(I'm going to let you two skip me for a couple turns. Idk How into these things you get, so I think it'll be better for the flow if I was out of the rotation a couple times instead of simply posting to restate what had happened. Have fun~)
Xuza had a rule: never train angry. It didn't take a master empath to pick up on the vibes Chae was laying down; she wasn't as introverted as she might have hoped. Or was Xuza simply receptive after all? Whatever the case, it came across fairly clearly--this momentary lapse of control over her own perhaps another indicator--that Chae wasn't too fond of Xuza at this point. As such, it was well within her bounds to decline the match. But...
"Oh, I'll be there," said the old vet shutting her eyes and giving her torso a squeeze with her crossed arms as if preparing to nap. "Just wanted to give you two a chance to get better acquainted." She chuckled once to herself. "Just don't get all worn out, 'kay?" And with that, the match would begin.
"Shibusen," called Xuza. "Set match to light rules and no time-limit. Register new profile as 'Orion.'"
"Certainly, Miss Uriel." A small pause followed by a mid-tone boop. "Begin."
Smoke-light level: 335 Soul: good Soul Resonance: off Xylem: up
Orion smiled to himself as Chae spoke. She certainly wasn't one to back down, that's for sure. As soon as Orion heard the training grounds strange computerized voice say 'begin' his body turned to face Chae and he slowly began to walk towards her. Both of the blue haired males arms were limp at his sides, with the wooden training sword threatening to fall from his grip at any moment. "Something seems to have struck one of your nerves. Would you like to talk about it?" His voice matched his air of calm, but had a genuine concern weaved in.
However, before giving her the chance to respond, Orion crossed his feet mid-step and used that motion as a spring, propelling his body into a circular turn on the ball of his right foot. As he spun, his grip on the sword tightened and he raised it so that his turn would move the sword in a slashing motion, but much faster than what he had done moments before. From the dull edge of the blade, a wave of energy traveled in Chae's direction. Rather than having an appearance of its own, it was more like a ripple traveling through the air, singular and thin, warping everything in its path so that it would show its definite crescent shape. This wave was, despite the training weapons dull edge, very sharp. It could easily pierce through skin if it made direct contact, and in doing so would feel like cold steel. (Of course, this attack can be blocked, if you so choose.)
After his little spin had completed, Orion continued walking towards Chae with sword in hand. Orion took a quick glance back at Xuza. 'I wonder if she picked up on that.. That slash and my ability to teleport are derived from the same type of spatial manipulation after all,' he thought, turning his eyes back to Chae. This could get troublesome. If Xuza is only staying back to allow these two a bit of time to train without her, then they could easily get worn out, then neither would stand a chance against someone who could teleport around and still had a full tank of stamina. He just hoped his one-on-one spar with Chae didn't prove too tiring.ย โฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌโงxxxxโงโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌ
Chae understood her demeanor was getting the best of her and calmed down. She was building up those walls she worked so hard to bring down, her eyes following Orion's movements, watching for any minor details that could help her. He asked her a question but left little time to respond and with that she would also respond appropriately. She charged forth towards him, her eyes watching the distorted slash that came towards her and planted her hand on the ground, a soft clap as she hit the ground as a burst of wind pushed her into the air, her framed forcefully adjusting.
Whilst in the air, her gaze didn't leave his although she wasn't upright it didn't leave her without a tonne of options. She exhaled slowly, three spheres of ice forming in front of her frame before she clapped her hands, the sound hitting the ice and as it hit, propelled the small spheres of ice at him. If they hit they wouldn't do much, it would just feel like you had been shot by a bb gun.
"I overdid the force again" she said to herself, her frame flying towards the metal wall, a slight look of fear in her eyes. Chae adjusted her frame so that she would land on the wall, one leg sliding out along it to take the distribution of weight, one bending underneath her and her arm softly planting itself on the wall.
Wavelength: Stable | Mood: Distaste | With: Xuza, Orion, | OC: If you have any queues about what she did pm me and I posted what she looked like on the wall in the spoiler~
Orion watched carefully as Chae dodged his slash. Her movements much more athletic than what her appearance would suggest her being capable of. He made a mental note to not judge a book by its cover when it came to students at this academy. The way that that she had created a burst of wind just now when her hand met the ground, and before when she jumped backwards, led Orion to the conclusion that she could manipulate wind. It would have been an interesting ability if that were the case. His own affinity for electricity and his minor affinity for controlling water were the only elemental manipulations that he had seen in his lifetime. Wind was a new one, if that were the case.
