((( Alright, here comes your novel. Parts are still craptastic because I was in a hurry to finish. Sorry.)))
PostPosted: Fri Aug 08, 2008 8:28 pm

The sun would rise any minute now.
Logan’s heart was beating like a wounded bird trying to escape the hunter’s hounds. The hand that held the knife so firmly was shaking.
But this fear was not for him. He knew that these next moments would be his last. That much he could accept. His fear was for Alice and what would become of her when he could no longer be there to protect her. His fear was for the people that he left behind and what would become of them when he could no longer lead them against Alec’s wrath. His fear was for Jasper, who might never see the one he loved again, and for all the Diseased that might never be Cured because of him.
Logan took a deep breath and tightened his grip on the blades.
Silhouetted by the coming dawn was a group of at least twenty men and woman, each dressed in black from their necks to their glossy boots and looking fit for a funeral. In voices of mock sorrow they sang a dirge for him.

Ebony led the group but she did not participate in the singing. Jasper was still slung across her shoulder. Alec had instructed her to come with this heavily-armed group of Rogues and meet with Logan, but he had explained little else. As they rounded a corner she saw Logan’s lone figure awaiting their arrival.

Alec couldn’t help but chuckle as he sent off his group of lamenting Rouges. He hopped Logan would get a kick out of it as well.
Despite Logan’s promise that no one would follow him, Alec had armed each member of the procession with their choice of guns. You never could trust Logan’s word at times like these; with the Cure so close Alec wasn’t taking any chances.
He stared down at Logan from a rooftop. It took a few minutes, but eventually Logan felt his gaze and looked up. Their eyes met for a brief moment. Logan inclined his head a fraction to his right and then looked away once more. Alec followed the movement and smiled. She was hiding in an alley? Who did she think he was?
It only took him a minute to reach her, though he was caught by surprise when he saw another woman armed with guns by her side. His smile only grew.
“Hello ladies,” Alec said in his coldest voice.
Syvra moved to turn on him, but Alec’s hand shot out with lightning speed and grabbed her head. He lifted her into the air, digging his nails into her temples.
Alice stared at him in horror. She must have guessed who he was. Alec nodded.
“Yes yes, its me. So nice to meet you.”
Alec inclined his head politely and slammed Syvra into the brick wall at his side, sliding her down it slowly like he was grating cheese. Alice screamed and fumbled for a gun, but Alec released Syvra with a flick of his wrist and stepped on Alice’s hand, pressing down until he heard a crack.
But she was quicker than he expected. With her other hand Alice seized a gun and turned it on him, letting loose a few bullets, each of which hit Alec.
With a roar of rage he kicked the gun out of her hand and grabbed her by the hair. She was really screaming now and her small hands worked at his to try and free herself. He gave a yank and started to drag her out into the street.

The sound of gunshots almost made Logan jump out of his skin. He whirled around and made a move in Alice’s direction, but the procession of Rogues was already on him. They raised their own gun in anticipation, some aiming at him and others at the alleyway.
A few tense seconds went by of silence. Logan feared the worst, though in his mind he knew that was impossible. This was confirmed when Alec appeared from behind the brick wall dragging a screaming Alice by the hair behind him.
Alice’s eyes met his. Logan could hear her screaming for help. And while it took everything out of him to do so, Logan managed to look away and pretend he didn’t see anything.
Alice went quiet and even stopped struggling. Alec sighed in relief and pulled her up to her feet, wrapping and arm around her in case she had any thoughts of fleeing.
Logan turned his eyes on the procession of Rogues in front of him. They were moving to form a half circle around him. Directly in front of him was Alec and Ebony with their prisoners.
“I kept my promise, Alec. Now give me Jasper and let us leave.”

Jasper’s eyes flickered open at his name. Through his blurred vision it was hard for him to make out the shape, but he quickly realized it was the familiar one of Logan. He almost smiled as he was tossed like a sack in his direction, but pain exploded everywhere and his mind clouded over for a moment.
When he managed to open his eyes again Logan had stepped forward. Gently he scooped up Jasper and supported his weight. Jasper tried to help by holding onto Logan, but his broken fingers made that impossible.
Jasper had the growing sense that something was terribly wrong. Had he heard screaming? Why was he with Logan?
He focused on the group in front of him. There were Rouges everywhere, each armed to the slimy fangs with guns. There was Ebony, the woman he hated more than anything in the world. There was Alec, the only person he could hate equally. And then there was Alice.
Alice?
She was crying. Of course, he probably would be too if Alec was holding him like that.
“Logan, what is going on?” he heard Alice call out.
Alec started laughing. It was a laugh that no one deserved to hear. Jasper felt his skin crawl.
“Logan?!” Alec mocked, waving his free hand in the air dramatically. “Yes, do tell her what is going on.

