The zombie was wrong in a way that made the hair stand up on the back of Jordan's neck, even after all the wrong and horrifying things he'd seen. It was twitchy, unnatural, stone-slow and then fast, and it wanted very badly to hurt the humans.
Jordan spat a curse as the zombie slipped past their guard to slash at the civilians; as it moved again, he and Ferros were there to meet it, swinging high and hard for the giggler's head and shoulders.

Melvin could only slowly look up at the ceiling and raise a eyebrow at what Rep was saying.
Well he seems happy. Gues he likes malls.
'He sounds nuts.' Melvin thought as he finished another runic.
I'm goin nuts. Let's fight something and stop picking at rocks. We do this enough at home.
'I suppose we can help out a bit.' He got up and walked out.
There wasn't enough time for him to move, the creature just seemed to stand about staring into space as they hit it, surely but slowly the creature started to notice where the monsters gaze was leading. "s**t it's going to-" he didn't get to finish as the creature let out a howl and jerked to life slashing at his face sending Roland stumbling backwards. Then it slashed at the Civilians before turning on the rest of the team. None of them could stop it but Jordan moved to crash Ferros into the monsters head as Roland made his way towards the humans.
"Enough of that s**t..." he muttered, "Sylvia. Sing me a song." As he strode towards where the Civilians where hunkered down, he started humming a dark tune the same song sung in full blast in his head as Sylvia built up the barrier, dust and blood shifted on the floor as if drawn slightly towards the weapon like someone breathing in just before he rose the scythe carving a line in the ground. The barrier flickered faintly, dust blowing around in the almost invisible wall, the next time the monster moved to strike the civilians it would only hit a wall of air before being blasted back by the wail of a banshee.
"I've got the civilians." His weapon snapped into chains again, the scythe tip lazily looping in the air in a small circle ready to lash out at the infected again to knock it off balance. "You guys bring her down before she can lay another claw on them."

Horace stuck to the wall as he moved. He was concerned about the light attracting things better left undistrubed. The drugstore seemed quiet and Horace gathered supplies - vinegar, antiacid powder (fanatstic, he wouldn't have to crush anything), a weird silicone ice cube tray, and rubbing alcohol. An entire bin of tiny flashlights went upended into his bag. With a quick glance around, he popped open the vinegar and began mixing. The calcium in the antiacid powder made the rubbing alochol and vinegar turn into a weird jello-like substance. A weird, highly flammable substance.
Horace waited impatiently for it to harden enough to pop out of the silicone tray. Once solidified, he could light them on fire and they'd burn and burn and stick to whatever he tossed them at. Maybe it would be useful. And, if it wasn't, maybe he'd have fun doing it and he'd picked up flashlights. He curled his toes in his squishy shoes and... paused. Something was sniffling nearby. Horace ducked down and summoned Jannisari before inching closer to the sound. He rounded the counter and they was a boy... at least it seemed like a boy.
"Pssst, you ok?" It was a gamble, but if the boy was a normal civilian, he couldn't just leave him. The boy's head snapped up, curly hair sproinging around his wide-eyed face. "Are you hurt anywhere?" A headshake. "Are you alone?" A nod. They played twenty questions and Horace finally convinced him to crawl forward, just a bit.

Ami's chastisement was still clear in his mind, den after a month of the conversation having passed. Lazy, never doing anything. He stared at the phone, the sender. Lex had made a fool of himself more than once when trying to argue with Rep, resented him a little for it. Who didn't Lex resent, though? Every able bodied Hunter. He was able bodied. He was a Hunter.
Late beyond being fashionable, Lex dropped into the situation with no idea of what had transpired. It was dark, there were glowing green eyes and shambling sihluettes. He looked to one of the standing Hunters in the base, shooting him a questioning eyebrow. The Hunter explained the bare basics; lights had gone out, the infected were harder to tackle, there was some kind of monstrosity needed to tackle. Another day at the office.
Regal was summoned and bandages were ready to go. Lex ran into the dark, mantra playing through his head: be useful.

He was still trying to convince the civilian that he wouldn't hurt her when the lights went out. Hissing a curse under his breath, his head whipped around for any source of light that might be available, spotting the flash of runes on weapons and torches coming to life here and there throughout the mall.
But where he continued to stand, it was impossibly dark. He couldn't even see Chance.
"Bella?" He spoke to the frightened woman, who had let out a small shriek. "Bella, we must go now. Here!" He removed his belt with a bit of maneuvering, and held it out towards where he had seen her last. "Hold into this, then we should not be separated in the dark!" He smiled, though she likely would not see it, and he held his hand there for sometime, unsure if she would bother grabbing hold.
He felt the belt go taut, her grip presumably closed around it tight.
"Okay." She whimpered, and he heard her scuffle to her feet. "Okay, I'll go with you."
Relief courses through him, and his own grip on the belt tightened. "That is good, Bella. We would only like to make sure you are safe. Now, let's see...." He turned, gaze roaming until he saw the nearest light, one that appeared just inside a store.
"This way. Just follow my voice." He added on, for Chance's benefit should the other man choose to stick with him.
They journeyed through the mall towards the light, and occasionally Thomas's feet slipped or squelched over some unseeable horror on the floor. Within good time considering circumstances, however, he was able to close in on the light, and the voice speaking in the dark, one that he recognized.
"Horace?" He called out towards a dark figure.

heading back to camp
Jack gave him the longest look, then merely nodded. Kill until it draws the puppet master's attention, simple enough. "Alright. I'll head back then." There probably would have been a good luck somewhere in there if he hadn't heard the distant laughter in the dark.
Picking his way back across the gore-strewn ice, he carefully made his way back to camp. He hoped someone would have the ability to transport some of these corpses to the labs for later, something new would be welcomed after minipets and clones and red eye. It's Christmas, he thought for a wild moment. Red eye, green eye, jesus ******** lights were up at camp, and he turned the torch off once he arrived. Following Melvin's example until someone requested assistance, Jack took to one area of the barrier and began to etch a rune.

