Thom gratefully accepted the chair, sinking down on it and reaching over to retrieve his glass of water. Water was water, and water it would always be. It was safe enough. After downing half the glass, he set it back down and waved away Rex's apology, shaking his head. "Perfectly understandable. An' thank you. Good thing y' came along, eh?" He cracked a grin, finally breathing normally once more, and glanced over towards the door. "Did someone else come in?"

Rex blushed a little, unsure if the man even realized he tried to rip out his throat while poor Thom was choking to death. At least that would've solved the little hamburger problem, now wouldn't it?
"Yeah... Zach walked in. Saw you choking, and walked out. That b-uh..." He stopped himself short of saying the word 'b*****d', Rex only cussed when something really bad happened. Like when Amaya collapsed after changing in the middle of the jungle during a rainstorm, that was a moment worthy of cussing. Not to mention Rex was angry at Zach, but still felt as though he should be the bigger man and appologize to mend their bad blood.

Zach, Zach... Thom didn't think he had met this 'Zach' yet. "Terribly thoughtful of him, I'm sure," Thom replied dryly, frowning towards the door. Scooping up his glass, he down the rest of the water, then climbed somewhat shakily for his feet. "I'm goin' to 'ead back t' my duplex, I think. Don't 'ave much appetite after that, y'know. Thanks again for your 'elp." Nodding to Rex, he picked up the tray and carried it over to be cleaned, then started for the door. "I'm in duplex 45 if y'need anythin'," he added, then slipped outside and was off.

"Yeah, I don't really have one either." He, too, came to his feet and cleared his dishes to the kitchen in the back. "I'm in 35 if you ever need any help as well. I'm sure I'll see you around bud." He was tired and just hit his decline from the rush rather quickly. Rex fumbled home to his duplex and flopped on his bed.

~New RP~
Ian hobbled into the cafeteria and grimaced. He hated having to use a cane, it was such a pain. And for the millionth time since his change he wondered why he had to have the misfortune of a bad transformation.
At the counter he eyed the selection of salads and fruit before loading his plate with an oriental looking salad (vegetarian of course), and grabbing an apple juice. Somehow maanaging to balance his plate on a single hand/hoof he sat down at the nearest table, hunching over his food due to his thicker neck and chest. Life sucked right now, and he figured that perhaps he had to stop being so self conscious, after all, other people were turning into worse things, though that didn't cheer him up much.

Crunchy, Crunchy... Her mind repeated at her, leading her to the cafeteria to find something to fill that sudden craving. Though a few bugs on the way over had once again seemed appealing, those urges were pushed aside, and the sight of the salads seemed much more pleasing.
Eagerly she wandered over to the selection, nabbing a plate and piling on a variety of fruits and veggies, piling it up a bit higher than it looked like someone her size would need, and then topping it off with one of the tarter sauces.
Finished, she hurried away from the set-up, worried she might get in someone's way if they were going to chose. Next.. seating... She scanned over the area, fairly used to the way the islanders looked now... It suprised her how fast she had gotten used to it, save for Colche.

Ian watched from the corner of his eye as the female entered the cafeteria. Looking at her he decided that he had never met her before. Reclusive as he was, there were lots of people he had never met, even ones that had been around to change at least a few times.
He watched as she gathered food, eating his salad awkwardly with a fork he could barely hold decently. It seemed she was into vegetables as well.
Swallowing the bite he was chewing Ian hesitated before speaking. "If you um. . .want company, you can sit over here." Perhaps the deer was craving some company, he hadn't seen many people since his latest change.

"Hm?" she smiled some as a voice caught her attention, eagerly taking the invitation she almost skipped over to get herself a seat infront of the deer man. She tried to refrain from staring as she tried to place what animal he was, but that had almost become a hobby as she saw each person.. She wasn't a big animal fannatic, so it was always a fun thing when she knew one and.. she was fairly sure she knew this one.
"Thankyou." she quickly added, before taking a small bite out of her own food... While she was hugnry, it would be impropor to take too big of bites therefore she stuck to the tiny ones. She'd eventually finish it no matter how she ate it.. so no need to rush. And it was definatly nice to have clothed company. "I'm Tanaka, Natsumi..." Her japanese accent always seemed to shine through every time she introduced herself.. Perhaps it was the fact she had been so used to saying it back home.

