So... just found out Deadpool is the gonna be the antagonist in the new Wolverine movie.

Thoughts?

Uhh... Is Silver Samurai not the antagonist for this one? There has literally been no mention of Deadpool except for that Origins movie which I just pretend never happened.

Silver Samurai, Shingen Yashida, and Viper are supposed to be the main antagonists in this one.

I'll be honest, from what I've seen of the previews, the Silver Samurai armor looks ridiculously stupid here.

IMO, Deadpool is insanely overrated and overused and very few writers actually write him well(the absolute worst of which being Daniel Way).

Someone mentioned Deadpool being the antagonist to me, I got confused, but he's big into Marvel and what not so I took his word for it.

You probably misunderstood, Aeon, but idk.

And I'd agree to an extent that Deadpool tends to be written like s**t. When they just have him as this cartoony character that they think is funny but isn't really (like that time he made a massive pile of pancakes), I can't stand to read him. still, some writers do have him shine with some actual human qualities and redeeming morals, like at the end of the last X-Force run with Apocalypse (which was written by Remender)

Also also"Anybody read X-Men #1 yet? You see that s**t with Psylocke and the all-psychic bow and arrow deal? b***h be stealing my s**t. The psy-arrow thing is MINE.

I don't mind Deadpool being cartoonish, as long as it's actually funny. I like to think of Deadpool as Marvel's answer to Lobo or Ambush Bug, in that they can work as cartoon characters in a universe mostly grounded in reality(debatable but still). It's just unfortunate that most of Deadpool's recent stuff has been written or at least had some input by Daniel Way in it, because he tends to write Deadpool like Andy d**k or Jamie Kennedy with a gun, in that it's so unfunny that it just makes you sad instead. Then there's the huge continuity mess Daniel Way did with his Deadpool books that's pretty much indicative of everything he touches ever(like all the angel crap in his Ghost Rider run, although I actually mostly enjoyed his Ghost Rider run to my shock and horror).

I honestly think Brian Posehn's and Gerry Duggan's recent run on Deadpool is some of the best Deadpool stuff I've read in years, with very few jokes that don't work in it. Not anywhere near as good as Cable and Deadpool, but how many books can claim to be that awesome anyway?

Agreed with Deadpool. He can work well, but he needs to be written well. X-Force was one of the better examples IMO.

And with the Silver Samurai armor thing in The Wolverine, I honestly hope it has something to do with the Days of Future Past film. I feel like it would make sense to have this as a future possibility or derivative of the Sentinel program. That's just me, and I'm merely speculating. I do think it does look ridiculous, I just hope that in the film it has better context.

Aside from that, my interest in the film is still piqued.

I argue that point with the same argument I made against the Green Goblin costume in the first Raimi Spider-Man movie: They could give it every single bit of context possible in the world, it still looks incredibly stupid beyond reason.

The argument holds for most characters. A great writer is going to do great things. Deadpool is a great character but one that HAS to be written well... or it's cliche and a joke of a joke.... which is never a good joke.

I'm hoping at some point this summer I can jump back into reading comics... once June stop bleeding my bank account. What books are worth getting into right now?

I'm kind of in love with Cable and X-force right now, tbh.

Hawkeye

I can safely say this is absolutely Matt Fraction's best work yet. It's like the most awesome mix of slice of life and spy comics, and the art is very reminiscent of Jim Steranko's work on Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America.

Cable and X-Force is awesome, even if it's by the same writer as Avengers Arena, whom I want to personally kill in the most brutal way possible.

Rick Remender and John Romita Jr.'s current run on Captain America is an instant classic.

The mutant books in general are kinda hit and miss right now. Uncanny Avengers is okay. All New X-Men is great. Uncanny X-Men is okay if you can get past Cyclops's status as the new Magneto(personally, I like the underground direction he's taken his team and the whole revolution aspect is kinda cool) and Magik's sword being the silliest looking thing in the world. Wolverine and the X-Men continues to be the absolute best thing to happen to the X-Men in ******** years.