His eyes narrowed ever so slightly when her breath formed spheres of frozen water in front of her. Orion could do something similar with water, only his were still liquid rather than being frozen. His mind immediately conjured the idea of forming a pool of water to give himself water to work with, but decided against it. If she could control water as well, then it wouldn't be a good idea to give her access to an entire pool of the stuff. Orion jumped to the side to avoid a couple of the ice spheres then slashed his sword upward to deflect the last of the three. His blade was turned ever so slightly when the two made contact, causing the ice to skate over the flat part of the training sword and narrowly miss Orion's cheek.
Orion was precise in the motions he made with the sword. Precise enough that one could easily assume he had been using a blade all his life. that wasn't true. In fact, he had never even picked up a blade until a couple of years ago. He was tutored in an ancient sword style that had been remade and reworked to better fit into the modern times by someone from the human world, though Orion had never been given this persons name. Only the name of the sword style they created: Shigure Soen Ryu. Some called it the Blue Swallow style, others dubbed it the Invincible Sword style after its inspiration. Learning this style was difficult. He had only been shown a few of the forms over his time being tutored, and he had only seen each one once. If he didn't take time on his own to practice, he never would have learned more than one or two of the forms. The biggest benefit of actually taking the time to learn the Shigure Soen style? Orion had become a master at using a sword in combat.
"Try fighting without anger, calm your nerves. That could help you control how much force you release," Orion stated, his ears only barely picking up what she had said. Blue hair flew in the wind as Orion took off towards Chae, now standing on the wall. He was only stepping with the balls of his feet to propel himself forward faster, his body tilted to form a more aerodynamic streamline to prevent the wind from slowing him down as he ran. When he drew near, Orion jumped into the air and pulled his sword back, thrusting it towards Chae's right shoulder in what seemed like a simple attack. However, as his arm pushed forward, it blurred out of sight halfway through. This technique was one of the few Shigure Soen forms he had been taught, known as the Beccata di Rondine. As his arm blurred out of sight, Chae would be able to notice what appeared to be 49 spears forming around Orion, all aiming at her. In reality, they weren't spears, but where the same tip of his wooden training sword moving at an incredible speed. In total, there were 50 strikes. The first being the sword in front of her, the other 49 coming one after another as Orion's arm moved at a tremendous speed. To give an estimate as to how fast he was moving? The Beccata di Rondine only takes 2 seconds for all 50 strikes to land.ย โฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌโงxxxxโงโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌ
Just so that I am aware, for future reference, whenever Chae creates a burst of air, its from her sound manipulation right?
Chae watched him carefully and heard his words, although she had thought about how she had let her emotions control her ability and rationality, she pouted, still pressed hard against the wall. "I can't control the force because I've only just started training the ability. Its not my mastery" she spoke, a soft tone returning to her voice. He was right though, she was allowing her personal feelings to take control of her thinking and was fighting with a bias view, she knew that but no one could understand her pain, no one. Everyone grieve differently and just thinking of what happened brought a small stream down her cheek, her eyes closing as she remembered that night. "Don't worry eomma, I'm doing okay" she whispered to herself, her eyes opening, returning to the soft azure that she would normally have when she relaxed and thought clearly.
She snapped back to reality and noticed that he had closed in on her, her palms quickly moving in front of her as she exhale, water materializing in front of her hands and quickly forming a thin barrier between the two, before freezing. She had to decide if it was best to evade or use brute force to overpower his attack but it was strange, she'd never seen a technique like that, given she was training in martial arts rather than weapon play. She tapped the ice, a large gust of wind pushing the wall towards him before she descended back to the ground, landing awkwardly on her ankle before propelling herself with another burst away from his location.
Putting her hands back to her side, she placed one hand behind her back, water slowly coming to her hand from the air as she watched him, her other hand resting on her hip. "You move rather fast." she spoke.
Gomenasai, Yes the small burst of wind are her sound manipulation as she's not really used to using it so she's using it in simpler ways though I will develop it given time.