Logan’s face held no expression. It was a mask, just like it always was. “This is the only way to keep you safe, Alice.”
The pain and confusion was evident on her face. “What are you talking about? How is handing me off to the people who want to kill me ‘safe?’ Have you lost your mind?”
Alec was still chuckling. “Logan betrayed you, Alice. He betrayed all of you. Can you say you are surprised, though? I always knew he would come through for me, whether he liked it or not.”
“Tell him he is wrong,” Jasper groaned at Logan’s side. “Shut him up so we can go home.”
“The stories about the Cure were wrong,” Logan explained, ignoring Alec’s and Jasper’s remarks. “It was a trick from the start.”
“What do you mean?” Alice asked quietly, but somewhere inside things were starting to make sense.
“For us to be Cured you have to die, Alice.” While his expression gave away nothing, his eyes held Alice’s for a moment and the worry surfaced within them again. “Alec is the only one that will keep you safe.”

Alec patted Alice’s head. “Yes dear, you will be very safe with me. I will never let anything happen to you.” His voice was filled with mockery meant to sting like salt in their emotional wounds.
“Say your sweet goodbyes, children. This is your last chance.”
But he gave them no time to say anything. Alec turned to Logan, who had already started to back away dragging Jasper at his side.
“Are you sure you don’t want to join me?” Alec called to him. The group of Rogues had parted for him and Ebony to leave, but he had a few last words.
Logan stopped backing away and shook his head slowly. “We both know that would never work out.”
Alec laughed. “I just wanted to give you a chance. I’m a fair man, after all.”
“But not one of your word,” Logan said grimly. He didn’t dare look at Alice.
Alec chuckled with good humor. “You know me too well, old friend! “ He shrugged and waved his hand again.
“Goodbye for now, Logan. See you in hell.”
He turned and started to walk away, dragging Alice along. They were a few yards away when he suddenly stopped.
Alec smiled and snapped his fingers at the waiting Rouges.
“Kill them.”
He was going to keep walking, but something inside him begged for one last treat. He turned back around just as the guns started firing and held Alice out at arm’s length in front of him.
“This is what happens to those who try to fight me,” he whispered gently into Alice’s ear just as Logan’s body lurched forwards and hit the ground.
With a satisfied smile he pulled her back to his building, never turning to look in the direction of the blazing guns again.

Logan had known all along that Alec would kill him. It was probably best. After what he had just done there was no going back to the Cursed.
He started to walk away with Jasper supported at his side. He knew he wouldn’t get anywhere, but it felt better than just waiting around.
He was surprised that he made it all the way to the alley when the order was given. Curiosity took over him in those last seconds. He peered into the alley from across the street to see where the gunshots had come from.
His heart gave a painful lurch when he saw Syvra. She was covered in blood, especially on her head. She looked as though she had just woken up from being knocked unconscious only a few minutes before. She was clutching a gun in each hand.
Logan shook his head slowly. He wasn’t sure if she knew what was going on, but he didn’t want her to expose herself to the Rogues a few yards behind him.
They locked eyes and he managed to give her a slight smile. Then he threw Jasper to the side to protect him.
Logan had been shot before, so he wasn’t surprised by the burning feeling as the first bullet ripped through him. His body lurched forward from the impact as other bullets hit him as well. He staggered, staying on his feet for a moment, before tipping forward and landing on his knees. A final, unnecessary bullet hit him in the shoulder. That last push sent Logan all the way to the ground.
Logan stared at Syvra from his place in the dirt. He was still shaking his head when he closed his eyes.

Turning, and walking away from the Cursed leader Ebony followed Alec as they headed back to his building. Momentarily, Alec turned Alice around to watch that massacre that was taking place, and after a few choice words he continued his short but victorious journey back. However, Ebony stood there transfixed, she had to watch the physical downfall of Logan, years of pain and frustration had been created by this man, and she was going to savor the image of every burning bullet that tore through him. Ebony wouldn't have given the leader such a painless end, how she wished that Alec had commissioned her with the disposal of Logan, it would have been so much more satisfying. Ebony huffed and turned around as Logan fell to the ground, she hadn't seen where he had dropped Jasper for the wall of Rogue's had blocked her view. But no matter, she wouldn't see him again, for he would die of blood loss on the filthy cracked cement of the street.

