Tara was quite for a long time as she seemed to stare into space. Then she reach under her jacket's neck and pulled out a small locket on a chain and clicked it open. "He did leave me with something tough, something that carried me through the next few years and I think helped me as much as his presence did. I can't think he knew about it before he died though."
In the locket were two pictures, one of two young childred about 5, a boy and girl who looked about the same age and almost exactly alike each other outside of the boy having dark, raven black hair and girl hair the color of spun golden thread. The other picture was of the same two kids, but this time older, around the age of 19 or 20."
"My kids, Kyle was the only person that could have done it. I named the boy after him, and girl after my father's mother. They have so much promise, I hope they can do much more good in their life than I did. I should have seen that something was strange about my son's powers though. His mutation lets him tap into arcane energies with a natural ease that most spell casters would kill for. He can cast spells without a word or archaic motions, like magic was an extension of his own senses. He just thinks what he wants to happen and the spell forms on its own, I've been told that that is not normal by our resident mage. It seems uncanny now that I named him after his father....."
Tara trailed off for a moment before she said, "Fhaytei, now I know I've heard that name before, and more than once."
She did not deliberate on that statement as she turned to Chamberlain. "Thank you, I can't promise I will ever truly move past what's happened to me, it's what makes me me; but you're right, Kyle would not have wanted me to drag around my guilt with me. So, could you tell me...what was he like when you knew him? Just how much did he do for this world before he met me?"

"Well they got smart as to the gps tracking chip in the car. I'm stuck monitoring them the hard way. While they are outside I can keep a fairly good eye on them through the satellites but for the few dozen seconds I have to let it go I have to rely on the local traffic cameras and such. Either that or I have to start hacking the entire city's worth of surveillance video feeds and security systems. If they go into a building then I can simply follow them through its video feeds and such but until then I'd rather not be distracted trying to take control of the entire city at once." "We're on another lead right now," said Zack, "What can you tell us about the underbelly of this city?" There was a short pause and then, "There is one name you need to know, JJ Brian Snyder, aka "The Manager". He is the person with all the answers in this city in terms of the dirty dealings and black markets. He was.......yes, he was in the building before it was demolished, I have video confirmation from off site stored files. Until I have a grasp on what these other guys' angle is, see if you can't fine the bread trail that leads to him." When they reached the docks their car looked like and old black sedan, they got out, this time waring street clothes. Zack was in black jeans and denim coat over a white shirt, Liz was wearing blue jeans and a brown leather jacket with a hood. They began poking around to see if they could find anyone.... Two rough looking men walked toward Zack and Liz and stopped them. "Excuse me my uninformed friends. But you may not park you vehicle there as we are in the middle of operations in this area. Please return from whence you came." The other guy nodded fervently. "Yeah, get lost."

In the course of that partnership we prevented at least two wars, kept a city from sinking into the ocean and saved who know how many lives. Jimmy eyed the big man viciously, but did as he was told. He led them to the dock where a small black sedan was parked surrounded by two men. One professional looking man with clean cut hair and another rather squirrely man who looked a bit stressed. On top of the car was a middle aged Italian man wearing a Hawaiian shirt and khakis hitting golf balls off the car roof into the river. Every time he took a swing he dented the car with a loud pok, to which the squirrel man winced. Jimmy motioned toward them and then left.