Orion's onslaught rained against the icy barrier, but not long afterward it moved towards him and pushed him away from Chae. He fell back down to the ground soon after her feet touched the earth. "You can manipulate water and air? You must be quite talented," he said to her, watching as she moved one of her hands behind her back. Orion lifted the training sword and rested it on his shoulder. The way she kept her second hand hidden, it wasn't hard to read that she was preparing for some sort of attack. Most likely gathering a resource to fuel her next move.
Using his free hand to brush some of his blue hair out of his face, Orion smirked at Chae. "You're pretty quick yourself," he glanced behind him at Xuza. If he had tried to do the same thing Chae was doing, the other female would have more insight into his abilities and would be able to use that to her advantage. Instead Orion shifted his weight to his left foot, propping his knee as he stood their watching Chae closely. Orion's light blue eyes scanned her form to take in whatever details he could. 'Water manipulation, air manipulation, athletic, singer, changing eye color, and a resourceful combatant all wrapped up in one package,' he thought. 'I wonder what else she's capable of.'
Orion lowered his sword and swapped it to his other hand. He had been using his dominant hand this entire time, maybe now would be a good time to switch it up. He hoped that Chae and Xuza would assume that his swap of hands would lower how well he was able to use the sword. After all: most people aren't ambidextrous.
Orion's lips curved up into a smile. "Alright, show me what else you can do," he called to Chae, his eyes briefly shooting towards her ankle. He thought of asking if she was alright, but he needed to stay focused on what she would do next.ย โฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌโงxxxxโงโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌ

Xuza Uriel: "Angel of Death"
(Just a quick one to fill whatever gap Chisaki-san might leave us with.)
There seemed to be a lull in the action. Xuza, who had been watching the ground, listening for ques on when to warp out of the way, noticed this and looked up just in time to catch eyes with Orion. For reasons obvious to those with two X chromosomes Xuza was suddenly aware of the reality that Orion might have in fact glanced over more than that one time. A soft wave and smile back to the blue-haired boy.
Somebody's curious...
Whatever the case, Xuza was clearly trying not to spoil the surprise for herself. But... Hmmm...
The point of having these two go first was to have Chae calm down a little. That had been accomplished. Taking quicker turns would also cut down on fatigue, thus maximising enjoyment. She literally stirred with anticipation as the idea wrestled its way past the logical barriers put in place by years of necessary survivalist pragmatism: a sigh.
"Hey!" She called, stepping about twenty feet closer in one stride. "I got an idea; what if we take short turns? I just feel like no one wants to fight someone who's all worn out." She turned to Chae and bowed her head a little. "If that's alright with you, that is." And then back to Orion.
"What do you say? I think I owe you after how much I teased you yesterday." She winked playfully and pulled from the weapon-wall a rapier with a rubber tip on the point. She swished it around, sharply snapping the air with a certain hypnotic quality.
Smoke-light level: 335 Soul: good Soul Resonance: off Xylem: up
Orion blinked in surprise as Xuza warped closer to the two. He listened quietly to her proposal, but kept his eyes trained on Chae, hoping she wouldn't take that opportunity to attack. He relaxed when Xuza mentioned not wanting to fight someone who had already tired themselves out. "That sounds like a good idea," he replied with a short sigh of relief.
As Xuza reached over to grab a rapier, Orion couldn't help but smile. Someone else who used weapons. Good. "Your weapon of choice is a rapier, then? Quick strikes, pinpoint accuracy, keep the opponent at bay until you make a move. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that the strategy that you use?" His question was full of curiosity. He had never used a rapier himself, but from what he knew of them, he described the typical way one would use such a thin weapon. Orion reached a hand out slowly and placed a finger on the rubber tip, pushing on it slightly to feel whether or not he would be in danger of injury should that point come into contact with his body.
Nodding, satisfied, Orion kept his right hand free at his side with the sword in his left. "I'm curious to see what else you're capable of," he said to Xuza, almost taunting her to do something other than teleport.ย โฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌโงxxxxโงโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌ

Xuza Uriel: "Angel of Death"
"Well, that is the way you'd use one, yes," said Xuza with a silent chuckle, "but I think you'd be surprised just how more force that 'precision' can put out." She took a step back, warping again in her curious way. After Chae had given the two the go-ahead Xuza flipped her sword out to her side.
"What I can do?" She asked narrowing her eyes somewhat incredulously. "I don't know if I like your tone, mister. Fufufu." Her laugh was always that way. More of a chuff than anything.
