Proudly_Jewish Velvy I think the prettiest languages are Finnish and japanese. Both languages have got a nice sound Sadly I cant understand it but I really like finnish or japanese songs. Another nice language is dutch. I love this language cause it sounds really cute when dutch people are talking bout something. I've heard that Dutch is very similar to German 3nodding I can't agree. Hearing Dutch everyday and learning German. Sure there are some similarities - ik ben/ich bin and a few words are the same. It's like Spanish/French, they're actually very different. Well, I live around three languages - Dutch, English and French (my b/f is French). Prettiest - Ukrainian (in song - but I only really like male singers), Spanish (spoken). Sexiest - German (esp. by guys). I don't think it's sounds harsh at all, maybe a little rough and forceful, but I like that. One thing I especially like is the way they finish one word before they start another (as the coursebook said anyway). What was the example... comparing 'vor arbeiter' with 'for ages', there's a clear stop between the words in German. Makes it easy to hear the individual words. I love German.

Indeed, if you are exposed to Dutch and German long enough there are very large, big-huge, differences. Although they were much more similar in the past, I don't think a lot of Dutch people these days will openly admit it or be very fond of the idea. There are still a lot of hostilities from WWII. I personally love the sound of German. Japanese in close second. I think "harsher" languages are prettier.

I personally love the sound of German. Japanese in close second. I think "harsher" languages are prettier. There are some dialects of Dutch that are pretty similar to some German dialects, and others that are quite different. I am a native German speaker and I recall both that I once overheard a conversation in Dutch and couldn't even guess what language it was (I thought maybe Belarusian or some similar language) and another occasion when I overheard a conversation and understood nearly everything they said.
Recently I started to like Cantonese a lot ... did I mention that?
I like languages that sound rhythmic to me - Spanish, Finnish, Japanese, Cantonese, ...

I think Spanish can be very beautiful in music. I like the way the words can sorta roll and flow, I dunno how to describe it. It's just beautiful when spoken articulately.
I also really like Italian spoken. I spent two weeks in Italy.

I don't find Asian languages pretty. Endlessly fascinating, yes, but pretty...I actually think German is pretty. The North German accent, anyway. It's not as hard as the Southern one.

Looking into it more, I'm starting to like the sound of Russian too. I should learn the cyrillic alphabet. Maybe eventually (and after German) I'll learn both Ukrainian and Russian.
