Setting the table... That wasn't hard. Despite their house staff, his parents had decided not to make spoiled brats of their sons, so they had all had chores. One of which had been setting the table, though it was a lot less formal than what Ms. Winter was asking of them, but Mother had taught them how to set a more formal setting.

He walked over to the ghoul he had been paired with, Sarias and smiled a bit. He'd not met her before.

"I should be able to set the table. I know something about setting a table," he said with a small nod. That said, he reached for a plate, going about setting the tablespace.

Which went well, up until he got to the glasses. He never set for wine. Alcohol wasn't a common thing in his family, not during meals. Hard drinks were for after-dinner. So, he placed them on the table in positions that he thought were the most logical.

"I... hope that's right? What do you think?" he asked, giving his partner a nervous glance.

Sarias had only been half listening to what the boil was saying. She had no need to eat in her natural state and being forced into this body had not warranted her to know how to set the table. So if anything she was more than a little out of her depth.

Watching him busy away at the setting she pondered over his upbringing. Obviously a slave of some sort the way he knew how to place everything so neatly, she was more than a little impressed by the finishing display.

"I think that looks....right?"
She questioned, she had no idea, her meal times consisted of a gruel developed by the kitchen staff for ghosts like her. A product that had as little nutrients as a cardboard box but from what she had been told it would sustain her in this form.

She listened to his question upon the wine setting. Ah, this was something she knew off. Alcohol. A delectable substance that she had only been introduced to upon entering the academy but already it was becoming a good friend. "well" she pondered as he placed it near the water goblet to the right side of the plate. She mulled over this placing and with the one and only act of support towards the project she moved them, an inch or two towards the plates.

"...what? Not as much effort to reach for them now. And we want who ever is sitting at our setting to feel like hard strenuous, reaching for a drink, work is the last thing on their mind."

Ms.Winter had disappeared during the time that the students had been preparing their place settings. Though the apparition and the pygmy fox had both remained behind to keep an eye on things in her absence. However, as the students slowly finished up with their task, the professor made a re-entrance, and began walked over to each pair, to inspect their work.

Her first stop was to Ren and Holly's setting. She looked between them, then to the setting. A notebook appeared in one hand, and a long, feathered quill in the other. She marked something down on it, before looking back up and speaking.

"Your setting is just lovely, you both pass." she remarked, clearly impressed with her first stop. "You both may take a seat now. Thank you."

Moving on, she stopped at Jericho and Collette's setting. She eyed it for a few moments, clearly picking something apart in her head. Her eyes shot up to the dragon and the reaper. "You are very close, the only thing I would change is..." Winter reached down and moved the dessert fork over with the other two, the glasses to the other side. "Other than those minor changes, you both did a lovely job. You both pass. Please feel free to take a seat." Two groups down, 11 more to go. So far so good at least.

Next on her list was Bartholomew & Obsidian. Much like the first group, she had no issues with their setting. It was slightly varied, but there were a handful of acceptable ways to set a table, this was just a slight alteration on her own preferred method. "This is wonderful, you may both take a seat. You've passed."

It was clear seeing this many students passing had changed the usually neutral mood the professor seemed to generally throw off. There was a slight touch of a smile on her lips.

And then.

She heard Charlie calling across for his A. Peering over towards the pink haired demon, her eyes happened to pass over Riley's face planted solidly into the table. It didn't take long to figure out why either. A tiny top hat was placed on the ilithid's head. That line led her to ... several... little top hats sitting on utensil's. It almost broke her heart to see that Charlie truly believed he'd done well. Stifling a sigh, she simply walked over and smiled to the demon boil, "That is... most interesting Charlie. Unique... even." she then turned to Riley, and spoke quietly. "I am more than assured that you had little to do with this, so try not to concern youself too much." she looked back at Charlie "You may take a seat."

Little Wolf and Maladore were next on the professor's list. Their setting was another slight variation on her own preference, choosing to place the forks on the napkin instead of the napkin to the side. "You both pass, if you would both please take a seat until we are ready to continue on?"

Calder and Junko setting seemed to have... some clutter around it, but it appeared to be mostly salvaged. Though it was nothing what she would have expected. It was more than acceptable, of course. A lovely place setting for a more foreign style. She'd not specified which style to set the table, so she would not folly either student for this. "This is an interesting setting, you both pass."

