Noire's bio is ******** up, but it has a lot of historical background in it. He's also philosophically consistent, something that creeped me out after rereading some of his stuff 10 years after it was written, and seeing elements of Schopenhauer, Hume, and Berkeley in his philosophical outlook.

So, perhaps I should make a spiderling, I have a Naga-type in the works, a minotaur. A harpy would be cool, but hard to work with with time-outs for flying.

Hmm... a gargoyle, perhaps. Like, from the disney show. o.O

-thinking of out-there creatures, now-

Hmm...

It's hard the think of something non-humanoid that could make for a legitimate fighter.

I like the Disney style Gargoyle idea.

I miss that show.

However, I think this argument pertains more to 'you are a bad roleplayer' than to 'this character design is unique'. Fleshing out your character based on where he/she comes from should be a basic skill that everyone develops as they become a better writer; as is creating a more detailed setting for fictional backdrops.

I do my best to have all my characters reflect their individual backgrounds in ways that make them unique.

Though that argument falls through when your character is 'an exception to the rule' type.

Call me a bad RPer, but I can't do that. My characters have a general history, but the culture that they reflect on...it really comes to me as I play them. When a cultural thing pops up in Gaia, that's when I determine what it was like back there for her.

The details like that are a build-as-you go thing, IMO. The task of creating an entire culture for your character is daunting, so what I do is come up with generalities, the important bits that you'll play, and leave the rest to be fleshed out.

Takes less than a minute. The only reason I ever take the time to do it is because I hate having a word misspelled and selecting it over another word. gonk

I meant more along the lines of 'finding the words that are misspelled'. I don't remember what I've accidentally added, and don't want to go searching for it through -every word in the english language-.

I've got a Dryad. Granted, it was for Stryphe's arpee that seemed to have been forgotten about. I did make a few plans to get the character mainstream worthy though.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I have one there too.

An asexual plant-creature that doesn't eat, drink, sleep, or any of the other things that we animals take for granted.

which might change things in the game with NPCs, like the D&D reaction tables.

That's actually a very interesting way to go about it... Referring to charisma as an elemental status rather than just a stat point because a person with high charisma is going to be influential, strong-willed, and will inspire others around them with the ideals that they represent. Being as symbol is something else entirely than simply being persuasive, which is what most applications of the charisma stat seem to relate to.

Though it doesn't necessarily mean that a charismatic person would not also be narrow-minded. It just means that they are strong-willed and able to inspire others.

Modifying 'vs angel' and 'vs demon' to be good and evil is a good way to handle paladin abilities that focus on evil but not being anti-demon. And if there's some way that conversations can be influenced according to the status effecting something then it might work to implement charisma in some way using that.

But considering that conversations are pre-scripted you'd probably be better off using an if/then statement when determining what options are available to a character with a certain charisma score and alignment.

Make a Dryder!

1) What's a Dryder?
2) I think a disney-style Gargoyle with the ability to stone-shift essentially at will would be kinda badass.

Lavelle: Yeah, he did a great job with that. That show was pretty freakin awesome.

Flayer: I would go with the Gargoyle, they are freakin awesome.

Oh no, thats not it at all. In fact, if you do what that page tells you, it brings you only to words that YOU added to the dictionary and 9 times out of 10 they're the misspelled words. :3

A Dryder is an Underdark creature. An unwholesome coupling of a Drow male and a giant Spider fused together by evil magic

No, what's really daunting is scripting a unique and internally-consistent language for character's background.

If I had my notes on hand I'd whip up a sentence or two for you but I have them in a spiral notebook rather than computer files.

What worked out for me was building up the grammatical structure first and then filling in words as-needed while keeping a list to make sure I didn't re-use any. I have a pool of unused words on hand so I can apply them quickly without having to come up with a word on the spot, but it's a daunting project and I hardly ever work on it.

Working around all the necessary terms for a base-5 counting system was easier than I thought it would be though.

Summary: It's a centaur with a drow upper instead of human and a spider lower instead of horse.
