 Just have to get through the rest of today's shift and then tomorrow (since I'm covering the Front Desk for my co-receptionist). And hopefully have energy to do the Fair on Tuesday... then finally I'll be able to get back to my regular schedule.

The woman stepped forward causing the ray of light coming through a hole in the roof to land over her.
Negan sucked in a breath of surprise. "Lila?!"
"Wait, you know her?" said Daryl, shifting to look over at the taller man with confusion.
Negan turned to look at him in shock. "I think I should be the one asking that."
"Yes, yes," interrupted Lila, before the two men could continue. "I know both of you. As exciting as the idea is, if the two of you pull out your d*cks just to prove a point, I'm whacking both of you in the head with the bat."
Daryl shifted in discomfort but kept eyeing Negan with distrust. Negan just smirked at him in mischief before turning to look at Lila.
"What are you doing here, sweetheart?" asked Negan. "Last time I saw you, you were heading out back West."
"I did... and circumstances brought me back," answered Lila. "Amazing how much can be done in a few years. And what people you meet along the way." Her eyes shifted over towards Daryl. "Life been good to you?"
After a moment, Daryl simply nodded in response. She smiled at him in relief.
"So, you know Daryl..." said Negan. "But it seems like you didn't tell him about knowing me."
"Oh, I talked about you," said Lila. "Just not by name. I'm sure you can undestand. Your name has a certain... vibe to it. One that isn't always the best to be connected with."
Negan lowered his head and nodded.
"Wait," said Daryl, looking at her. "You... your not saying that... he's your husband?!"
"Surprise!" said Lila, spreading her arms wide and smiling.

"I still can't believe you married that jackass," muttered Daryl, glaring at Negan ahead of them through his hair that fell over his face.
"You got to know a different version of him than I did. I mean... sure, Negan is Negan. But you've got to know that the Savior leader Negan is so different from my lover and friend Negan. If you had the chance to get to know *my* Negan, I am sure the two of you would be best of buds." Lila shrugged. "I'm sorry I wasn't as forthcoming on who I was married to. But you understand why I kept that detail quiet."
Daryl glanced over at Lila, watching her as they continue their way down the abandoned railroad tracks. Eventually, he nodded and briefly smiled. "Yeah, I get it. You were just trying to stay alive."
A comfortable silence fell between for a moment. Lila looked up around at the trees as they passed them.
"Do... did... Do you still love him?" asked Daryl.
Lila looked over at him and smiled. "Yes. Probably even more so now than I did before. Helps that he's not having to put on that Savior persona anymore. I get why you and your group hated him so much. I hated that side of Negan sometimes too."
Daryl hummed in response.
"Just know that my marriage to Negan... it wasn't like all of those other 'wives' of his. I wasn't forced, so to speak, to marry him to guarantee safety or help ease punishment on someone else who broke his rules. No. It was all me. There was a spark I found with him... and I wasn't going to lose it. I made sure he knew I wasn't going to be some trophy wife sitting up in a room in a black dress and heels. I would have the name of Wife like them but I would be going out on runs and what not like the rest of his team. Like him."
"Were you there when... when my group arrived?"
"I was there when you were taken captive," said Lila. "It's how I knew I could trust you when we crossed paths again. But..." She sighed as she got lost in the memories. "Negan knew something was changing. He didn't express outwardly to the rest of his group at the time because he didn't want panic to ruin what he had put together. And he knew I had plans of going back West to try to find my family and friends - if they were still alive... so he subtlety hinted that he was giving me permission to go on that mission. Well... not so subtlely. I was picking up on the signs myself too."

Gonna go home and try to finish the book I'm reading right now. I had thought it would be an enjoyable dark romance book... but it's just disappointing me so much.
