☆ ☆【 It seemed Zane’s intervention had come in the nick of time, as it seemed the man Filo had wandered over to started to get a bit defensive and his Torchic began ruffling its feathers in an aggressive manner. Could be that they thought she was a threat, even though from the looks of it the Chikorita was just trying to be friendly. Quickly sweeping her up into his arms before the situation could escalate, he gave her a brief scolding before quickly apologizing to the man for what had happened. The last thing he wanted was to cause potential issues to arise, especially with other strangers who were likely Pokémon trainers too.
Zane gave a sigh of relief as the man assured him that everything was all good, suggesting that at least she hadn’t wandered too far away since small Pokémon could easily get lost even in a town like this. ”Aha, that’s certainly true enough. She’s still pretty fresh out from the lab and whatnot, so I can’t really blame her too much for being curious. Pretty much anything could be interesting if you haven’t really seen much of the outside world before, ja?” If anything, at least she hadn’t gone wandering anywhere outside of the area of town, but it seemed she at least knew well enough to stay at least relatively close.
Leaning down, he gently placed the Chikorita back down on the ground, Filo chirping happily but taking the hint to stay close by. Though she tilted her head inquisitively at the other man’s Mareep that had wiggled it’s way out of his arms and was now sniffing at her, seeming curious about her. Giving an amiable little trill, Filo wagged her stubby tail and wiggled her leaf a little at the Mareep in greeting. ”Hi hi! It’s nice to meet you! You look really soft~” the Chikorita greeted the little sheep Pokémon with a friendly smile, ”My name’s Filo, what’s yours?”
Turning his attention to the man, Zane blinked for a moment at his question that the boy wasn’t from around here, though he seemed to get a bit flustered and corrected himself with a quick apology. ”It’s no problem! But yeah, you’d actually be right that I’m quite new to these parts,” he remarked with a nod and a soft chuckle, ”To be honest, I actually arrived here from Johto not too long ago, but my home region is actually Galar. I was actually trying to get back home but apparently the trains that go out to Galar were, uh… ‘down for maintenance’ last I checked. And this was supposedly the next closest region they could take me to, so here I am.”
He gave a sheepish laugh as he rubbed the back of his neck. ”To be fair, I know almost next to nothing about Hoenn as a whole, so this is all very new to me,” he admitted, giving the man an inquisitive look, ”How about yourself? Are you a local from around here? Or did you travel here from a faraway region too?” Telling from the man’s particular style of dress, it could maybe be assumed that he was actually a native, but Zane didn’t want to jump to conclusions too quickly. Especially since he’d only just met this guy not even a few minutes ago.
”Ah, but where are my manners? I should at least introduce myself first, haha~ My name’s Zane, Zane Esser,” he greeted politely with a respectful nod, holding a hand out to the man to shake, ”A pleasure to make your acquaintance, mister…?” He deliberately left the end of the sentence open for the man to introduce himself back, if he wanted to at least.
While the two trainers conversed, Marzipan hovered close by with a motherly sort of protectiveness, the tall Lopunny’s sharp green eyes watching the stranger with caution and apprehension. It seemed like the man was friendly enough and didn’t pose too much of an immediate potential threat, but she’d remain on guard until she could feel more certain that he was trustworthy. Choux, on the other hand, kept a close eye on the smaller Pokémon nearby, the Indeedee naturally falling into her role as a babysitter type to make sure the little ones stayed safe and prepared to intervene if there was any conflict or if they started to wander off to where they shouldn’t be. 】☆ ☆

So this person was from another region. That made sense, given their clothing and pokemon. “You’ve been to two other regions besides this one?” Said Myth, his voice unknowingly conveying just how impressed he was, “So young and yet so worldly already. That’s a good trait to have, you know.” Myth couldn’t help but feel a smidge jealous. Maybe hightailing it out of Hoenn was a good idea, after all. He’d need funds first, and maybe a job and a place to stay— Among a million other things. Maybe someday.
“Oh, yes. I’m from Hoenn. Not this town, but Hoenn nonetheless. If you need any help getting to a specific place, I’ll be able to help if you need it,” Said Myth. He paused when the other, named Zane apparently, held out his hand. There was no reason not to trust him, so Myth reached out and shook Zane’s hand.
“Myth Odine,” He said, withdrawing his hand afterwards, “It’s nice to meet you.”
