque fountains dotting the wall.

"Or I could just have a lot of..." He smirked and chuckled a bit. "Fun with one of these lovely ladies. I'm sure they could get me out."

He splashed his upper arm where blood had been oozing from the pins storage holes. For a second he watched the blood stain the water red. Then he calmly placed two new pins into the holes.

"That’s better, got to keep your tools clean, eh stranger?" He was half mocking half serious. He grasped the knife he had rested on stone surface. "I had my share of violence for the day. I need a to give pleasure a chance to catch up. We can never have too much pleasure, can we?"

With that he dragged the blade of the knife across an empty space on his arm, adding another notch to his twisted tally.

Espa couldn't suppress a smirk that creased her face as she arrived at Hefter's Haven. She entered the establishment and was immediately greeted by a polite woman in a kimono.

"Welcome to Hefter's Haven ma'am. How may I help you?"

"One bath please. And I'd like one of those baths that has all the different oils, lotions, and shampoos to choose from."

"Certainly! Right this way."

The woman led her down a hall that seemed to go on forever. Arashi followed, her hat in hand and her other hand in her pocket. She was whistling a tune that she heard in the market earlier. They passed a door that had a red rose beside it and Espa probed the occupants lightly.

The first one was clearly Mick, what with all the perverted thoughts swimming through it. She chuckled inwardly at some of them and then moved onto the other mind that was in there with him.

Darkness.

Espa usually probed new minds lightly but that was nearly impossible with this mind. It was like walking into a dark cave of ice. Against her will, her eyes slid shut and in her mind's eye, she could see this cave of ice. Fog swirled around her and Espa hugged herself. She looked farther into the cave and saw something moving. Instinctively, she started to move away from it, backing up slowly. A large claw lashed out from the darkness.

Espa tore her mind his before the claw could hit her. Her eyes slammed open and she stared at the door with the blood red rose beside it. The woman stared at her.

"Are you alright miss?"

"Me? Fine."

With that, Espa followed her into her room, right next to Mick's.

Before Lupin could do mutch talking someone else walked into the room, he seemed to have been forced in and anxious to leave. Lupin thought it odd and annoying of how the man entered without a knock and was already wanting to leave. Ayane quickly got up and checked to see why the man was ther. "Excuse me, sir are you being helped?" The man looked quickly to Ayane and then to the door "No no i was told to wait in here for a while, something happened in the hallway i suppose." Ayane simply nodded her head figuring it was proably connected to the scream that was heard earlier. Lupin could of swore he saw the man had mouthed the words 'my wifes going to have my head' and almost burst out laughing but kept it in.

Not soon after the door opened and Meleing stepped in, she told the man something and then the man quickly left. Lupin grinned he was alone with two women, somewhat bathed and naked that caused and all to wide grin to show. Meleing told something to Ayane as well witch caused her to gasp in shock and go pail, a few more words were passed and Ayane had moved over to a place to sit alone to think. Maybe the scream outside was something more than someone slipping? Lupin pondered over this thought for a while as Meleing walked over to him. "We will be giving you a trim now, if you would please grab and towel and follow me to the seats at the back of the room." Lupin would have made a joke about not needing a towel or something of the sort but the look on Meleing face didn't make her seem in a joking mood. So he complied and sat down, at the back of the room looking to Ayane who still seemed sick.

"What happened?" Lupin couldnt help but ask, turning to look to Meleing as she began to cut his hair. "Someone was killed in one of the other bath houses recently, Ayane doesn't take well with deaths, childhood problems it seems." That was a preety blunt answer Lupin thought as he watched his hair falling around him "So i take it you saw it the body?" She stopped for a few moments and then continued her cutting "I discovered it.." "You seem to be taking it quite well" "You get use to it after a while, walking into gruesome corpses" The eastern accent was gone and past memories seemed to be coming up. "I didn't think this kinda thing was normal here" "Its not" Meleing said flatly. That was Lupin cue to shut up and let her finish her work before another corpse did pop up, his. The time passed in silence and when the haircut was done, Lupin wasnt all to happy about it. It looked like his old one, way to mutch like his old one. "It wasn't your fault" Meleing smiled "Well when it happens so mutch ones starts to wonder, please finish your bath I will bring you shampoo's and let you relax in peice from there." She then moved over toward Ayane to talk to her for a bit. Lupin entered the bath water and fumed a little, there went his fun.

arrow Resteraunt near Marketplace

Himmley slurped the last of his soup as he finished his dinner, he was lucky enough to have found a gold coin on the ground when he had been seperated from the little boy. Thoughts of pursing after the boy were intriging but he decided when he figured he would be no help to mages when he knew so little about magic. This city was ful of adventures no need to stick to one that it wasn't going to move anywhere soon. Himmley smiled to himself and pictured a valiant hero rescuing a damsel, although he knew his dream was a bit cliche and farfetched, but there was no harm in dreaming. He knew he would never quest to save the world and find the love of his life all in the same day and the most he could ever hope to accomplish is to help a few people here and there with nothing truly important.

Himmley finished off his dinner with a roll and felt quite releived, the city had been great to him so far and was preety sure it was going to continue to do so. He blushed for a moment thinking about meeting a preety girl that might take a liking to him, he then laughed thinking of the silly things he might do on accident. He wasnt excatly graceful around females young or old and the preetier they were the more clumsier he seemd to get. He stood and payed for his meal and left the resteraunt he was at. His face a grinning and his steps large and daring. His stomach was full and he was ready to take on whatever was coming next-- atleast until it came.

Himmley was quickly pulled off the street into an alleyway slamming into a wall knocking the breath of him. Himmley quickly gasped for air and looked around to assess the situation. He had been pulled off the street by a bunch of thugs and each one grinning wearing green tunics and brown slacks. One of the men in the back chewing on what seemed to be a small dagger shaped shuriken started talking. "Did you like the meal, I hope it was tasty because that was my coin that you used to buy it with." Himmley could reply well being held up and partially choked and all, thoughts of reaching for his father blade came to mind, but he was to outnumberd to get away alive 6 to 1 at a disadvantage wasn't good odds. Besides they didn't hint they were going to kill him, yet. "Id ask for you to repay me but it doesnt seem you have money since you had to take mine to buy food. So I will tell you what i'll do for you, your going to work for me for a while to repay for that silly little coin you owe me, with intrest." The man smirked his size now becoming relevent to Himmley. This was a very tall burly looking fellow, he doubt he could scratch him with a blade even if given a chance. As he watched the man turn away Himmley vision went blury then black as he was knocked unconscious and carried elsewhere. This wasnt excatly the adventure he was looking for...
