Chubbs MacKraken

PostPosted: Mon Jan 02, 2006 11:44 pm

Chubbs lay slumped over the dead tree, his legs and arms dangling over each side. He snoared loudly and murmered in his sleep, out like a light. Every know and then he fidgeted and turned, the tree was covered in an ant trail and Chubbs was just an obsticle to crawl over. A large paw like hand smacked at a few on his back and there was an annoyed growl. Againt the hand swatted, more and more. Chubbs sat upright in a bolt and immediately fell backwards.

" Woa!.. oh s**t!"

There was a great thud as he landed on his back on the ground. He groaned and looked up, now noticing the night sky. He stared up at it, then the tree he was half hanging over. Where the hell was he? He got to his feet, wearing his cargo shorts and started swatting the ants off of him, it was creepy and annoying having them all over. He danced around trying to shake them off. He heard voices in the distance and looked around the surrounding area. What the hell was going on. Chubbs began to set off on foot, trying to make his way back. At the time a thought flashed into his mind...Sabin. Chubbs moved faster, he wanted to break someone tonight.

Chubbs stumbled through the wilderness, getting scratched by all sorts of plants and sticks, it was annoying to his feet, he kept trudging on sharp things. He didn't have a clue to where he was, he just kept walking, hoping to run into something other than trees. He started to actually feel kinda nice out in the cool air in the wild, the smells and sounds did wonders to his senses.

Chubbs heard a sound in the distance, like static noise in a rhythm. Chubbs realised it was the sound of the crashing waves of the ocen... the beach! He listened carefully and made his way towards it. He began to run as the sound got louder and finally hit sand. There it was... the beach. From here he could find his way.

((Continued from Lauren on last page))

Emerwyn felt her blood boil ever so slightly as Lauren looked Ian over. And that huge, arrogant smile made it even worse.

But why? She heard her asking herself. I have no reason to be jealous. Ian and I are not... Ian and I...

Instantly, all of those memories, from the kiss, to her passing out... Her illness, everything, smacked her in the face, almost physically. She drew back as though recovering from a harsh blow.
She turned wildly towards Ian, a look of pure fear on her face. How could she have felt comfortable, cuddled up with the man who made her sick? The man who could kill her?

"I-"

Emerwyn turned and darted away, in whatever direction she deemed would take her the furthest from the object of her torment.
Perhaps she'd be lucky; perhaps she'd find north, or someone who could help her get back to the village. Her book - her book was in her room. It was her only chance to recollect herself.

So, Emerwyn ran, and ran as fast as she could, without looking back.

Ian barely had time to react as Emerwyn went galavanting off into the forest. Grinning, the haze returned to could Ian's sense and we turned and went running after Emerwyn. In the space of a few strides Ian forgot about Lauren and Timothy entirely. "Emerwyn!" he called with a small chuckle closing the distance between them. "Please do not run from me."

Julian staggered awkwardly through the jungle, green eyes misted over and expression strange and calm. Occasionally, a hand would brush up to his chest, as if feeling for his pocketwatch - but it wasn't there.

Good. Keep looking. Someone might need our help...to get out of the Tulgey Wood.

"Tulgey Wood...." Julian mumbled this in a faint tone, not paying much mind to where he was going.

Emerwyn's legs moved in grand strides, her animal traits starting to show through. However, she had not adopted animal-like stamina; she still had the running power of a bookshop keeper, and she hadn't eaten anything that day.

While her feet slowed, Emerwyn noticed something else moving, in her direction. She only vaguely wondered what it could be, though, and continued, trying hard to keep pace. The only thought going through her head was escaping her illness. Her chest burned, and she panted heavily.

Ian was catching up to Emerwynfrom behind but he also smelled someone coming his way on the wind. As Emerwyn started to slow,so did he. "Emerwyn," his voice was softer now. "Emerwyn, pray tell me what hast thou bothered." He reached a hand towards her still running as was she.

About then, Julian turned a corner....

And had the running figure of Emerwyn plow directly into him.

He fell over awkwardly, rolling backwards and landing against a log. In this position, it was all too easy to see - something had gone horribly wrong since she had seen him last.

For starters, he was unreasonably thin. As he drew breath, his ribcage stood out just under his skin - his arms looked bony and slim. Sickly.

Adding to the horror, all his exposed skin was battered and cut - claw marks running across his face, arms, wrists, and chest, bruises dark on his pale skin. He had been beaten - and badly. By whom...the claw marks might be a hint.

And he was missing his pocketwatch.

He stared dimly at Emerwyn, the serene smile never leaving his face.

"...I'm sorry...."

Ian spied the collision between the two and barely recognized Julian. Sighing he looked at his leaf-clad state and stalked off into the woods. Perhaps it woul be best that he not appear before Julian in this state.

"Ufgh!"

Emerwyn careened forward, tripping over herself many times, trying to maintain her footing. To no avail. It was all she could do not to land right on top of Julian.
In all the commotion, she didn't notice Ian dissapear from the scene; but if she did, she probably would have been relieved.

The first feeling that filled Emerwyn at the sight of Julian was horror.
She knew he looked sickly - but this was rediculous.
And the scratches... She only realized too quickly who was responsible.

The next feeling was guilt. It was her fault; Cheshire had punished Julian for fighting him. And Emerwyn had been the one who helped him fight.

Finally, she realized that his shirt wasn't the only thing missing - the pocketwatch. And Emerwyn knew Julian without his pocketwatch; there would be problems.

"N-no, not at all. Julian... How are you?"

Lauren watched Emerwyn run away and just shrugged as Ian ran after. Damn that had to hurt seeing how naked he was.

She looked at Timothy who seemed to be in a daze. "I'm thinking I remember the village being that way, I'm going to check, I may be back." And Lauren charged off towards the village.

And she was right, it was a good thing she explored the jungle so much already but things were not what she expected them to be. Everything was shut down, she tried her duplex but it was locked. She tried a rock but it wouldn't break the window. She even tried some of the few lockbreaking tricks she knew but nothing worked at all. The gate was closed and the cafeteria as well.

Lauren's stomach was growling prefusely as she checked where the cafeteria dumpster was located. She knew very well, as she always made a mental note of local dumpsters and trash cans anywhere she was at. Old habits die hard.

Cursing to herself, she was able to scrape up a day or two worth of food. "This ******** sucks." She said to herself. "s**t! I'm back where I ******** started." She kicked the dumpster, leaving no mark on it but yelling harshly at her now sore foot. Lauren packed the food in some plastic she tore off of a trashbag and went to find others.

For some reason she hoped to find answers at the beach.

"...Emerwyn?" He blinked a few times, pushing himself shakily to a sitting position.

"...Oh, I'm fine." More like disturbing. That smile looked so out of place.... "Just a little bit disoriented. Cheshire has been helping me. Why are you out in the Tulgey Wood?"

More disconcerting than the way he was talking was the way he referenced the jungle. He was getting pulled into Cheshire's delusion....

Emerwyn was very concerned. She wasn't going to play along with Cheshire's game. She went straight to business.
She crawled closer to Julian.
"He did this to you." She tenderly touched one of his chest wounds. "Didn't he?"

His shoulders gave an awkward jerk as she touched him - startled? Nervous?

"...N-no. He would never hurt me...." He swallowed hard, the smile never leaving his face. "The others did this. The others. I didn't trust him, and they got to me. I have to trust him."

He moved his leg carefully, pulling it off of a rather uncomfortable stick. As he did this, the feeble glint of silver could be sighted in his pocket.