Merope and Alessa weren't too far passed the the last pair. The leviathan seemed more than impressed with himself. Looking down at the place setting, she tapped her paper, then looked at them both. "Well, there are a few things I would change about this, not everything is required to be stacked up in this manner... here." she pulled the bread plate out of Merope's plate stack, and placed it to the preferred location. "Move the bread knife to the bread plate here..." she spoke carefully as the utensil was moved about, "and the water goblet paired with the other two..." she looked at it. Much better. "While it needed some changes, you both pass." she offered before motioning for the pair to take their seats.

Shekh and Livius were next, and as it was expected, given the caliber of demon that Livius appeared to be, their setting was more than satisfactory. Marking more in her notebook, she simply smiled,"You both pass, please take a seat."

Gabrian and Natalia were another pair with a perfect place setting. It seemed that, perhaps, more than not, there were some students in this school with a hand firmly placed around a modicum of elegance. "This looks lovely you two. A pass I'm sure. Please take a seat until I'm finished with the others."

Making her way, and getting ever so much closer to the end of the groups, she came across the blue skinned Myr and his partner Kasumi. Myr seemed to have taken over their little setting, and it appeared to be up to par. No tweaks were needed. Nodding to them both, "A pass. You two did a wonderful job. If you would both take to your seats again, please? We're almost done here."

Next up on her list were the two undead she'd paired together... but something told her she should wait on that, so she moved on to Hadiyya and Christof instead. The hunchback and Djinn, no surprise there, had created another adequate place setting. Though it was becoming apparent that perhaps some lessons in napkin folding may be necessary down the road... alas, there were far too many other things to go over to consider that too much. "Lovely job Hadiyya, Christof. You both will receive passing grades, please take a seat."

Julian and Sarias were another pair with one of the many variations of a proper setting. She was completely satisfied with their method. "A lovely job, Julian, Sarias. Please take a seat while I finish off with the last pair, please." she marked something else in her notes, before lifting her eyes towards the last pair.

Amirta and Aymet seemed more than a little engrossed with ... whatever it was... they were doing. The professor cautiously made her way over to them, and her eyes widened at what she saw. Apparently Charlie was not going to top the list of 'what the jack is this?'. No, he had hefty competition from the undead pair. The professor just stared quietly for a few moments as her ears burned with the commentary they were making. It was a water covered disaster area. This.. this would just not do. No. "Amirta, Aymet. Take a seat. now."

"Class, you have ten minutes of free time while I find someone to clean up this mess. Please don't leave your seats.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 01, 2011 6:42 pm

Seeing how it was time for the judge to come around and see how they did, Jericho crossed his arms as the professor began to make her rounds. When it came time for their set to be looked over, he narrowed his eyes some as he anticipated her verdict. To his surprise, she didn't tear them apart. It seemed he had a few mistakes, but he got it done, which was the key point for him.

Nodding to Colette, he went on back towards his seat, pausing for the moment to see Ms. Winter look over a few of the other sets. She didn't seem too happy about Riley's set....but then again neither did the Illithid. Shaking his head to himself, he plopped himself into his chair, shifting his wings a bit in the process.

It seemed a majority of the students received a passing grade for this little task. The only other group she seemed displeased with was with the dracolich and Amrita. She didn't even give them any feedback!

"Oooh," Merope breathed as Alessa corrected their place settings, "I think I see, but in all honestly it still also boggles my mind." He scratched the back of his head as he spoke, staring at the corrected plates. It was then that the rukus caused by Aymet and Amrita caught his attention. He watched them, feeling a pang of envy. It looked like they were having so much fun! He wanted to glance at Alessa to see if she would be interested in doing something like that, but he stopped himself. He didn't think she would be.

He blinked and stared at the place setting as the teacher came by. Wait. Didn't Alessa fix it? Or -- he avoided looking at his partner, and avoided whistling an innocent tune. He couldn't help it if he liked stacking things. Thankfully they passed, but even then he still didn't look at his former-partner.

Instead, he waited until Ms. Winters was out of the room before glancing over to Aymet. He then looked down the table at the rest of the class before reaching into his shirt, concentrating. There was a riiiiip and a POP! before Merope held one of his arms in his other arm, the now detached limb wiggling its fingers as he held it up and across the table to his partner in crime. "Aymet!" He hissed, "HIGHFIVE!"

