Lin blinked and then nodded that was probably the closest way of putting it, "Something like that yes."
She smiled wryly at Roydon, she wondered if Roydon at all remembered her father. Lin had heard about the questions he had once asked her father.
"Do you remember him? I know he was only around for a small while when you came to visit Arwen."

Roydon looked a little sheepish. "Vaguely?" he admitted. "I mean ... he was there to rescue me when I was a kid, but that was a long time ago ... and let's face it, I sort of avoided him that time. Saw him a little, that time I visited Arwen ... but not long enough to make lasting impressions."
Leyenda blinked and looked over at her father, the fish suddenly forgotten. "Rescue you?" she asked curiously. "Why did you need rescuing, Papa?"

Lin blinked in surprise, she didn't think he had avoided her father with all of his own questions. On the other hand she knew it was much longer for than it had been for her.
"Slavers," Lin murmured, "Actually that was the first time your father and mother met, even though they were much younger."
Much, much younger she added.

Roydon smiled warmly. "She was fun," he murmured softly. "I mean ... I felt out of place with the other children. They had all been kidnapped just like me, but they were all afraid of everything ... I wanted to make the best of it. Arwen was willing to play and pretend like everything was right in the world." He shrugged. "I've wondered often if I would have gone looking for her even if we hadn't bumped into each other in Tor Karad that one time."
Leyenda pouted. "Papa! You never told me about any of that!" she complained.
Roydon chuckled. "You make sure to catch us enough fish for dinner, and I'll tell you for a bedtime story tonight, all right?"
"Deal!" Leyenda grinned and turned back to her fishing.

Lin giggled at that, "I remember, well I was only there the first day or so after you all came back. We always return home at least a day after Dad returns from one of those trips."
She tried to remember who else had been there at the time, if she remembered correctly it had been Celebor's first hunt that time.

"And let's face it," Roydon smiled at Lin, "it wasn't as if I spent the entire day with you either - though I shall never forget how quickly we made that pact to travel together. I suppose that day is approaching, isn't it?"
Earendil looked at Lin eagerly. He was anxious for that trip as well, and wondering when Lin would be ready for it.

"It is," Lin replied without thinking.
She knew it was, she had fulfilled the only requirement (next to training and learning her butt off) for this trip and that was to grow up. All her training and learning had come up to that moment.
"I don't think it's quite sunk in yet."
She didn't feel any different than being a teen as far as she could tell.

Roydon chuckled. "Then we'll begin preparations, so that whenever you do show up, we'll be ready to go more quickly. How does that sound?"
It would take quite a while for the preparations to be made - especially as he had designed a special ship just for the journey and wanted to make sure that it would be done exactly as he wanted it to be.

"That sounds perfect," Lin sighed in relief, "Since I wasn't sure how this would work. When I first talked about it, it was before realizing how weird the time differences can get."
And after her talk with Nadya on the vineyard it was becoming very clear that the time difference was far more unpredictable than first thought. It wasn't so bad if you came from Gaia and stayed here, it was bad if you came from here and tried to stay in Gaia.

"Time differences?" Leyenda was confused yet again. "What?"
Roydon laughed. "Keep fishing, sweetheart," he grinned at her. "I'll explain it all to you later." He turned back to Lin, still grinning. "I know. Arwen's told me stories. I have to say, it's rather amusing to hear about it all."

The fact he had been amused interested her, though she could think of a few instances where it was amusing.
"Dare I ask stories of what?" she inquired with a grin.
She had spent a good enough time around Arwen though she tended to spend a lot of time with Elros or Adan. Which was weird when she thought about it because by the time she was old enough she could claim Timeaus was the one whom she was closest with in age, because Adan had grown up to the point where he had kids of his own.

Roydon shrugged. "Just stories about how every time you guys showed up, it was as if almost no time had passed for you and yet so much had happened in our world. Families beginning, people coming and going ... and sometimes you had the most interesting timing. Middle of the night, right before a snowstorm ..."

"It's actually amazing we've never gotten into any real trouble with the way we just pop into the world suddenly," Lin murmured, "I mean.. it's okay when it's at the castle, it's in a building the likelyhood of anything happening is slim, but that portal is hidden as a bush."
Well technically it was hidden in a bush, and how that happened Lin wasn't quite sure, but no one would suspect for the most part it was in a bush.

"Trouble ... such as?" Roydon asked curiously. "I mean, the Borderlands isn't that busy of an area, and they haven't had trouble out there for as long as I can remember ... I mean, I know the ranch is a lot older than me and such, but ..."
Then again, he didn't know much of its history, for all he knew something could have happened that he just didn't know about.

"We could have ended up in the middle of that snow storm," Lin pointed out, "Because of the time difference between the worlds all it takes is going through the portal a minute earlier or a minute later."
She had been very well aware of that, but it never occurred to her to worry about it until she got older.
"It's just the nature of the portal. We've always managed to never go through in the middle of winter, except for Cindy but she expected it since when we were there it was just entering into Winter. Dad says the Borderlands also have bad storms, but we've never been there during a season where there was one of those storms."
