"Por que,Maria?" he whined, reluctantly switching to Spanish. He hardly ever used the language now, since Hollywood wasn't frequented by many Spanish actors except during AMAs and Oscars, but he did at least remember how to speak it. And use it he did, if only to avoid his sister's wrath.
His former protector had neglected to answer either one of his questions, so he asked them again in Spanish. "Como estas? Y cuando me regalas Baja California?" He smirked again when he repeated his query about Baja. "And be mad at Texas, not me, sis," he admonished. "He declared independence way before New Mex and Neva and Ari and I ever left." Then, remembering once again that Maria would likely refuse to answer him if he didn't say those in Spanish, he repeated himself... Again. "Te enojas a Tejas, no a mi. Es su culpa; no es mia."
He turned when he heard two European students comment on the strangeness of having states in their classes. He pouted at the subtle blow to his youth. "We're not that young! Antonio raised us first as colonies. We're old enough, and we have every right to be here."
He realized after a moment that he had once again spoke without thinking carefully. Blinking, he changed his tune. "I'm Landon, from California, and this is my Florida brother, Rutilio.And you two are?" he asked, holding out a hand.

And why should I leave America?” he asked. “As I recall, Alfred let some troops in, and you never moved to push them out. Texas’ dummy shots at the Río Grande and your subsequent thrashing in 1848 proved to us that America was a far stronger country to be in.” The Californian remembered well how American captains Frémont and Sloat had both overwhelmed María’s dwindling forces under Captain Castro and blocked San Francisco off from aid. But neither had commanded a very large force, and she put up none to throw them out. As a result, Landon had been very willing to lend his gold to Alfred, although he had sent some back to Mexi as a courtesy.
“What I wonder,” he added, “is how come you never reinforced your troops in my state. Why not?”

The Rebellious Sophomore Luz Maria's eye twitched. She'll just pretend Landon didn't say that first sentance. "because I was blocked off, that's why. Also, we had some issues going on in my homeland. Stuff like poverty and disease... Look, can we not talk about the past? I just want to forget all that." she went back to writing notes. Too bad there wasn't a chemistry lesson, she wanted something to distract herself from her former brother. Seeing him and her other states brought back painful memories of betrayal. “Fine, have it your way.” Noting that the two curious Europeans and even his brother had ignored him, the surfing master huffed and sat down at an empty desk, reluctantly pulling out a pencil and his notebooks. When the teacher finally replaced his frown with a sigh of relief, he flashed a cheeky grin at his back before writing whatever it was he had scrawled all over the board.
Within minutes, he was bored. The third page of his notes had started to take on a rather aquatic look, which arguably was still on task, since the teacher had just written up the water cycle.

Finally, the Europeans answered him. They were a little late in doing so, but it was a welcome distraction. "Estonia and Lithuania? Where's that?" Landon asked blankly, looking first at the one who'd introduced himself as Toris before shifting his gaze to Eduard. "Really? What was it like working for Alfred?" The Californian was sorely tempted to ask if America was a better boss than Russia. He must be, right? After all, there had been some nasty rumors before that Russia had been a dictatorial Communist.

☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀ Rutilio felt like he'd just been blindsided. The Floridian had just been in the process of returning the hug and greeting California when suddenly everything erupted into an argument with Mexico. He could only stand by helplessly and try to squeak in a word edgewise, but everything was happening so fast! Before Rutilio could even get a word in California was already sulking at his desk. Landon always seemed to be moving at a much faster pace than the Floridian.
"..... H-Hola, Maria~! Como estas?" Rutilio chirped brightly with a slightly nervous smile considering the little spat that had just occurred between her and the younger state. Still, that was no reason for him not to be polite to her, right?