Turning back to where Alec had walked away to, Ebony paused as his figure was outlined by the weak rays of the breaking sun, this image more than any other would be blazoned into her memory as the moment of victory. Ebony picked up her pace to catch up with Alec, and a minute or two later she was standing once again at his side. In the corner of Ebony's eye she could see the open emotion of victory displayed in his eyes, and the corner of his mouth was quipped up in pleasure. Looking at the girl, the Cure, he was dragging along with him, Ebony's brows drew together. This small girl was the prize after their long campaign? From a glance it looked hardly worth it, but the real prize wasn't skin deep. Ebony subltey glanced at Alec once again, and a glow of satisfaction made her beam. This is why she worked so hard and passionately, it was to see Alec like this, and nothing could stop her from trying to achieve this kind of result.

Nathan landed at the entrance of the warehouse, ready for anything. The door was open. That wasn't good. Nathan walked in cautiously. "So, whats going on? Where is everyone, Nathan?" The staff asked. 'Shut up, will ya? I'm trying to figure that out!' Nathan replied. The staff sighed and seemed to dissconnect its self from Nathan's mind. Nathan disregarded this action and continued his investigation. No one was on the main floor. But there was some blood, not any from a dead body, just from wounds. It smelled fowl, too. A mix of Lycan and Vampire. Nathan grimised. There had been a battle here. One between the Rouge and the Cursed. And it was on the Curses turf. Not good. Nathan began to investigate the second floor. Nothing seemed to be different up there. Nathan went to the basement. But, again, nothing. It seemed that the battle was kept on the main floor. Hopefully, it was because the Cursed kept it that way. Nathan began to sniff the air. The only sent he was able to pick up was the sent of blood. "No ones here, Nathan. I think it is best we leave before a Rouge finds us. Where could they be?" Nathan thought to himself for a moment. Then the thought hit him. 'Jess.' Nathan ran out of the warehouse as fast as he could.

"Then why did he take Alice? I, or any of us, could have done the job better than her. She's the important one. If he gets her killed, I'll make it my personal mission to hunt him down and turn him into a coat." Alaric was not at all satisfied with the situation. He looked out at the newly risen sun and shuddered. It was bright, and it held an even more sinister feeling than usual. He couldn't help but suspect that there was something going on over his head, and he hated the feeling.

"So what do you want to do then, Jess? Just sit and wait for daddy Logan to come back and tell us it's okay, and he's taken care of everything?" He waited for a response. If they weren't willing to take any action, he might have to leave them, though he didn't relish going out in the daytime. Shadow-walking didn't really work in the blazing sun.

The sun was now shining brightly through their tiny window. Jess walked over to it and looked at the street above them, there were humans waking up all around them. walking around, yet again unaware to their surroundings. Jess was snapped back into their current situation with teh sound of Alaric's voice. "If he gets her killed, I'll make it my personal mission to hunt him down and turn him into a coat." Jess stepped toward, Alaric. "You obviously don't know him very well, Alaric. If you're assuming he would allow that to happen. Logan will do anything to keep her safe." Jess looked down, something was starting to click, "...he would do...anything.. to keep her alive..because..he would never kill her.." Then Alaric began speaking again, "So what do you want to do then, Jess? Just sit and wait for daddy Logan to come back and tell us it's okay, and he's taken care of everything."

Jess shot him a vile look, "Do not pull that crap with me Alaric and what we're going to do is stay here and take care of everything that needs to be taken care of." She saw the look in Alaric's eye, he was thinking about leaving the group. She wouldn't blame them.. just look at the group. Look at how far they had fallen. Then she remembered something, what had happened to Nathan? She hadn't seen him since before the fight. She pulled at her phone, she was glad that Logan had remembered to return it to her the following night. She looked through the address book on her phone quickly, and there it was Nathaniel Grace. She pushed call quickly, the phone was ringing. "Pick up, pick up, pick up..."

((I tried to get Nathan involved.
..Nice novel Rosie.))

Nathan had decided to take to the roof tops to get to Jess's fast enough. In mid-jump over an 11 ft. gap, his phone rang. The distraction caused him to slip off the edge of the building, but he managed to grabbed hold of the fire escape. He pulled himself up and sat on the edge. "Well, that sucks. Am I burdening you, Nathan? If so, then I want to see you fall next time. Just through me in the air. I should have a good angle there." The staff said jokingly. Nathan sighed and shook his head. He pulled his phone out of his pocket. It read Jess. Nathan hurridly opened his phone and put it to his ear. "Hello? Jess?" Nathan said, both words full of hope.