They had done well! Malodore offered LittleWolfe a smile. "It seems as long as we make an attempt at decorum, all shall be well," it said with a pleased nod. It noted the differences in all the plates presented - for the most part, it seemed as long as the organization was logical...

... oh. Oh dear. What had happened to Riley's plates? Were those... tiny hats? What. The plague doctor was fortunate that its facial construction gave it a naturally excellent poker face.

LW was...shocked. She and Malodore had done a good job? Wow. That made her shoulders lose the tension in them as she waited for Ms. Winters to look over their arrangement. After she moved on, the she-wolf turned to her partner and gave him a big grin. "Guess we do know something about setting a table then." Behind her, that big red tail of hers flicked back and forth.

She glanced around at the other arrangements. From where she was, it looked like Ren's setting was just right. That shouldn't have surprised her at all. Leaning a little, she glanced towards Natalia and Gabe. Seemed they had done well too. LW gave her were friend a smiled and a wave that meant good job!

Looking around some more her eyes halted on a particular setting. Were those top hats?! Where her partner pulled off the best poker face she had seen, LW's expression was one of surprise and slight amusement. She coughed to cover up any laugh that might of tried to escape and as she moved on from looking at the top hats, she saw the setting that Ms. Winters was currently not happy with. The she-wolf easily sat herself in her seat after giving Malodore an amused look that quickly turned blinking as she stared at the one undead. What was it with them and pulling their limbs off? Was that how undead rolled or something?

((Sorry guys, started a new job last Wednesday that's been eating up a fairly significant portion of my time =seeing that I was not working previously 8D= Also waiting on something to be finished up... so I'm going to have to shift some of the stuff in the modules I had planned, around, until it's ready to get this rolling out properly once more. I apologize for the delay

Anyways, ON WITH ZE CLASS LOLOLOL)).

Winter returned with what appeared to be an old, grizzled gnome, who looked like he'd rather be anywhere than in that room. Then again, if one cared to note, it would appear as though Ms. Winters would prefer for the gnome to be anywhere but in her room as well. At least they shared a mutual feeling on the subject at hand.

Regardless of how she may or may not have felt, however, the finishing class professor thanked 'Gedding' for his assistance, and motioned with her hand towards the mess that Amirita and Aymet had made with their... special little place setting. The gnome looked over and grunted something in response, which provoked a look of sheer repulsion from the demon. It was becoming painfully apparent that having Aymet in her class was going to be a source of constant pains resulting in many interruptions. While she'd never remove him from the class (he was clearly in dire need of the class) she considered for a moment speaking with Red on what sort of a punishment could be used to properly make up for the dracoliches problem making... which was now infecting other students.

The gnome made his way off and began to clean, while Ms.Winters made her way back over to the group of students.

"I apologize for the wait, Amirita, Aymet, I would like to see you both when class is over. For now, lets move onto our next task shall we?" Winter took her seat at the head of the table and pulled out her notebook, flipping it open and running her finger along the page. She seemed to find whatever it was that she was searching for, as a smile broadened across her face. Closing the book, she addressed the class.

"It would appear that the majority of you are quite astute with laying out a proper table setting. I'm very thrilled to see this. For those of you who had some difficulties, do not concern yourself, it is something you will become familiar with over our time together. Now. This is an important move over to our next task. While it's not what I had originally planned, with Scarentine's day coming up, I believe allowances should be made." she paused.

"Just a word to the wise, though, when setting a table, and you become uncertain. It's best to drink to the right, and eat to the left." her pygmy fox hopped up onto her lap and she gently stroked the creature behind his ears.

A rumbling from the back towards the dance floor began, and the professor continued to speak, "As I was saying, Scarentine's day is coming up, and I've no doubt that some of you preparing for the upcoming dance. The question I'm going to pose to you all, is do you know how to appropriately dress." the pygmy fox seemed to regard the class for a moment... was it... smirking? It quickly became apparent as to why.

From the back area marched several maneatkins.

There were nearly the same number of maneatkins as there were students. A quick headcount would prove that there was one missing. Winter looked over from her seat and sighed, giving a slight wave of her hand as the maneatkins stepped aside from one another...

revealing a large, and... gassy? looking wardrobe. It only took a moment to realize what had happened as Winter gave it a quick command to "drop it", resulting in a male maneatkin being spat out. The maneatkin quickly got to it's feet before the lot of them separated further, each striking it's general pose.

