I see, solid choices overall. I don't use most of the new types of shortcuts in W7, preferring to do things w/ good old fashioned keyboard shortcuts and such.

Indeed. I was talking to my wife the other day about W8, and said that the panels and such are just the start menu. As long as I treat it like that, then it works for me. I only keep tiles up to things I trust or use, and unpin everything else. There is no need to have a bazillion different tiles, just the ones that matter. I really only have five I need, and about as many that are there just because I am on the fence about like the calendar and such. IE is there only as an emergency online backup system. ninja
If Chrome goes down, I will need a second browser, and it came with the system.

Widgets and such are handy, but for some reason the Microsoft ones are terrible resource hogs. Easy example: Agent Ransack is a far better search utility than Windows Search, and it even integrates into Windows to replace the default Search.
Yeah, IE's good for a backup. FF is my main, w/ IE as my backup as well (uninstalling IE is more trouble than it's worth).

I used to be a fan of firefox . . . but ever since giving Chrome a chance, this has been my preference. FF crashed far too often on my sites. Chrome has very rarely crashed, and is extremely fast.

Chrome is a fine browser as well, I just prefer a wealth of customization options at my disposal (the "config mad " pages, if you're familiar with them). Chrome is faster overall, it also doesn't interact very nicely with the internet here considering I'm routing through 2 proxies.

My version of Chrome has but two alterations . . . a dark skin, and the pxlgrabber tool. That is just enough for me. sweatdrop
What kind of alterations do you go for?

I'll fully admit, Chrome not having a dark skin is a large part of why I don't use it. I like my screen to be as dark as possible and often opt to invert colors whenever possible as white-on-black is much easier on my eyes (especially when programming 40 hours per week).
I have AdBlock Plus, DownThemAll (better download manager than FF's default), SkipScreen (can often skip the wait screen on DL sites like MegaUpload and MediaFire), and Download Helper (great for DLing vids from sites like YouTube).
Is the PxlGrabber you mentioned an image-saving add-on for Chrome?

eek I have a dark skin for my Chrome, and it was free, as was Pxlgrabber . . . the latter is indeed a program to either make a whole screen or a defined area a jpg. When you want to do the defined area, there is a easy crop area that comes up.

I'm not usually one to mess with the visual layout of browsers too much, so it not having a dark option built-in (at least as long ago as I had tried it) meant I. I'm irrationally worried about a theme change affecting the performance of my browser, especially since my functional add-ons probably do more to worsen browser performance.
All right, neat. Screen-grabbing is useful.

Honestly, I have not seen any difference in my performance at all. The chrome skin was a very simple add-on, and it works just fine for me. Pxl grabber has been most effective on sites that counter the old right-click, save image bit. Gotten a few gems using the program. My only complaint is that the right border is not where the defined area sets, so you have to guestimate where the actual border for the cropped pic will be.

Ah, well that's good. Yeah, extensions are a grab bad of quality, but at least it mostly works for you.
Given the trouble it would be to switch browsers with the internet here, I'll stick with FF for now.

yeah. I never really ask a whole lot of my computers. Run the latest suite of Office, and surf the net really well . . . maybe a VERY occasional game. Starcraft II is fun! Of course, now I have to reinstall it on my system and redownload all the patches . . .
I am also considering saving up for the next part of Starcraft II . . . but several nifty toys are calling me as well. sweatdrop
choices.
What about you, my dear old friend? What are you up to anymore? We have spent far too long on my moaning.

If you ever get fed up with or don't want to pay for Office, OpenOffice and Libre Office are very good alternatives. Yeah, patches can be very large. All the patches for WarCraft 3 are half the size of the installed game.
Ah yes, I'll look into getting SC2 when the Protoss chapter comes out, since then all 3 parts will have been released.
Ehh... Not much, honestly. I live a pretty mundane/boring/repetitive life overall... I am greatly looking forward to the HD remake of "The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker" being released this Friday.

i have to use Office documents for school, or so I am told . . . it is a pain in the a**, and I really don't want to repay for it again . . . but have little choice.
I only have the first bit, the Terran campaign, and it is quite pleasing. I do suggest getting your hands on it if at all possible. I also am trying to get my hands on the Zerg section, but that is just a want, not a need.
Odd that Zelda never grabbed me. I don't know why, it just seems "eh" to me.

The programs I mentioned can handle Office formats, but you might as well keep w/ Office if you still have it.
I'm waiting until all 3 are out in hopes of a discount, as the $180 combined price tag of buying each as it comes out is too much for me to rationalize.
Link to the Past and Wind Waker are my favorites. I'm ultimately a Sega fan, but since the DreamCast died, I've been with Nintendo. Are you a fan of any Sega or Nintendo IP/franchise?
