Natsumi paused, eyes drifting to her food. It took her a second to get it, but it probably would have done so for anyone, forign or not. Maybe later it would hit home a bit more, but for now only so much would regester as familiar. Despite her more recent birthday and graduation she was still just a teenager.
She nodded a bit to what he said though, to show she had indeed understood it, atleast on a verbal level. "I came for a job as a translator. But..." Her eyes moved over the scales on her arms. "I got a little more than I.. bargained for..." it was an old saying she had picked up from tourists, and she only hoped she'd said it right... The questioning tone of her voice towards the end showed that vauge nerviousness towards the end.

Translating. His reasons weren't so noble. He had come because he was selfish.
Ian knew the saying and he grinned hearing it from the Japanese girl. "I haven't heard that phrase in a long time." He hoped his deerish smile was reassuring and took another bite. When he swallowed, he spoke again: "How long have you studied English?" She was really good, almost better than himself likely.
"And where are you from?" he also found himself asking. His father was Vietnamese, but Ian had looked nothing like him. Only his younger brother had looked like he was related to an Asian. His father also spoke English all the time even to the extent of taking his wife's last name when he married an American girl.

Natsumi wouldn't ever state her real reason for coming... Her real reason was rather selfish, though she told herself it was to keep from shaming her family... it was only to keep form shaming herself. Either way it was her secret... Only the doctors knew.
She smiled when the saying was reconized, a bit outdated but reconized none the less. She took another bite, twirling her fork in the remaining salad as she continued their conversation. Vaugly noticing how wonderful it was to speak to people again... Dressed people. "I learned some from tourists where I lived... the rest I learned in school. 8 years..." She tried to remember, it surely hadn't been 8 years straight... but she had focused on it. "I learned some german also."
She took another sip of water, "I am from Japan." she figured she wouldn't go into towns and regions unless he asked.

"8 years is a long time." Ian didn't think he could ever study one subject for 8 years. He was enjoying himself talking to Natsumi and he drank the last of his apple juice. And she was from Japan. That was good enough for Ian. "I'd never left the states. Born in Minnesota, I later moved to New Jersey." He wondered if she knew what he was talking about, but he hadn't ever talked to anyone else about where he was born before.
"If this island isn't in the US, this is my first time out of the country." And I am stuck here forever, not how I thought I'd visit other countries, he couldn't help but think with a wry smile on his face. "The helicopter ride was scary. I don't like flying."

She nodded some, 8 years probably was a long time... Atleast she had other subjects mixed in with it. "I hadn't left until I came here... I did get to see.. Florida, I think... That was on my way here." she pondered over the history of her trip... It had been a really miserable one. She hardly got time for any food, and got more nausious than she ever had been in her life, and then it was off to the island for the first time meeting her new employers. If they were still her employers she was unsure...
"I got sick on most of the trip..." she sympathized, it had been her first time flying and not a fun one. So she figured she didn't like it either, though she might have if situations had been different.

Ian grimaced as she said she got sick. Since becoming a deer he had new ideas on what was 'sick' and not. He had to 'barf' up his food everyday as part of digestion, so he no longer considered that sick, though it was probably the sick that Natsumi was describing.
"I never traveled because I was busy working." His parents had been the same way. After his father had died his mother worked all the time to support her and the two children, and when he dropped out of high school he had started working to help her out.
But his mind kept wandering back to her getting sick on the flights and he resisted making a comment about turning into a deer.

Natsumi wouldn't have known what he was talking about if he had mentioned it, she had heard something of cows having more than one stomach but other than that she was naive in the ways of herbavore's eating habits.
"My family had wanted to see America... We were never able to leave the city though." She smiled some, looking towards her food with a hint of saddness in her expression. She missed them already, though she'd never say anything. She didn't feel she had anything to compare to the other islanders here. She took another bite, noticing the bottum of her bowl was growing closer.

Ian could understand not wanting to talk about the past much so he searched his mind for other topics, the first coming to mind being other islanders.
"So, have you met. . ." he searched his mind for a name. "Colche? She is turning into a cheetah. Nice girl, but she doesn't really understand the concept of clothing."

