And follow he would, even if it killed him. There was no way that 'shark bait' there was going to beat him at anything, even if it was in her own element. He nearly swallowed water a few times on his trek out with her. He was glad that he'd shed his heavier clothes on land when he had the chance and kicked his legs behind him swiftly. He had never known that he was this good in the water and he wondered if he could get the caravan to start parking near more rivers to get some practice in.

It wouldn't be until some time later that they had gone far enough to feel the water become warmer. Instead of the cool and murky darkness that had plagued the sea where they had entered, here the water became shades of slick grey, flashes of a flickering light piercing the surface of water. Whatever caused it, however, hadn't enough strength to fall through. The water became exceedingly warm with each stroke, and Odette pulled up, countenance wary.
"Ahh..." She looked uncertain, feeling the red warmth humming over her cheeks and shoulders. If she had broken the surface, she would have gotten a full view of this 'red sea', which was, in fact, an oil spill gone awry.
And had she broken the surface, she would have seen the boats bobbing across the way, among the flotsam that littered the water. Humans; those who did there all to put out this wonder that was only curious to Odette.
Looking over her shoulder, she feigned a smile; her mind was elsewhere. "You're not a bad swimmer for a two-legger. But a fin would do wonders."
"Anyway, see? Well...you kind of can't, can you? It's up there, though."
She squeezed her eyes shut and drifted away, arms raising to shield her face. Whatever that black miasma was...it was hurting her eyes. She rubbed them before looking again.

Yi Xian began to backtred, wanting to find a safe place to surface. There was something seriously wrong there but he couldn't see it for himself. When he was a good distance from the murky water he jerked towards the surface and inhaled hungrily, smoothing his fur back from his eyes so he could try to see what it was above the water. Even above the water the air was dark with smoke and he coughed, trying to gain a good breath before dunking aback down with Odette.
Silently he moved to the sea dragon girl and tapped on her shoulder, motioning for her to go back to a safer distance. He didn't know what caused the fire but it probably wasn't too heakthy to stay in that area for too long.

(( ;0 http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/26290206/ )) She pawed at her eyes one last time before she was tapped, starting slightly. She whipped around, gaze set on glare, before she realized what she was doing.
"So...what is it?" she asked, following after him, brows knit. The further away she got, the clearer the water became - she didn't feel so stifled anymore. She could almost feel bits of that black stuff clinging to the scales of her fin; she shuddered.
"Will it ever go away?" She wanted to surface herself to look at 'it', but 'it' had roared last time - she found it a little...frightening to say the least.

((My I didn't realize Yi Xian's tail looked quite so... phallic xd ))
The wolf coughed and cleared his throat as he continued to swim away from the 'red ocean'. He was feeling quite a bit better as they went further from the area and he relaxed so he could float on top of the water, closing his yellow eyes for an instant.
"If I'm not mistaken it's fire. I'm not sure just how it can burn on the water like that but it's likely something highly combustable that doesn't mix with water. Like oil or grease or something like that. But the amount that would have to be spilled on it..." He shook his head and turned over to give a few good strokes, taking him farther away from the blaze.
The dark furred wolf dipped under water and was relieved by the coolness of the free ocean. His ears flicked down towards his skull and he surfaced, not used to the pressure that it put on his head. Disconcerting to say the least.
"I'm not sure how it can be stopped..."

(( I KNOW! I didn't realize until AFTER I had colored it. My initial reaction: "... ninja " ))
She followed as if pulled by a line, wings flapping lazily against the tug of the ocean. His words sounded burbled when she was beneath water, echoey and distant, but it didn't last long; she broke the surface a little too close and back pedaled, listening with rapt attention.
"It was fascinating at first..." she began, brow knitting. "But then others started getting hurt. The elders told us to stay away, but you must know how curiosity is. That was when the injuries began - some creatures were killed."
"It certainly wasn't caused by us...that is a power we aren't capable of. So it must've been humans." Her once thoughtful timbre became all-knowing and she bobbed her head in agreement with herself.
"Just wait until the rains come. The rain solves everyone's problems!"

((I didn't realize it either until I looked at it closely, I love it.))
Yi Xian shook his head. "Rain might not stop it, after all it's on top of the water and there's bound to be plenty of waves that attempt to soak it right? Though you could be right, rain might make it better. I know it makes me feel better to stand out in the middle of it and just let it soak into me."
He smiled slightly and closed his eyes. Abruptly he 'sat up' and nearly swallowed water once more.
"Hey, you're a mermaid right? Does that mean that you can control water?"

Shinji appeared at the base of a tree, near the water's edge. He waited a moment before pulling Lena's aura to the spot, eager to be alone with her again.

Lena smiled brightly to Shinji as she appeared there next to him. After a moment, she leaned foward to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.

Shinji smiled softly as he felt her lips on his cheek. He turned his head to meet her eyes a moment before gazing out over the water. You know...we still haven't thought of a way to dress up for the masquerade, love...he purred, looking back to her when he finihsed his words.

Shinji shifted to sit with her, leaning against the tree some, shifting again to pull a CD from his pocket, which made it uncomfortable to sit. He chuckled to himself and shook his head. No...I haven't. But I was thinking that you should wear something purple. Purple looks beautiful on you...

"hmmm... I think I have an old ren fair costume that's black and purple... it was supposed to be a Juliet costume actually..." she turned to Shinji some and giggled a bit as she said with a smile "care to me my Romeo...?"

Shinji paused as he looked to Lena before smiling brightly and shifting to face her, bowing down in a mock renaissance way and taking her hand to kiss it. But of course, m'lady!