Honey, meanwhile, seemed ecstatic to be making a new friend. He wandered about Filo in circles, occasionally letting out a happy bleat. “I’m Honey, I think!” He said, pausing in his circling to wander closer to Filo, “Oh, my wool? It’s very soft! You can touch it, if you’d like! Just be careful not to get shocked!”

☆ ☆【 Zane nodded with a small smile at the man’s curiosity and interest when he’d mentioned being in Johto and Galar, chuckling sheepishly at the mention of him being so worldly at such a young age. ”Aha, I don’t know if I’d put it that way exactly…” he said with a small, bashful smile as he rubbed the back of his neck, a bit flustered at how impressed the other sounded, ”But I guess that wouldn’t be entirely wrong either, Hoenn is certainly quite a leap from Galar after all.” To be fair, he hadn’t even stayed all that long in Johto either, just enough to at least get his new starter Pokémon. A part of him still regretted not being able to properly ask Professor Elm for his help and chickening out at the last minute, at least maybe he could’ve gotten some kind of insight on how to go about trying to reverse his current condition. But, well, he supposed if he really had to try and rough it on his own from here on out, then that’s just how it’d have to be.
Zane couldn’t help but perk up a little at the man mentioning that he was indeed a Hoenn native, and he even offered to help him with getting to where he wanted to go if he needed it. ”Oh, would you really? I could certainly use some help if you’re offering! I mean, I do already have a local map of the region, but I do feel that a guide who knows the area quite well can give a lot more general insight on things.” That and being able to have someone else to accompany him was certainly far from a bad idea, it could be nice to have someone he could call a friend or acquaintance in a place that he didn’t know very well at all. ”Ah… I mean, if you’re absolutely sure. I wouldn’t want to impose too much, we only just met after all…” he quickly added in as he gave a short bow out of respect, not wanting to come off as overly hasty and excited at the prospect of having a potential friend. Or just some friendly company to share while traveling around for a while, at the very least.
If Zane noticed the way the man paused momentarily before returning the handshake, he chose not to comment on it in favor of offering a smile as the stranger introduced himself. ”Myth, hm? Quite an interesting name there~ It’s really nice to meet you too,” he returned easily with a nod, withdrawing his own hand and gesturing towards the path to the west leading out of town. ”I was actually about to start heading out towards Rustboro, which I understand is a bit of a ways away from here, ja?” he commented, tilting his head slightly towards Myth, ”Did you maybe need to grab any extra supplies or whatever here before we hit the road? Either way, I’m ready to get going when you are!” Technically they could probably make a quick stop over in Petalburg too if they really needed to pick up anything, so that was another option to consider. Though Zane was more than patient enough to hang back and stay for a little longer in case Myth had any business here he wanted to take care of first.
Filo chirped happily at being able to make a new potential friend, turning around in place to follow along with Myth’s Mareep as he circled around her. ”Ohhh, Honey is a nice name! I think it really fits you! Are you named that because you’re yellow like honey? Or maybe because you’re so sweet?” she asked curiously, wagging her tail as Honey came a bit closer. The Chikorita’s eyes widened at his offer to touch his wool, mouth open in an ‘O’ of childlike excitement. ”Oh wow, really? I’d love to! And I’ll definitely make sure to be careful, though I don’t think a little shock will hurt me too much! So no worries on that~” It was definitely one of the perks of being a Grass-type, after all!
Padding a bit closer to her new Mareep friend, Filo leaned in and gently nuzzled her head against Honey’s fluffy yellow wool, being at least a little careful as to hopefully not get zapped accidentally. ”Wooooow, it actually is really super soft! And pretty warm too! Almost like a nice fluffy blanket you can wear all the time~” she exclaimed with an excited trill, reaching up and lightly poking at it with one of her little front feet, ”It’s also sorta like a cloud, you know? Like if you could reach up and actually touch a cloud, I wonder if maybe it would feel kinda like this?”】☆ ☆

“It’s hardly any trouble. It sounds like we’re both headed to the same town, anyway,” Said Myth, a patient smile along his features, “Are you thinking of taking up the gym challenge? I’m not sure if I’m going to go all the way yet, but having a few badges is always a convenience.” Being able to fly or swim upon a pokemon made travel easier, and having the respect of stronger pokemon also seemed like it would come in handy.
Shooting a glance over to the pokemart, Myth shook his head and began to wander towards the exit of the town and gestured with his head for Zane to follow. “I don’t need anything else here. We should get moving, though— Traveling at night tends to be a pain in these parts.”