"Colche?" Natsumi echoed, the name sounded familiar.. Clothing. Thats when it hit her. Natsumi flushed a bit, almost looking guilty. She quickly stuffed another bite of salad into her mouth, giving a nod to say she had met her.
After a few moments of chewing, she swallowed, deciding to add something more than a nod. "Yes, she was nice..."

Ian nodded absently, not noticing that Natsumi didn't seem at ease speaking of Colche. He was too busy trying not to regurgitate his salad. It would be very rude, and disgusting to the girl eating by him.
It was a losing battle. He couldn't stop it forever. Grabbing his empty (when had that happened?) plate he quickly hobbled over and took care of it forgetting in his haste that he had a cane. As he passed the table again he grabbed it and clenched it in his hand with a pained look on his face. "perhaps. . .perhaps we could talk another time. I have a certain. . .affliction that comes with being a deer that prevents me from lingering any longer." He swallowed and felt his stomach (or one of them) clenching. "Another time definately." He smiled briefly and hobbled out of the cafeteria before Natsumi had time to reply. He would apologize the next time they met, when he would explain why he left so suddenly.

Natsumi finished her last bite, watching as Ian left, then came back for the cane. She looked a bit lost as he left, but offered a wave and a half hearted "Okay" as he dissapered through the doors.
She shrugged it off, something about being a deer. She wasn't sure if it was something she should have known or not, but either way.. it was getting late, and she was done eating.
She stood, cleaning up her area, before heading outside and back to her room, mentally deciding she'd have to try and meet more people and make the most out of being here.

~ New RP ~
Natsumi held her hand over her mouth as she yawned, free hand used to push open the doors to the cafeteria. Her hands quickly returned to fuss over that mostly unnoticable swell of her stomach, but it seemed like it was only getting larger every day... Today, she wore a baggy sweater and one of her cute knee-length skirts, todays theme was bunnies.
Almost looking caustious, she glanced around the cafeteria, brushgin a lock of hair from her face and moving foreward to see what strange new food was on todays menu. "Omlette..." she read over the specials menu, she vaugly remembered having some of those back home. Carefully grabbing her pre-made one and nabbing herself a seat to enjoy the meal.
Her mind breifly wandered over the new people she was meeting.. feeling a bit more comfortable with the island was nice. Maybe she would get to see one of them for breakfast? Or someone new.

Tired from his escapades at the beach the day before, Alec was about ready to refuel at the cafeteria for his most cherished meal of the day. He could already smell the cooked eggs before he even entered through the doors to the cafeteria, heading atraight for the food counter as if there was somesort of line up to beat. He could see the omelettes, but he wanted meat.
"Aye..." He remarked when he finally turned towards the eating area with a stackful of sausage and a lil bowl of fruit. He didn't recognize the woman sitting ther and assumed she wouldn't mind company as he sat himself down at the same table. He'd brought a fistful of napkins as well, so as to save himself from the embarassment his funny teeth often caused while attempting to eat.

Natsumi had been bussy fiddling with the somewhat messy food, apparently having trouble picking out a small bite with her fork and knife, the cheese seemed to be giving her the most problems... and in the mean time, as the cheese ran rampid a few other filligns would excape and she'd have to stuff them back in with her fork.
She almost jumped when she heard a voice, she'd been so preoccupied in her omelette fight.. "Good morning." she smiled, cheerfully, the smile only widening as she seemed to free herself a bite and eagerly stuffed it in her mouth.

The teen made himself comfort as he prepared to dig into his pile of food, readying the utensils and properly positioning the plate on the table. "Top o' th'mornin teh'ye." He responded contently as well, more of a joke than a serious greeting he'd often used.
"Yanno, a' keep tellin 'em t'make mo' sausages n' th'mornin. A' 'ate eggs, they make me sick n' th'gut." He went ahead and mumbled to the stranger about his quams with the caf lady, not minding that she was unfamiliar. In a place like this, he considered everyone a friend or possibly a sibling until proven otherwise, even if he didn't know their names yet. "Unless theh scrambled o' somethin." The last comment was uttered low in mid-bite as he dug in.