Horace's head bobbled up comically at Tommy's words. "T-tommy? ********' gave me a heart-attack!" Light washed over them from his headlamp, turning their skin eerily pale. Horace had met the other trainee a handful of times: over romance books, barging into Hattie's (and, by consequence, Tommy's) room on a whim, so he wasn't sure why he was so surprised to see Tommy here. Tommy and some civilian, from the looks of it. She looked ******** terrfied, but who could blame her? And, he realized, neither of them had flashlights.
He dug into his bag and held out some flashlights. Tiny, keychain lights, but they came with built in batteries. "Take 'em. You heading to the rink?" He started shoving things back into his bag, emptying the now-solid fire gels into a baggie and shoving them in too. "Were you guys alone?" Horace crouched and the boy clambered onto his back. Captain - Horace's name for the kid, since he hadn't spoken a word - was small enough that just walking would be too slow if they had to book it. He'd told the kid about the ice and the nice red-haired man (white lies were acceptable).
"I don't think we should stay in one place for too long, though."

Lukas desummoned his weapon back to the key that jangled loosely at his wrist, took a step toward the hiding civilian and then hesitated -- flicking Cain the briefest look before his eyes resettled on Gretchen, instead. For a moment, he looked faintly annoyed: wondering how he'd ended up in this group. Then it smoothed out, and he smiled at her.
"Want to grab her? I'm concerned I might startle her, you seem a bit more..." Female. But he didn't say that, at least. "...reassuring."

There was a single light at the ice rink, a set of floodlights that someone had rigged up to a generator which was now shining brightly on the melting ice and whirring up a racket. It served mostly to deepen the shadows around it and a few shambling normal infected were inspecting it with something approaching comical confusion. The laughter persisted here, but it was much less feminine in nature.
As Kostya got closer to the area, there was a feeling of being followed for a short time, a few footfalls in time with his own, ceasing if he stopped moving. This went on for a bit before it was judged he was not some baby-carrying infected and Rep stepped out into his path.
"How's fatherhood treating you?" he asked brightly, dripping congealed blood onto the floor and beaming from ear to ear.

Gretchen really didn't want to waste her charge, so she kept hr weapon out, for now. It was a heal, if it would even work, but a maybe heal was better than nothing at all. Besides, there was no telling when or if another of those things was going to find them, and she just felt better have it already in her hand.
She was heading for Lukas and the civilian when he turned to look at her and Cain, and the expression on his face brought on a small, puzzled frown before he was smiling and suggestion she handle their poor, traumatized survivor. "Oh, yeah sure." She wasn't sure how reassuring she really was, but Cain certainly would have been a poor choice for this.
Crouching down beside the rack, she parted the clothing to look in on their civilian, smiling gently at her. "It's gone, yo can come out now. We're going to take you somewhere safe, so you can get out of here and go home, alright?" Cold, trembling fingers closed around the hand Gretchen offered out to her, and she used it to pull the girl out of the rack and up onto her feet. "Alright, just stay with me."
With a soft hum she looked around them, trying to remember if they'd passed a sign for the ice ring. Then the lights went out, plunging them all into darkness, and the girl let out a startled, hopeless little sob. "No no, shhh. It's okay, We need you to quiet down, we don't want to attract anymore attention." She listened, or at least didn't make another noise aside from her heavy breathing. The light from the runes on their weapons wasn't great, but at least she could see where Cain was, and she assumed Lukas wasn't far from him. "Can one of you guys lead the way?"

The ground cracks near one of the barricades and another tentacle, not so different from the one at the fountain emerges near one of the barricades and with the aid of a few different infected, sets about attacking said barriers.
Present Camp HP 40 + 31(fortified) = 71HP
Tentacle HP - 60 NO AUTODAMAGE - it is preoccupied with breaking things
If its not scared off by tomorrow night it will do 30 damage to the camp!
Progress was slow. Kostya carefully balanced going around any zombies in the distance, pausing every now and again to, perhaps, too vigorously bounce the baby in hopes of quieting it. It did not always work, but an alternating pattern of pacifier-bottle-bounce usually led to a few more precious moments of silence.
He was sincerely just not cut out to be a father. Or a caretaker. Of anything, not even a minipet, let alone an actual, breathing, human child.
That much was made obvious as Kostya actually, literally threw the baby in the air at the sight of the creature. High enough in the air to be in transit for a moment, flung nearly up to the second floor, absolutely baffled and actually a little entertained, despite being ready to go down for a nap.
In the meanwhile, Syntax was trained on Rep, right at the head, because it certainly looked like something from BEYOND THE VEIL-- but to his surprise, it spoke.
And was, in fact, extremely Scottish.
"Rep?" Kostya asked, incredulous, right as the baby began its descend back towards this unholy earth.
As well as the cold, hard, grimy and gut-strewn floor.
He hadn't even made it out of camp before the tentacle erupted, throwing Lex onto his back, all the air knocked out of his lungs and Regal out of his hands.
This was not going to be a good time.

Startled, America gazed at Taym in incredulous disbelief. "That's so...that's..." She let him take her hand and tug her along until she snapped out of it and accused him of having a really nice weapon. Fiona was so nice, what the ******** only just started on the fortifications when Suddenly A Tentacle.
"Jesus, wept," she cursed, racing toward the thing just a few steps behind Taym and shooting Cami an understanding look. Mall tentacles.