"Well, okay. Although the same goes for you." Something began to change in the air--a rippling, if you must--around Xuza's back. It looked as though wings were starting to form. Soon metallic-looking wings were there.
"I'll just give you a little sample, mm?" Soon the wings released an inky shadow. It curled and crawled through the air as smoke, and made no concession to light. There was a rapid oscillation then, and it continued to form the shape of her wings--as many shapes all fighting for the same sovereignty in time. "See," she began after a 'phew,' "I normally keep these things closed. Now they're open. Without them I can't do anything but warp."
Next electricity coated her blade in small arcs. There was a small change in Xuza's demeanor as well, but this seemed to be less drastic than her increase in power.
"Right! Be ready!" Xuza swiped her sword through the air and launched an arc of electricity, a miniature lightning bolt, at Orion with little warning. Secretly she hoped he would dodge it, but there was a time to be cocky too.
Smoke-light level: 150 Soul: good Soul Resonance: off Xylem: up
As Xuza's wings took shape, Orion's eyes narrowed considerably. She had mentioned that she kept them closed. Did that mean that she wasn't human? If not, then what was she? An angel? That's what she reminded Orion of. Even if her wings were darker in color and metallic, her appearance with her wings unfolded looked closer to angelic than anything he could think of. "What is that smoke from?" Orion, rather than remark on the electricity circling Xuza's sword, chose instead to ask about the nature of the wings she had just formed. In fact, his focus seemed to be trained more on those than the electricity Xuza had launched his way.
When the electricity came in contact with his body, the reaction that he gave was a scratch to his now bare chest, from the hole the lightning had created. Electricity was a strange thing. It could burn materials, it moved incredibly fast, and it filled entire spaces with light. However, Orion had been using electricity for almost his entire life. He grew up generating and manipulating it, and eventually his skin reacted to lightning in almost the same way that electricity reacted to rubber. He glanced down at the singed fabric and pouted. "My shirt...." For the next few seconds Orion continued to whine about his damaged clothing, and afterwards, he turned his head upwards to look at Xuza again. He stretched out a hand and electricity shot forth in a straight line, aimed for Xuza's left wing.
For someone who had never been able to experience anger, this was as close as he got to being mad. It was a sad display really, he seemed rather bummed out. It would be another couple of days until he was able to purchase more clothing, or take a shower for that matter. As those thoughts crossed his mind, he shot another bolt of lightning towards the right wing. His goal was to get her down on the ground. While she was up in the air, there wasn't much Orion would be able to do. He would have to resort to long ranged attacks and trying to get her closer. And if it ended up coming to that, they might not get very far. He based his conclusion from what he had seen. Should Xuza continue pelting him with electricity from above, she would only continue to burn his clothes, and if Orion had to attack at a range that wasn't close up, he wouldn't be able to really hit her. What a conundrum.
Orion looked past Xuza and towards the sky. No rain clouds today. That's good. At least he wouldn't be able to use that attack. If things went too far and he was able to resort to.... The thought of what could happen made him shiver. He had only just met these two yesterday. If he ended up going too far and it had been storming today, he might end up losing two potential friends already. Not to mention he would have to take a visit to the hospital. His worried expression softened and he smiled up at the winged Xuza. "Just a fair warning, electricity won't do you much good," he called up to her. Even if Orion's words sounded rude, he was only trying to help.ย โฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌโงxxxxโงโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌ

Xuza Uriel: "Angel of Death"
This was kind of interesting. Orion hardly seemed damaged at all. The answer as to why came to her in the form of a retaliating bolt. Xuza had opened her mouth to apologise when the first bolt hit. Her feet touched the ground.
This was always how it was. Xuza froze up whenever a bit of electricity hit her--it happened more times than one might initial consider, what with all the elemental fighters out there--Orion certainly being processed as another--until her wings finally absorbed and contained the energy. The electricity bounced around, singed her a little, and then clung to the wing which was struck. It diffused into an invisible field of electromagnetic energy.
"Oh yeah?" She said after having both wings full of power now. She rose a couple feet off the ground and hovered. "Well, I think I should say the same. See, these bad boys absorb energy. I control electromagnetism, so that pretty much means I can hover around as well as hurl lightning at you." She chuckled. She warped a few times, afterward her wings seemed to dark (they had lightened in color after her first attack).
