He felt his chakra drain away, but there was still some left. Shinichi frowned and sat on the best grass in the world, waiting as his chakra began to slowly renew itself. At least with the pushups, he stood a chance, but this was one of his major weaknesses. The boy picked at some flowers as his mind floated back to the events of the last 3 years.

Shinichi sighed as his chakra still had not been replenished. At least there was one benefit to having low chakra, that is, that he would not have to rest as long. Still, it seemed like a waste of time, even though reason told him it was for the better.

"Here we are. These plains are a great practice area for learning this technique," Koro told Amai as he walked out into the plains. It was a great day out, almost like every day in Kusagakure. "Have you ever done any technique with an element before?" Koro asked the woman firstly as he found a good spot to stop and practice.

Okay then, he had no choice but to try and try again, no matter how long it took. Shinichi got his chakra flowing and made the sign of the hare, a symbol for luck. This could have easily been a curse, but a shinobi had to take some risks sometimes, didn't he? The boy sighed, thoughts moving forwards towards his new genin squad. None of the judges had left any mention of his teammates or sensei, save for that woman who wanted him in his team. Something still bothered him, the fact that Aya might not be in his team. Was that necessarily a bad thing? Yes. As always, she was the luckiest of all.

And then there was him, whose skills were so unbalanced that it was so much more of a disadvantage to have those unbalances than the advantages of his stronger skills could match. What? Shinichi rubbed his temples and took a seat on the grass, firmly deciding that he would also have to grow smarter as well. The last time he and Aya had played that string game, she always had the upperhand, while he was messing up much more than was acceptable! There was little doubt in his mind that she had improved much since then, but what about him?

Due to the fact that his chakra was pathetically low and inefficient, Shinichi unwillingly ruled out the possibility of him ever having a high level of ninjutsu. Yes, he could perform some with pure, hard training in chakra, but the boy felt so much more comfortable with taijutsu, and maybe even genjutsu. Maybe.

Alright, it was time to try again. Shinichi bounded to his feet and made the sign of the dragon, for its sheer power. That was the purpose of ninjutsu, after all, to hit the enemy with as much damaging chakra energy as possible. He closed his eyes, breathing relaxed as Koro-sensei had taught. Shinichi released his tiny chakra amount into the grass below and wondered if that was why the Great Plains always smelled so good.

Grr, he had not even wasted half of his chakra during that try. Shinichi scowled and leaned backwards until his bottom landed softly just above the dirt. At least he wouldn't have to rest as long, seeing as there was not much chakra to replenish. The wait would be boring, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Shinichi rose and did the sign of the horse, a symbol representing hard work. As a member of the Harada clan, he of all people had memorised the different hand seals and what they meant in differing contexts. It never occurred to him until now that some of the wild horses were quit recalcitrant and lazy, most definitely not representing the perseverance that humans thought they represented. Shinichi held still, then forcefully pushed his chakra out of his veins.

((I didn't even need to rest for the one before, so cross apply the resting posts.))

He pushed himself easily off the ground and prepared to try again. Perhaps the False Kage had taught him chakra flow so poorly that he was at a disadvantage to the rest of the genin. No, that couldn't be it and Shinichi was ashamed that he even thought of something like that. He made a seal, then tried to burn out his chakra again.

Yes! Shinichi swayed slightly in his place, astonished at how much his energy had seeped. Imagine how much more tired he would feel when actually performing ninjutst. He plopped down on the grass and crossed his arms behind his head. It was going to be a long wait anyway, so why strain his body further? Shinichi rubbed his bicep, reflecting over the three years he had spent at the Academy.

It was true, he had gotten stronger, both physically and mentally. He had greatly improved his agility, as well as trained up until his muscles could handle the strain of pushing a heavy door off some mud. Granted that Aya had helped him the first time (she was so strong!), he had made the wise decision to come back and do it himself. It had taken a few tries, but his work was successful in the end and Shinichi had gotten much stronger.

His chakra was almost back now, but so was the time that he had to meet his new genin squad and jounin-sensei. Shinichi pondered who would be in his class. There were rumours that the Kusakage-sama had tried to balance out the classes, but he personally didn't think she could do something like that with the minimal contact that she had with the students. Well, he had met her a few times, but not enough for her to do much but teach him the Palm Jutsus. Maybe Koro-sensei had submitted his report on the abilities of his students then. Maybe.

Well, it was getting late and he could always do this later. Shinichi frowned at his pathetic chakra and walked out of the aromatic plains, thoughts of the future and the genin squad and sensei occupying his mind.

"Awwww, I'm so tired," Tomo said as she fell into the grass. The festival last night had really worn her out. So much had happened in such little time. It felt she hadn't gone to sleep all night. She feared what torture her students would be going through today. When she was sleepy, she was extra loopy and cranky. Hopefully none of them would die from training today. "I'm going to take attendance!" She yelled really loud up into the air. She didn't know if any of her students were even here yet.