The other picture was of the same two kids, but this time older, around the age of 19 or 20." "My kids, Kyle was the only person that could have done it. It seems uncanny now that I named him after his father....." Tara trailed off for a moment before she said, "Fhaytei, now I know I've heard that name before, and more than once." She did not deliberate on that statement as she turned to Chamberlain. "Thank you, I can't promise I will ever truly move past what's happened to me, it's what makes me me; but you're right, Kyle would not have wanted me to drag around my guilt with me. So, could you tell me...what was he like when you knew him? Just how much did he do for this world before he met me?" "More than I could ever say with mere words." Chamberlain said as he sat down on a bar stool. "There were many things that he wouldn't even tell me though I knew him so well. One could just...look into his eyes and see the universe. But not cold and dark, there was a warmness. Like home. The first time he met me he saved my life. I was climbing a particularly steep cliff face when I lost my grip. I fell nearly fifty feet, smashed myself up real good. Thought I was going to die out there all alone. Then Kyle came. He patched me up and while he did I asked him how he found me. He said he just knew. After conversation we found out we were after the same thing so we made a partnership. In the course of that partnership we prevented at least two wars, kept a city from sinking into the ocean and saved who know how many lives. And all through that, Kyle refused any sort of payment, we were treasure hunters after all not super heroes. But times have changed, Kyle is gone now and the world is much colder. People like us can't be doing whatever we feel like, we must be protectors. Guardians." He looked over at Tara and gave a weak smile. "Sorry, I'm rambling." "No, you're right, the world needs people looking out for it. That's what the people I work with believe. That's exactly how I remember him too, like a sudden warmness to your day." Tara smiled then before she placed her palm to her forehead and said, "In all this I forgot why I came originally. I was going to do this in a more around about way but I think I can be forward with you. I'm part of a group called HUNTERS we are interested in what might be the cause of the mountain floating in the air. Two of the men who were at the fight yesterday night were found driving a car that originated from this point. Our tech person tracked it and I decided to come here while one of our two man teams went to look for them. Do you know anything? I'm afraid that and old acquaintance of mine might be involved in this. Belial is a super villain of great proportions and a man who used to be a student of mine when I taught lectures for a college years ago. I unfortunately did not see his future like this." Chamberlain stood and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "The two men, though they stole my car, are friends of mine. I know they were there to stop Belial not help him. That's all I know I'm sorry. Perhaps you could track the GPS I had installed in the car and ask them directly?" "That's how we found you," Tara said. "Tinker hacked the tracking system and backtracked the car's path here. She was using it to guide our two-man cell to them. Hopefully they will get some more answers." Tara look around as she stood and grabbed the table she had flip and righted it, waving her hand across the mark she had left with her clenched hands to repair the table. "How long have you lived here? Are you days of adventure long gone?"

"Do we look like a newsstand?" The larger one shook his head. "Jimmy you are embarrassing me. These citizens obviously want to talk to the boss, so pat them down and show them the way." Jimmy eyed the big man viciously, but did as he was told. Liz had handed over the many knives that she had had on her body before moving toward the car with Zack. they stopped a few yards short and said, "Excuse, are you 'The Manager'?" Liz asked fairly strait forwardly. "We were wondering if we could ask you a few questions about what happened yesterday night." JJ swung his club once more and sent a ball far into the river, a decent showing. He spoke as he swung. "Cheeseburger! Damn that was a nice one. Sure I don't mind entertaining the kiddies. Shoot." "For what purpose did the villain Belial go there that night? And why did he destroy the building? What was the vigilantes Reaper and Heatstroke's part in all this. We are also trying to figure out what can be done about the sky's current condition," "That's an awful lot of questions." JJ responded casually. He hit another ball then continued. "The Spiral Tower had an interesting number of items in its vaults below ground. One being the Crimson Tear of Krona or so I'm told. I heard a mention of it a few days ago being thrown around with Ars Goetia and since Belial leads the group it's not too hard to figure out why he was there. Damnit!" The last ball he hit sliced viciously. "Come on, you're killing me!" He hopped down and turned to the clean cut man. "Ed, this car is no good, toss it into the river." Ed nodded and kicked the back of the car and it rolled off the end of the pier and landed with a huge splash in the water. JJ nodded. "Button up the owner too." JJ turned back to continue his conversaion while Ed forcfull tossed the squirrel man off the dock. "Anyway, It seems the building was knocked down in the fight by Belial. Too bad those two rat finks Reaper and Heatstroke weren't killed. As for that thing in the sky, I don't know. But the timing is awfully suspicious if you ask me. Showed up right after they got that stone."

I feel a bit to old to be adventuring nowadays, but I don't have any trouble helping a city in need. Oh, hold on let me get you something." He rushed around the counter and dug through a box until he found a dusty worn journal. It had splotches of what could be mud or blood or both here and there but generally in good condition. He handed it to her. "This is the journal that Kyle kept when he traveled with me. I don't see a problem with letting you borrow it for a while." He gave her a charming wink.

You could kill me in an instant, I've no doubt about that. But if you did, the backlash you and your organization would receive for murdering a humble philantropist would certainly not be worth it. So you stay your hand. Now which one of us is more powerful?" He smirked and put on a silly grin. "I helped you because Ars Goetia's dangerous antics threaten my business, that's all. Now, if that's all you need I'm hungry and I feel like having a cheese burger." He turned and walked back toward a large warehouse Ed and golf bag following.