"We're going to play a little game, class. I will be partnering you each up randomly once more. For this you will each be designing what you believe would be appropriate outfit for a formal event, such as a dance, for your partner. A task like this tends to reveal some of how people view certain cultures and classes. It's quite remarkable what something as simple as a piece of cloth can tell someone..." she paused.

"Once you receive you, you will be separated until your task is complete, and from there... well, I do love surprises, so I won't ruin it for you. You may go to the wardrobe for your supplies, it will have everything your little hearts desire to complete this task. Good luck, and here are your partners."

Partners and Instructions

Each student receives a piece of paper with their partners name on it in front of them.

.: PARTNERS :.

Aymet & Shekh
Merope & Riley
Calder & Alessa
Livius & Junko
Charlie & Kasumi
Gabrian & Obsidian
Ren & Amirita
Christof & Natalia
Maladore & Little Wolf
Julian & Holly
Jericho & Sarias

===

Each partner will set up an outfit for their partner on one of the maneatkins.

Female Maneatkin
Male Maneatkin

(I don't care what method you use for placing outfits on them.. if you need assistance that's fine, feel free to ask).

====

Everything you need will be found in the wardrobe (consider it like a hammerspace for clothing).

However when you reach in you will need to pull out things, you are required to roll a singular 100 sided dice.

Results of dice roll :

1-10 : The wardrobe does not like your outfit, and sucks you in. It spits you back out wearing some sort of sequinned ballgown. MUCH BETTER.

11-90 : The wardrobe leaves you be.

91-100 : The wardrobe is bored, and sucks you in, spitting you out looking like a reject from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

======

Once you complete the outfit, and post it (this requires two posts at minimum... one for pulling clothing out of the wardrobe, and one for posting your maneatkin results), you will be required to roll another 100 sided dice

Dice Results

1-15: The maneatkin does not like the outfit, and rips off a piece of it... is it glaring at you? Is that possible?

16-85 : Nothing, your maneatkin stands still and leaves you be.

86-100 : Your maneatkin is nervous about it's outfit, and spins around, whacking you with it's arm. No damage, but owwww.

Please have your results posted by Friday!

Sarias read the piece of paper now nestled in the palm of her hand. "Jericho? Jer..ic...ho?" She peered over at the dragon, his whole demeanour screamed makeover, nothing a sharp shovel wouldn't solve but now was not the time. So something that would bring out the best in him huh? Sarias doubted she could do that with what the wardrobe had to offer, or the time. She didn't work in miracles. But this was a class assignment, and what ever she did, she did it dam well. Passport riding on this if you please. He would be the sexist thing on two wings by the end of the class.

Stepping up to the wardrobe (and luckily she was at the front of the queue so first dibs on anything in there! Didn't matter that that wasn't the case!) A little well aimed poke when the doors wouldn't open at first and she was cooking. It was like a step in closet, rows and rows of items, accessories, clothes, suits, dresses. Her eyes widened in anticipation. This....this would be fun.

Grabbing armfuls of cloth, shirts, shoes, anything she could carry in those spindly arms, dam even a few skirts were caught up in the blur that was Sarias. Her upper body now covered from view she made her way to a clear area of space on the dance floor, dropping everything in a heap. She would sort through it later, first she needed that maneatkin.

"Oy, object! Come here." She raised a bony hand and snapped a finger in the direction of the maneakins, it was lucky that she did, she could have been speaking to any of the students in the room! With a twist born of being ordered around one of the tall maneakins made their way over to her space, quickly returning to its original pose, if a bit more reluctant than before. "Equipment, DON'T...give me attitude." It was more of a dare than a threat but the maneatkin behaved anyway, standing still while Sarias went to work. Her eyes wandering over to Jericho every once in a while, accompanied with much tutting and head shaking.

With maneatin in place Sarias set to work with relative ease, stripping cloth where it was needed, pinning accessories together, she had a real knack for this. Surprising for when looking at her own attire, it consisted of little more than a ripped bed sheet, the old clichés always suited her best.

While Jericho may have been getting on with his own outfit Sarias had no time to speak to him, to see what his style was, his taste. She didn’t care, he looked a mess in a tee-shirt and pants and she wasn’t about to have him ruining her ideas with his own. He would just have to see what style was the hard way. End of.