Honey bleated happily at the attention and stomped his front two hooves in an alternating pattern as if it were meant to be a happy dance. “I’ve never touched a cloud, but I would love to! I’ve heard there are some pokemon in this region who look like clouds! I bet they’re fluffy, too!”
“Honey, this way—” Called Myth, prompting the little Mareep to eagerly trot towards the exit after his trainer.

I might have to pay you back the favor sometime~” At the question of if he was thinking of maybe taking on the gym challenge, the boy’s brows knitted slightly and a finger held up to his lips as he seemed to give it some thought. ”Hmmmm… Now that’s a good question. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure yet… I hadn’t exactly intended to come this way particularly in the first place,” he said earnestly, then gave an affirmative nod with a glint of resolve in his eyes, ”But I suppose that since I’m sort of more or less in it for the long haul for the time being, I suppose I might as well for at least a little bit. Having a few badges under their belt never hurt anyone, I’d say.” At the very least, being able to fly on a Pokemon to get where he wanted whenever he wished would certainly be quite handy. He could definitely get back to Galar that way too... And it certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea to be able to strengthen his Pokemon so they could be prepared for any trouble that might find them, remembering all too well how he’d ended up in this weird situation to begin with.
So far, he definitely couldn’t see any possible downsides to taking on a few gyms or so while he was here, at the very least it’d be something else to do and a pretty solid goal to focus on in the meantime aside from hopefully finding some kind of solution. At the question of if he’d need to grab anything at all before they headed out for Petalburg and then to Rustboro from there, Myth didn’t seem to have any need for stopping by the mart and was already heading towards the exit as he confirmed as much and suggested that they get a move on since it could be difficult to travel during the night around here. ”That so?” Zane inquired curiously, moving to follow along and keep pace with his newfound traveling companion, ”I suppose it’s fair, though, all things considered. If we do end up getting caught out somewhere that’s not immediately close to town when night comes, we do have our Pokemon to help us out as needed, ja?” He faintly remembered seeing on the map that one of the areas they’d have to pass through on their way to Rustboro was a forest, which were easy enough to navigate during the day but could turn into an almost impassable maze at night without any sort of light to help guide them. Surely they still had plenty of time between now and when the sun would start setting to get there, but Zane felt pretty confident that he came decently prepared on the off chance they might end up getting stuck somewhere and not able to make it before nightfall.
Gesturing for his Pokemon to come along, Zane fell into step next to his new companion as they headed for the western exit of Oldale and set off properly on the road for Petalburg. ”So if you wouldn’t mind too much, could you tell me a little bit about yourself, Myth?” he asked as he glanced up towards the taller man, trying to make a bit of small talk in hopes that they could get to know each other a little better. It was only natural if they were going to be spending some time in each other’s company, though he made sure to give some leeway so Myth didn’t necessarily have to share anything that might be too personal if he didn’t want to. They were still only just new acquaintances, after all. ”I know you’ve mentioned before that you live here in Hoenn, whereabouts are you from in the region? Like, is it a big city? Small town? Or maybe somewhere that’s a little more… out there?”
Filo smiled at the Honey’s little happy dance, joining in on the merriment as she bounced joyfully on her feet and twirled her leaf about. Her eyes brightened all the more at the mention of there being other Pokemon that lived in the region that also looked like clouds. ”Oooo, do you think so? I’d like to be able to see them if we come across any! Though I don’t think all of them might be as friendly as you,” she chirped, moving to follow after her own trainer at his prompting and to keep up with her new potential friend. Already she could feel that eagerness and excitement at finally moving on to a new area, but she also wanted to get to know a little more about her new Mareep friend too!
”Oh, oh! How long have you known your trainer for so far, Honey? Are they pretty nice? How about your teammates?” Myth certainly seemed friendly enough so far just from first impressions and from the bits and pieces she could vaguely catch of his and Zane’s conversations while she’d been playing around with Honey, though a lot about him was still a mystery. And the Chikorita still faintly wondered about the man's rather... interesting choice of fashion, especially since it didn't seem like anyone else they'd seen walked around dressed up like that, so far at least… But she chose not to ask that particular question aloud since she wasn’t sure if it would be rude or not. Everything was still so new and interesting, it was honestly a little overwhelming at times, but it didn’t make the little Grass-type any less excited to be able to learn and explore more throughout this journey! 】☆ ☆
