Until there is a scientific explanation for how that happens, I'm unable to believe it's anything more than mass coincidence. Regardless of evidence, I just can't force myself to believe anything that sounds so...supernatural. ( There's a trope for that.) On a more relevant note, it stopped. I just wish that still meant something. sad

Scientists think it has to do with pheromones, they just haven't proven it yet. Quote: Scientists at the Sonoma State Hospital Brain Behavior Research Center in California identified several women who were believed to be menstrual pacesetters--they made other women conform to their cycles. The scientists placed cotton pads under the dominant women's arms for a day, and then wiped the pads on the upper lips of five female subjects three times a week. Within five months, four of the recipients were menstruating at the same time as their donors. They did the same thing with men. Collected the sweat of a man and made women smell it then their cycles became more regular. This one seems much more simple. If you're a female and you smell a guy around all the time, your body is gonna be like "A mate! Let's sort out all this baby making stuff!"

Shiori Miko My mom and I always get our periods within days of each other. Same with me and my mom....though it's starting to deviate more since she's going through menopause.

Shiori Miko cave_dweller_candy Quote: A study of 135 residents of a women's college dorm confirmed the effect. Most of the cycle shifting occurred within the first four months and was usually complete after seven months. Fortunately for the dorm's plumbing, the whole building didn't synchronize, just roommates and close friends. Okay, I did not know that happens.. You didn't? My mom and I always get our periods within days of each other. Nope And that doesn't happen with me neutral

Oh! A note to all you females! (check in white) (Don't be offended I beg you. Purely saying this for piece of mind): The hymen doesn't need to be broken in the case of first-time intercourse. One can properly train the hymen to stretch properly instead of forcing a particular something into it and causing it to tear, bleed, become more likely to suffer from infections, and/or cause possible permanent damage. It does not need to be broken. It is not on the inside. That is all. [/has a lot of female friends who worried about that with their partners. Namely 7 in RL. >o>;]

Luckily two of them had already moved out by the time I hit puberty or my dad would've had to deal with 6 females all menstruating within the same week. xd

It hasn't happened in my family, and there are three females here. Makes it awfully hard for vacations, though.

There's quite a lot of females actually who think it's some weird garb of flesh that needs to be broken to allow intercourse. Truth is, it's that odd membrane-like flesh surrounding the outside of said hole intended for intercourse. They come in a lot of different shapes.o3o HYMENS ARE LIKE SNOWFLAKES.

The study that was done actually showed that their periods shifted by a few days towards each other.
They did not completely synchronize, and when they did, it was very rare. And no other study shown after this has shown the same phenomenon.
So yes, pheremones have an effect on the schedule of women's periods, and yes, periods do shift -slightly- based on the presence of other women living in close proximity.
But completely synchronization? Absolutely not.
