Ulani nodded and motioned towards the hallway. "Then come. I warmed the rooms a bit, so they shouldn't be too bad." Considering they hadn't been heated in a while, since no one had been staying in them for ... well ... years now.

Kaito got up and stretched, then grabbed his bag and followed after Ulani.

Edging towards Senka Lin carefully picked her kitty up, even though she knew Senka was sort of a heavy sleeper when she wanted to be. Cradling the cat in the crook of her arm, Lin picked up her bag and followed Ulani to the rooms they would be staying in.

Less than a week later, the hunting party returned. Celeborn was as usual driving the cart with the children, and the other fighters were riding their horses alongside them.

It was to the ranch that they went first, of course, but it wasn't long before Celebor returned to the valley to let everyone know that they had returned.

Rhea was training with Lin when Celebor returned, and though he returned home first, she of course knew when he came back. "Lin!" she grinned, pausing in the middle of their training. "Your father is back! Shall we go see him?"

Lin paused for a moment, sometimes it took a bit to get use to how Rhea did that all the time, but she was just as excited. She grinned from ear to ear at the thought of surprising her father.

After all as Ulrich had once said how often was it anyone could surprise him?

"Let's," Lin replied, "Besides they might need help."

"Probably not," Rhea smiled, taking her staff in hand and holding it as a walking stick instead of as a weapon. Her wings vanished into her back, and she motioned for Lin to follow after her. "There were only a few children, I don't think they'll have any trouble with them."

"Come on, if we hurry we might catch your father before he sleeps, he always naps when he gets back."

Lin nodded knowing that was how he generally did all his hunts. He would only stay up long enough to make sure everything was going smoothly, which it generally did.

"Okay," she murmured.

It took them almost an hour to reach the ranch, and when they got there, the cart was nowhere in sight, and there were tracks in the snow that showed it had already been taken back to the carriage house and the fighters returned to the barracks to rest. There were also small footsteps leading into the house - it looked like several of the children at least were well able to walk on their own.

"A lively bunch this time," Rhea smiled, seeing the patterns in the footprints. "That's always a good sign."

She opened the door to the ranch house and held it for Lin. "You first," she smiled.

Lin stepped into the Ranch house looking around, she decided to try heading right for the playroom.

"Dad?" she called out.

"Lin? In the playroom, back already? Bloody time difference."

Yep that was her father alright.

Rhea laughed. Donovan was ... Donovan. Though he did sound quite tired.

"Don't forget me," she beamed as she followed Lin towards the playroom. "Did you have a good trip?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 06, 2009 6:25 pm

Donovan seemed fine enough, for a man who had been hunting people pretty much. He was glad to be back and know everything was still in one piece. He hated though there were so many slavers, but on the other hand it shouldn't have been surprising.

"As well as can be expected," he replied turning to face the girls.

He blinked and stared and probably took a while for his mind to process what he saw. Donovan stalked over to Lin, and gave her a good once over. He poked the wings. He blinked again and went around Lin and poked the area near where the wings sprouted from.

"What are you doing?" Lin asked.
"No nerve endings there," Donovan muttered more to himself.

He paused again and poked her lower along her spine which nearly made Lin jump out of her skin.

"Dad!"
"And very sensitive there," Donovan muttered, "You're like your mother."
Lin gave him a look, "And it took two pokes before you figured that out?"
"Actually three, you have no nerve endings closer to your wings, suggesting you could probably pull them into your back if you wanted," Donovan corrected her.

Lin stared at him, of course she didn't know that he did know a thing or two about how angels worked.

"What did you do?"
"I didn't do anything, they just sprouted, like something would out of the ground," Lin pouted at him.
"You grew wings."
"No kidding."

Rhea just stood back and watched, quite amused by the whole exchange. Perhaps the most amusing part was Donovan's comment echoed almost everyone else's - that Lin was so much like her mother.

"Lin came here to train with me," she told Donovan with a smile, "since I'm one of the few who would be able to help her with balancing now that she's changed."

Well that made sense to him, after all knowing Lin she would view this as a set back. Naturally training was needed to make up for her new body type as it were.

"I see, very good. It's not like anyone else can help her," Donovan nodded at this, "Have you been taking lessons from your mother? You've been raised everyone thinking you were well... human."

Lin rolled her eyes, "Yes Dad, we went through proper maintenance and a bit about flying."

"And proper angel etiquette? You know, primary feathers and stuff like that."
"I'm going to pretend I didn't just hear you say that," Lin told him completely deadpanned.

She was still smarting a bit after finding out she was hit on without knowing it for a whole evening.

"What?"

Rhea giggled. "I think Lin might be trying to express that she is an adult, and she might hope that you would have a bit more faith in her now," she winked at Donovan.

Shew knew how Lin liked to prove that she was mature ... even if she didn't quite always act it.

Donovan turned to Rhea, she didn't look like she had changed that much since the last time he saw her, but then again she was nearly an adult the last time he saw her. He doubted physically he would see any changes.

"Oh I know she's an adult," Donovan smiled and put a hand on top of Lin's head, "That's why it's so important for her to know proper angelic co-"
"No I don't," Lin interrupted as she lifted her Dad's hand off of her head, "It's never going to happen. Ever."

She didn't say this because she had a problem with the males, and she didn't say this because she didn't believe in falling in love. Lin said this out of a practical view that she wanted to spend the rest (or at least the majority) of her life in a world where the boundaries between races were very defined unlike Gaia.

"You know... your mother told me she said that too once."
"I know it anyways, and don't you start," Lin pointed a finger at her father.

Donovan laughed he had forgotten how much fun it was to get people worked up.

"Just you wait, someone will come and I'll have to have a talk."

Rhea was tempted to add something, but she could feel how much Lin loved this world, and how she wanted to spend her life here ... and she knew how strict the races were here, how no race would ever court someone from another race. She knew Lin would not likely have to worry about being courted - at least, not now that she had wings.

"I think she will be fine," she smiled at Donovan. "Really."