Ian blicked at her accent. He could tell she was Asian, but could not place her heritage being the sheltered American guy he was. And the way she introduced himself. . .he wasn't sure, but didn't sometimes some Asian people introduced themselves with their family name first. So was her name Natsumi, or Tanaka? He didn't know enough about her or Asian names to tell.
"Er, I am Ian Campbell" He didn't try to reach out to shake her hand. He knew enough to know that that would be foreign to her maybe. "Forgive my asking, but do you know what you are becoming?" There was nothing familiar to him in her features that he could place to an animal.

Natsumi swollowed her last bite of food as he spoke, smiling some to show she didn't mind the quesiton. "I am unsure... But..." She held out her arm to show off the scales "I also have a tail. And a strange thing on my feet..." She looked to the table as though she could see through it and her shoes to the whatever it was that had appeared on her feet.
Though now that he had asked her.. he surely wouldn't mind her asking a simmalar question. "And you... A... Uhm. Deer, yes?" English words for animals had eluded her buisness training, and she seemed a bit worried that she may have mixed up some words.

Some sort of reptile. Of course, the labtechs seemed fond of reptiles.
"yeah, a deer." though he had never been formally told, Ian had been reading books and figured out what type he was becoming. "I have a tail, though it is very small." He wondered briefly how the other people could handle having a longer tail and his ears twitched because he could not picture himself having a longer tail. "Except my last change went weird." he gestured to the cane resting against the table. "One of my legs changed more than the other so I can't walk properly." He hated it, he wanted to be able to walk properly again, even if it meant another change.

The tail had become cumbersome... rolling over on it in her sleep always hurt, and other various mistakes that had be fallen the poor thing. It wasn't a very mobile tail, just sat or hung there for the most part.
Natsumi nabbed another bite of salad as she listened intently, frowning as he reached the part about his leg. "Aa... That is unfortunate." Though it didn't sound as though she cared, she honestly did. The look on her face showed a bit more than her words. "Perhaps... Lift under foot? I mean..." she frowned, finding no word for what she wanted to say. "My brother had one once to fix the way he had stood." She held her hand up, holding it flat in the air "His foot..." she explained, then placed her other under it. "Then lift."
She settled her hands to her lap, waiting to see if what she was trying to say would get through. Yay for language barriers... Still, she was more than happy for them. It helped inprove on her language.

Then Ian understood a bit. He had wrongly assumed that everyone Moreau brought in would understand English, but Natsumi (he had decided since it became obvious that English was not her best language) was still learning. He hoped he hadn't said anything that she wouldn't understand, but if she didn't understand she would say so, right?
"I have a cane." In fact, the deer-man didn't even know the proper name for something that would lift the foot or leg. "Besides, Dr. Lockheart" (he hoped she knew who Aubrey was) "said that it should be fixed when I change again."

"Ah, That is good." she smiled, she was fairly good with english... as long as one stuck to buisness terms. Her training had stayed specified to that, and not things like animals or things for your shoes. Perhaps if she had her dictionary with her she would have faired better in the awkward territory.
She Took another bite, then a sip of the water she had nabbed as well. Her mind tried to find a new bit of conversation.. something she was more familiar with. "Why did you come to the Island?" Yes, that would do...

The deer frowned. He had realized that the reason he came to the island was completely stupid. Had he just stayed at home he would have been still working at a grocery store, he might have gotten a girlfriend, he would still be able to talk to his younger brother who would have just finished his first year of law school.
Without thinking, he gave an answer, but it was cryptic and Natsumi might not understand. "I came here because of what I was told it was. I thought it was something I wanted, but coming here taught me that even what I had thought I wanted wasn't really what I wanted."
He'd been there for about 10 months, and during that time he had grown to know himself and for the first time in his life, get real friends. It made him wonder that if he hadn't come, would all this have happened? "Why are you here?"
