I forget if that ever happened in the actual series. I doubt it
Suzaku in Zero outfit = endgame
And Euphie was not in the endgame stages...
Result = Authenticity doubtful...
Plus, Suzaku would definitely be blushing...

The reason a lot of people don't like mecha is because they're always a lot more psychological and drama-y than other action oriented anime. And they usually involve politics. They're usually for people who are more into the technical aspect of things.
Code Geass, however, had very little to do with the actual mecha. They could have replaced them with planes or tanks and it wouldn't have changed the story much. The political drama and geass ability were much more central to the story, whereas in something like Gundam (the original) the machs are central.