Thoughts of bad situations filled Jess' mind when she thought of situations Nathan could be in. He was the youngest member of the Cursed. She was starting to get more and more worried, and then finally with the fourth ring he answered, "Hello? Jess?" His voice was full of hope and he was out of breath. "Nathan! Where are you and why were you just running?" She, in a way, felt responsible for him not being with them. She had forgotten that he had gone out yesterday morning, right after she woke up and walked downstairs. She remembered, "Jess I'm just going out for a walk before the sun gets too high. I'll be back in a couple hours. I'll see you later."

As she waited for Nathan to answer her, she looked around the room. Surveying their situation again. There was an injured Rosen, a fed-up Alaric, and the new girl. Jess was glad that to know that at least Nathan was okay. Logan was probably half dead somewhere right now, she knew it. One thing was for sure... Alice was safe and alive and Jasper was going to come back to her.

((Eh...crapptastic post.))

Nathan smiled. He was so relieved to know that she was okay. "I'm...I don't know. I'm in New York. I was running from the warehouse. Did something happen there? 'Cause everyones gone." Nathan said. He sat down on an air conditioner. "Obviously something happened, you dumbass. You said so yourself. Lets just get to where ever she is. Remember, we are not out of the blue, yet. We need to keep moving." Nathan nodded and got up. Be began running again. Running to the only safe spot for his kind. The only place that could he could finally rest. Even if it was only for a little bit.

Jess listened to the backround on the phone carefully, trying to figure out where Nathan was before he told her. It sounded like he was on a roof top, based on all the wind in the backround. Then he spoke, "I'm...I don't know. I'm in New York. I was running from the warehouse. Did something happen there? 'Cause everybody's gone." Jess heard that he was running again, "Okay...it's a good thing that you're not still at the warehouse. Try to stay on the roofs until you get here. We're at my old hide-out. Remember that place I showed you when you first joined us..I told you that it was where I lived before joining the Cursed. This is one of the safest places to go when you're in trouble..for us at least." She paused again, she knew that she had to tell him what had happened. "Yes..Nathan..something did happen. We got the cure, Jasper was captured and tortured, all of us were injured, Syvra's a street vampire again. We have a new girl that nobody trusts." She then looked over to Irani again, then back to staring at nothing and began talking again. "...Logan has gone to exchange himself for Jasper, Syvra and Alice.. the cure, are with him." She stopped talking and listened to what was going on on Nathan's side of the phone. He was still running, and he was close to where they were. "Nathan..I can go outside and wait for you, if you'd like."

She began to walk towards the door, but walked over to Rosen. She took the phone away from he rmouth for a second, but still held it to her phone. "Rosen..are you okay?" She waited for an answer and then went back to her phone, "Nathan..? You still there?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 09, 2008 8:39 pm

Nathan stopped where he was and looked around. He was on top of a sky scraper closest to the edge of the city. Jess lived right on the edge of the city. "No, no. I don't want them finding you. If they follow me, they'll only think its me. If they follow me and find you waiting, they'll know that you're alive, and know where you're hiding. Even if they know where I am, they won't know who's with me. And don't worry about someone listening in on me. I can't smell or hear anyone, and if they were out of my range, my staff would pick it up. And he hasn't picked anything up." Nathan sighed. With the phone still to his ear, and his staff in hand, Nathan walked straight off the edge of the building, completely confident in what he was doing. "Let me call you back, Jess. I need at least one free hand for this free fall." Nathan said. He closed his phone and slipped it in to his pocket before she could answer. 'Alright, lets do this.' Nathan said to the staff as he hooked it to his strap and slung it over his back. After a good 35 feet of falling, Nathan took a 180 degree spin in the air so he was facing the wall. Using his gloves, claws, and boots, he grappled to the face of the building, slowing his fall. By the time his fall actually started to slow, Nathan was close to the ground. He had a good 70 feet to go, but if he didn't slow down, he'd surely hit the ground in 3 minutes and it would surely kill him. Luckly for him, Nathan was slowing down. By the time he hit the ground, he was barely going 5 miles an hour. He hit the ground hard, but only hard to a human, not nearly hard for a vampire, and especially an experienced vampire. Nathan stopped and looked around, no one was there to see him, so Nathan was very thankful. He took off to Jess's and took his phone out. He redialed her number and waited for her to answer, when she did he smiled. "Now, where were we?"