It was few more minutes of straightening the cloth out, a sketchy moment when the crotch fell to pieces but finally Sarias had finished her creation. Standing back she admired her work. Not bad…not bad at all” she stated overly pleased with herself, hands on hips with a smug grin on her face as she looked at the others still working with their sub-standard outfits.

User Image

She waited briefly, she knew she had done well, but if the stupid pig headed maneatkin had anything to say she was sure it would let her know…yet…it didn’t! “Haha! Even this ridiculous contraption thinks my outfit is perfect! Well done maneatkin, saved from being firewood for another night!”

The maneatkin was less than please for that statement but stood rock still none the less, there would be time to get her to change her tune…

Malodore was fascinated by the maneatkins - they moved! Were they biological or magical in nature? Did they have skeletal structure and/or musculature? Oh, how it longed to lay one out on the examination table...

... but, sadly, this wasn't Nurse Cricket's class. Faintly disappointed, the plague doctor shook its head, then opened its beak in a smile for Little-Wolfe's benefit. "It seems we are partnered once more," it said. "I admit, I am not terribly practiced in fashion design, but I shall do my best!"

That said, it approached the wardrobe and began searching through it for just the right items. A few things caught its eye right away, and it carried back a small bundle to its maneatkin.

They had passed the table setting! Colette was pleased and thankful for her partner, giving a small wave upon departing back to her seat. If it weren't for him setting up the table, she wasn't sure if it would go as well as it had.

When they appeared, she looked at the maneatkins shyly because she couldn't help but wonder if she should look away. They were in nothing but undergarments; you weren't supposed to see undergarments! The wardrobe hadn't made her feel any more confident either. It wouldn't eat her, would it? After all, it had tried to make a good snack out of one of the maneatkins.

Colette took a good look at her partner, Myr, figuring that the assignment might actually be easy. There was only one thing she figured all boils wore to formal situations: a suit. Before making her way to the wardrobe to brave an attempt at finding some clothing, Colette stopped and said to Myr, "I'll try my best, but I'm sorry if it's bad or something.." She didn't dabble in fashion besides trying to look suitable herself.

The Reaper reluctantly reached into the wardrobe in search of articles of the proper clothing and came out with a handful and no dent from the furniture! A sigh of relief escaped her breath as she left to start on the maneatkin.

LW was just...staring. Those...what the Jack were those things? They were kind of creepy. And amusing at the same time. So...she had to dress one of those things? That...sort of horrified her. She had never had dolls to play dress up with as a pup. Not her thing. And now she had a life size...thing to dress up.

Her tail swished back and forth as she eyed the things. And then glanced to see who her partner was. Oh! A big grin was given in return to Malodore's smile. "Guess we are." She giggled at...it. That was safe. "Well, that makes two of us. I promise to do my best though!"

Cautiously, LW made her way towards the wardrobe, eying the maneatkins nearby. This was going to be interesting. At least the wardrobe seemed to be leaving her be. That was a good start, right? The she-wolf pawed through the choices, picking at a few things that caught her eye and trying to keep her brother, Nightstalker, in mind. He'd always been the best dresser. A few more things thrown over her arm and the she-wolf walked back to the table to sort out what she had to work with.

For a moment or so, Jericho watched Sarias gather up some materials and begin setting up her meatakin. While she went on to do that, he went to the wardrobe himself to fetch a few things. He didn't have much of an idea of how to go about this, so he just grabbed a few different things, then headed on over towards a free meatakin.

Before attempting to dress it, he glanced over at Sarias's work and frowned at what he saw. She wanted him to wear that? He didn't really want to put that on...

The dragon made a note to try and get her to change a few things once he finished working with his meatakin.

Hmm, so Barth was her partner? Normally, that might have been cause for alarm, but she didn't have to actually work -with- the sloth demon in this case, so his obvious aversion to working, moving, everything wouldn't be an issue, at least for her. For now. Hopefully..

For her part, Hadiyya already had an idea in mind for her maneatkin. Formal wear from her collective cultures was relatively the same, so she would draw from that in her creation.

Tapping her chin, the djinn went to the wardrobe to gather up supplies and garments. It hissed at her wearily, but she ignored it and opened the doors, rummaging about in endless plethora of things within.
