That's why I add words to my spellchecker when I use them often.

Though I don't know how to delete words from it. crying

Not sure if seen. Tis a fix to the words that are misspelled.

Yeah, other than Fen the only dwarves I've seen on this site were NPCs.

There are a lot of PC races out there, but most of them are either humanoid or humanoids that have some sort of monster transformation. Not a lot of people play things that don't have two arms, two legs, and a head.

Something you don't see often is a character who derives their background from a distinct, fleshed out culture.

Even cultures parallel to historical ones, such as Ancient Greeks. Sure, you occasionally see someone copy the Spartans (badly...), but you never see people draw the larger, and more minute influences of parallel cultures that would shape a person's worldview and make them unique on Gaia.

Species is equally a big factor, but cultural background alone can be enough to set a character apart from others.

No, didn't see it.

Though that seems like a lot of work. I think I'll just live with the mistakes.

Takes less than a minute. The only reason I ever take the time to do it is because I hate having a word misspelled and selecting it over another word. gonk

I've got a Dryad. Granted, it was for Stryphe's arpee that seemed to have been forgotten about. I did make a few plans to get the character mainstream worthy though.

I'm here, and such.

Though I don't really have any programming knowledge outside of what you can do on a TI-83.

I'm using a political science theory to build the charisma stat for the paladin in RPG maker,

my professor said "You are not your ideas", and then talked a lot about What a symbol was - she said it represented ideas, and that a Flag was a Symbol, because it represented a collection of ideas. I concluded people tend to get along because they have things in common, such as similar views about things, likes, and shared experience.

So anyway, I also concluded a paladin would be a "symbol" because they represented several ideas, like chivalry and virtue. I realized recently that Charisma could be expressed in a video game by giving more charismatic characters more "ideas" at higher levels.

By representing an idea strongly, you also become the enemy of the opposite - i.e., there's no Charismatic people without Enemies, ranging from Hitler to Jesus to Gandhi to Martin Luther King.

I found RPGmaker has a whole list of "elements" like "fire, wind, thunder" but also "light, darkness, vs. angel, vs. demon, vs. beasts" etc. When you switch angel for "good" and demon for "evil", it suddenly looks like a giant list of ideas. You can also add new "elements", like "natural" "technological" and so forth. Each one of these has a built in ranking system from 1-6, with 1-2 being weak vs.
3 being neutral,
4-5 being strong vs.
and 6 basically BEING that thing. (like casting fire on a fire elemental).

I got the idea that these could be considered ranges of "pro/con", and by simply giving characters a couple of ideas, or "affinities" every so many CHA points, they could become strong symbols of various ideas,

which might change things in the game with NPCs, like the D&D reaction tables.

Very carefully.

...that would be my stock response to something like this but I think you'd probably have to go with more drapery than something like pants where you'd have to slip the legs through. Like how horses for jousting matches were sometimes dressed up with cloths that were basically a sheet thrown over it with a neck hole. Wearing a type of skirt over the back would be one way of going about it, otherwise a loincloth might work. But I'd imagine since pants and any wrapping on the legs would be a hassle it'd probably be best to wear coverings on the back, flanks, and such areas rather than form-fitting clothes.

That would work.

but you never see people draw the larger, and more minute influences of parallel cultures that would shape a person's worldview and make them unique on Gaia.

However, I think this argument pertains more to 'you are a bad roleplayer' than to 'this character design is unique'. Fleshing out your character based on where he/she comes from should be a basic skill that everyone develops as they become a better writer; as is creating a more detailed setting for fictional backdrops.

I do my best to have all my characters reflect their individual backgrounds in ways that make them unique.

Though that argument falls through when your character is 'an exception to the rule' type.

Then if you decide to use the center of the galaxy as your frame of reference.......... eek

I think any time magician should have to know the greatest possible frame of reference. That would end all characters with control of time. The way time is moved so much around, the gods must automatically compensate for what we don't know and set us in the right spot, or else Gaia would no longer be a part of... infinity.

sweatdrop
If you watched the sad little movie about the group of people that jump around, and teleport, I think that it's similar.

They would need a frame of reference.

Because different points in time would have different rates of speed of rotation. It isn't a constant, over time it would fluctuate.

There is a religion that grants extra body parts as a sign of devotion, and reward for service.

And I thought the whole Chaos God thing from Warhammer involved mutation with exposure to the warp through psyker connections?

Flutter: Only the lucky get mutated, lower on the totem pole = less monster.
