They should find something to do in New England. How big was the vacation home? Toby hadn't said much about it yet. Would they have private time? He was imagining a massage. Maybe he'd pick up some scented oil. Was Luca into that kind of stuff?
...but who didn't want a massage?

"But then we're right back to you again," Lori teased, giving Luca a wink.
Maia's birthday was not far off at all, and on the day Toby was surprisingly able to talk Maia into staying in bed. It didn't take long for him to come up with Belgian waffles, fresh fruit and whipped cream, orange juice and a side of eggs just like she liked them. He'd had to buy a breakfast-in-bed tray specifically for this occasion. He brought it up with a little wrapped envelope. The paper was black with HAPPY BIRTHDAY written all over it in blue.
"Good morning, love!"

Maia rubbed an eye when Toby walked in. He'd asked her to go back to bed, and she had--intending to read a book. The warmth of their comforter had made her drowsy. She gave Toby a smile. "Good morning," she chimed.
She studied the tray before her. "Are you going to help me with this?" she asked, gesturing to the tray and took the envelope. She opened it.

"Nope, it's all yours," Toby said, although a little in-bed feeding wouldn't be denied. He hopped up next to Maia, still only in his boxers, and watched her open her gift.
Inside was a coupon for a free couples' day at the spa. Toby had added the second person purely because he was pretty sure Maia would freak out if she had to get a massage alone.

Maia started to cut up her waffles and offered him a bite. "A spa day, huh? You'll come with?" She'd wanted a day with him. What did people do at the spa, anyway? Get nails done and everything? She leaned in to kiss his cheek. "I lo ve you."

Toby accepted a mouthful of waffle and continued lounging beside Maia.
"Sure, if you want me to. You could bring anyone." But he was pretty sure you had to get mostly naked for the massage. "I love you too! You'll get a massage and a facial and a pedicure, and I bet we could get them to do your nails too, if you like." He paused and then fanned his fingers out. "Our nails."

"I don't want anyone," she said, looking to him. Just Toby. She took a bite of waffle, chewed, swallowed, and grinned at him. "I don't know what half those things are." But Toby getting his nails done appealed to her; it'd be funny. She took another bite.
"When do we go?"

"Really?" What did she know about? Hey, who cared? More firsts either way! Toby grinned and nodded. "Absolutely! I'll let them know. We're going next weekend, before vacation. I heard it's gonna snow."

Maia looked up from her breakfast at that. Snow? She beamed. "I'm really looking forward to the vacation," she said. Snow was another reason to be! She offered him a forkful of eggs. "We should go sledding."

Toby took the offered eggs as well. He hadn't eaten anything this morning, he might as well take what he could get.
"I am too! It'll be fun to have the whole gang there. It's big enough that we'll have our privacy, though." At the mention of sledding he nodded. "I know just the place."

Maia gave him another forkful of eggs, and then took a bite. "We'll need that," she said, when he mentioned privacy. She wanted to give him his Christmas gift in private. "What's the plan for today?"

Well, Christmas was a big deal, and with two couples in the house everyone would need privacy. Hopefully they could involve Dari as much as possible, though. The guy was very understanding, very logical, very relaxed, but Toby couldn't imagine feeling like a fifth wheel on a vacation that had previously just been you and your best friend.
"You said you wanted to go ice skating eons ago, so I thought we'd go ice skating. We can just make it up as we go from there, and I'd like to take you and Dari out for birthday dinner."

"You remembered," Maia beamed at him. She'd never been ice skating, so she was bound to fall at least once, but it'd be fun! "Alright," She smiled at him. "C'mon, let's finish my breakfast." She offered him a forkful of waffle.
"Did you even eat?" she asked.
