Pretty much, modern day earth goes boom and if you were to go by Lan's MS Paint drawing of the Earth (which I do not suggest), North America folded in on itself, Antartica moved north and magically created land bridges between itself, Africa, and South America. Africa grew larger, Europe became non-existent, Asia grew smaller and broke up into mostly islands, and half of Australia is underwater.

Anyways, it has to do with a meteorite that will be played into the storyline later, but it sends the world into Chaos, many people die, those that don't slowly mutate gaining magical powers. Seven of which were the most powerful, Normal humans are afraid and start trying to contain them. War begins, no more normal humans. Much later on, seven distinct tribes are all that's left. Each tribe takes after the seven most mightiest people from before. Some point during this storyline, it turns out there were eight mighty people, one of them was bad and was all "destroy everything," pretty much he never died. he was just put into stasis, and now he wakes up again to cause havoc and all that fun stuff. Bleh, I don't remember all the fine little details, Lan's version was much more written nicely and had much less run-on sentences.
