"Stop, stop, it's for you!" Toby said with a chuckle. "I figured I'd eat something quick before we headed out. Dari's still painting up anyway." There was a chance they might stay out past dark, so the projector was not an option.

So he hadn't eaten. Hm. He'd gotten up early to make her something special. She scooted closer to him, nestling, and began to eat. "Have you ever taken Dari iceskating?"

Toby leaned over on Maia while she ate and then shook his head.
"No. I used to go when I was human. It was a normal winter thing back before the whole tech age. Dari's never gone. I told him to strengthen his ankles, but I have no idea how."

"The ocean doesn't freeze," Maia said, as she finished her breakfast. Once done She wiped her mouth with a hand. She kissed his cheek. "I've seen snow, but it's not the same as the pictures I've seen on Google. It always mixes with the sand and gets all dirty." Awful for snowmen.

"Well then I hope it snows a lot. Not too much, though. Just enough." He wanted to be able to fly out, after all. "It's good snow out there. Nice white packed-in stuff usually."

Maia set the tray aside, stood and stretched. She imagined warm clothes would probably be best. She started pulling out a shirt and a pair of leggings. "Get dressed," she said, glancing back at him. "You can teach me to ice skate if you're not too rusty."

"I'm probably pretty rusty," Toby admitted with a grin. "Wear layers, but nothing too hard to take off. It'll be cold at the rink but not really outside. We won't go anywhere fancy for dinner, though. Unless you want to? We could always stop home first and get dressed again." He started to pack the layers on and snuffled as he started to heat up.
"Alright, are you ready?"

Maia smiled at him, dressed in layers. She offered him her hand. "Ready," she said. "Let's go make sure Dari's properly attired." The alien didn't have a boiling point, at least, if he did it was a ridiculously high one, but maybe he could get cold.
She led him downstairs. "Dari! Are you ready?"

Dari emerged from the hall straightening the cuff of his sweater. It was all dreadfully uncomfortable, but one had to keep up appearances. He smiled and nodded.
"Sure. I'm going to fall over."
"Don't worry," Toby assured him with a little laugh, "So will we."

"We can fall together," she grinned at Dari. "Where's the rink? I don't think I've ever seen it."

"It's a little bit out of the way. They use it for hockey tournaments and things but off-season it's just for people like us," Toby said as he grabbed his keys.
Dari just shrugged. "I've never seen it either."

"No, it's your birthday," Dari said as he climbed into the back seat of the car. "You choose what we do."
"Now just remember, if slimebag ends up bending at the shins we need to act like he's broken them and carry him off dramatically."
"I am going to fuse my endoskeleton when I have the boots on. I should be fine."
"Well good. Just keep your knees and ankles loose."
"Of course."

"We'll choose together then," she decided, sitting in the passenger seat. She grinned at Toby. "You carry him dramatically, I'll watch." She was glad Dari had taken precautions, though. She didn't want him in danger.

"Alright. Just don't take pictures when I then fall over and legitimately break my own shins."
When they got to the rink, Toby rented three pairs of skates and sat down on the bench to put his on. "Tie them tight," he reminded his companions, and then showed them how to walk to the entrance of the rink itself. He had Maia on one hand and Dari on the other, and he stepped out backwards.
"Alright, are you ready?"
