"I'm sure," Toby said with a nod, "We'll just have to give him a call. Seamus might come too." Did Lori have today off? He usually did, didn't he? He was glad Maia had become fond of one of his good friends either way.

Maia smiled. She was always glad to see Lori, and Seamus! She'd thoroughly enjoyed having the cat sidhe over for thanksgiving weekend. "I'll give him some tuna," she said.

"I'm sure he'd rather have cake," Toby said. He began to skate slightly side to side, still trying to teach Maia by making her do it. Dari was now skating beside them without the help of the wall.
"I'm not sure Lori would like that, though," the alien said.

"Sweets aren't very good for cats," she said. "But I bet you're right." Seamus wasn't really a cat anyway. Fae were immune to a number of things.
She let go of Toby's hand, trying to keep up with Toby.

Toby slowed just a bit so Maia wouldn't have to exert herself too much and tired quickly. This activity was killer on the ankles and calves and he wasn't sure how much being fae protected her against exhaustion or lactic acid.
"Well, I'm sure we can make an exception for your birthday either way."

"Who, Seamus? He's been visiting for years and he hasn't pooped in the houseplants yet. He also didn't sabotage Thanksgiving, so I like to think he likes it." Toby allowed her to take his hand again, figuring it was less for stability than comfort. "Is there anyone else you want to call?"

Maia looked puzzled. "You said he hadn't come over before I invited him to your party," she said. "We can invite Luca, too." She'd be sure to offer Seamus cake. Birthdays were only once a year.

"He hadn't for my birthday..." Toby mused. Now the sidhe came to everything. Lori said every invitation he got on the weekend, Seamus seemed to assume was for him as well. "Do you like Luca?"

"He liked the party." Seamus had seemed to enjoy thanksgiving as well. "Yeah, he's nice. Makes Lori happy." Talked a bit too much about books, but at least he was opening up some. "Why?"

"Mm." Toby nodded. He knew she'd been scrapbooking with him the other day. Apparently there had been some trouble in paradise too but Toby wasn't sure he should share with a vengeful selkie. "If you want him to come we can invite him, sure." Hopefully said trouble was fixed enough that it wouldn't be awkward.

Maia paused. She studied Toby, frowning in concern. "You don't want him?" she asked. She moved closer to Toby. "He told me he gave his Christmas present to Lori early. I still don't know what you'd like."

"What? No! I like him too. I was just curious."
Later, after so much laughter and the occasional fall and bruise, Toby, Dari and Maia stripped down to single layers and jackets and headed off to dinner as a nice casual joint where they sang a silly 'happy birthday' song to Maia and gave her a free scoop of ice cream. As embarrassing as he knew it would be, Toby wanted Maia to have that experience at least once. He'd called Luca and Lori by then and then headed home to wait for them. They'd barely made it when there came a prompt knock on the door and a loud yowl.
Birthdays meant cake, and Seamus was determined to get cake.

Maia opened the door. "Hi guys! Hi Seamus!" She bent down to scoop the cat sidhe up. "I have cake for you," she said, petting him. "C'mon in," she added, smiling at the two elves.
"She stole your cat again," Luca observed with a smile. He took Lori's hand.

Seamus meowed in greeting and helped Maia pick him up by leaping into her arms. Cake?! Cake! He yelled loudly and stretched his head for the kitchen.
"Not yet!" Toby yelled from said kitchen, "I'm just putting on the finishing touches!"
"He's only kind of my cat," Lori said with a broad smile. He swung Luca's hand slightly. "He can spell, you know. Have I never shown you?"
