Our school won't let us use rifles or sabres. crying I had a friend at a camp once who taught me how to do a few things with a rifle though, I wasn't very good.
I stick to flags and swing flags (we like to call them pep flags), we also use shields.

I'm on the "Flag Corps" for our school, but we aren't really a color guard, as we only have only use flags (and we have 1 baton twirler), which means 5 people overall.
But yeah, I am the first and only guy to have ever been on our corps, (co-captain none the less! Boo-ya!) and I think I will probably be the last one as well, as I am graduating this year, and no other guys will sacrifice their "masculinity" for something like this. lol
My signature move was a spin-toss. Drop-flat, toss, spin 360, catch. ^___^

poppysoda right now my sis(senior and guard leader) is so intent on me tossing a 5 on a rifle, and im a freshman!!!!!!im not even in guard!!!!!im tryin but its really hard.any tips on how? The only tip I can give you is master singles first. ANd grow. Don't skip the tosses in between cuz that will REALLY mess you up. WHen tossing triples think "Triple n****e" which means when you toss, your release point will be at the n****e. A quad will be your cheek and a five will be released slightly above your head. And when you toss pop your wrist. If you don't know what that means ask your sis and she'll show you. Also lock your dip! Locking helps you get momentum. Lock at a 225 degree angle on your dip when tossing doubles and triple and lock at a 270 angle when tossing a quad or a five. LAstly.... DO NOT FEAR THE RIFLE! The rifle is your friend. And also let the rifle come down to you, don't go grabbing for it. There is no fly in the air to swat away. Hoped I help. Any questions PM me. 3nodding

In August I began my first ever season in guard (I'm a freshman).... and let me tell ya, it was probably one of the worst seasons that my high school's marching band has ever had. We had a new band director who bought a show, and usually we write our own shows, and at first we had ten people in guard, but almost everyone dropped out except for me, two other freshmen, a junior, and the captain. And our instructor backed out before band camp even started, so we learned the basics from a college freshman who had been captain the previous year for the same high school, and then when she had to go off to college, we had to learn from a DVD.
But all in all, I fell in love with guard and I'm totally looking forward to it for next season, especially since we're going to be writing our own guard work for the next show, and since the new band director has learned a lot from her first season directing a marching band in so many years.
Has anyone had an guard-instructor-less season too?

This makes me sad... crying My school sucks so bad... We had Rifles for the longest time, and then they get rid of it my freshman year. That's originally what I was going to try out for, but I went for Flags instead.
And you know what makes it even worse? We only have 5 ft. flags. No sabres; no rifles; no nothing! We've had the same flags for... I think 7 years and the same uniforms for almost 6. It's outrageous... stressed