"Ya know," she said coming to a stop, "we're pretty similar: electricity, warping all over the place, swords; what, should I die my hair blue and pretend we're twins? Vufufufu." There was that giggle again. She sighed at the end, raising her sword.
"Alright... Back to it." Xuza came at Orion again, gliding through the air with impressive smoothness as she went in for a lunge to test out his swordplay.
Smoke-light level: 250 Soul: good Soul Resonance: off Xylem: up
Orion cocked his head to the side. Someone who used electricity was able to be stunned by that same element? It was a strange concept to him. It had been so long since he had actually felt what it was like to be shocked. He made a mental note to ask her about it later. His eyes strayed from Xuza back to the wings. "Your wings are the source of your abilities, minus the ability to move through space. Interesting," Orion readied his sword as Xuza glided towards him. "Besides, I rather enjoy your hair the way it is." When she lunged, he moved slightly to the side so that the rubber tip of her rapier poked at the left side of his chest.
It was that moment when he decided to counter. As the rapier's tip dug into his chest, Orion swung his sword with his left arm aimed for Xuza's left side. However, mid-slash, he dropped the sword from his grip. As the sword fell, it landed in the palm of his right hand that had mimicked the same motion his left had. As the slash continued, the target was now a much lower spot on Xuza's body. Namely her just below her left hip on her thigh, only the motion was slightly faster now. The Samidare, the move Orion had just used, was designed as a Shigure Soen form with the purpose of drawing the opponents guard away from the intended target. By feinting a swing then performing it at a lower location, slightly faster.
After his move, should it be successful or a failure, Orion took a few steps back from Xuza, rubbing his chest where her rapier had hit him. There was a red mark from the force of her lunge, and Orion guessed it would end up turning into a welt within the hour. "Before we continue, can I ask you something?" Such a sudden change in topic. First they were attacking each other, and now of all times was when he ended up getting curious. Orion had wonderful timing, says everyone who has ever known him, with their words drenched in thick gooey sarcasm.ย โฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌโงxxxxโงโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌ

Xuza Uriel: "Angel of Death"
It certainly worked, whatever it was Orion did. Xuza seemed to watch it float past her eyes in slow motion.
Eventually the two would come to face each other again on even ground. She took note of how much taller he stood on the training field; Death help him and damn her if Orion wasn't one of them. She looked ready to strike again, but then he stopped her dead in her tracks. A comical bobble came of it as Xuza teetered on one foot, one toe even, hopped a couple times, and finally came to a stop on the dusty floor of the training field.
"Um... Sure," said the winged one looking up at him. She took this time to shut her wings. They were still there, in their metallic form, just not all crazy mobius as they were a moment ago. "What's up?" Boy, this would be a weird place to ask someone out. Was Orion about to ask Xuza if she was single?? The thought but a hot nail in the bottom of her spine. She could move miles in an instant, but here in this instant she was completely tied down to the task of chasing that--and the obvious blush that would come with such a thought--away forever and ever--BANISH! A bit of a shuffle; she played it off as just kicking up some dust out of boredom as a hand flipped a bang back into place.
Smoke-light level: 250 Soul: good Soul Resonance: on Xylem: up
Orion arched an eyebrow as Xuza's movements went from fierce and fluid to awkward as he paused the battle. Her hopping made him giggle. Yes, giggle. Not the more manly chuckle, but the more lighthearted giggle. Regardless of how heated everything had been before or even how much more heated it could prove to be soon, Orion was having fun. He had never trained with such skilled opponents before. Each of them in their own right knew roughly what they were capable of and knew how to produce desired effects. Up until then, every time he had trained it had been with weird beings made of energy who could teach you the most complicated equations in rocket science or particle physics but could barely even slash with a sword the proper way. It was a miracle that Orion was able to learn his skills from them.
"I was wondering about your wings," he began. He tilted his head towards the sky as he thought how to phrase is question without hurting her feelings. "I'm not trying to upset you, or make you feel out of place. I'm asking because they're unique. I haven't seen another person with wings." Orion placed a hand on his face, groaning slightly. He knew that it had come out the wrong way. "I like them, they look really cool," he tried to correct himself as he shifted his feet slightly. For the first time since he had arrived in this world, Orion felt awkward. He continued talking, struggling to find the right words. "Uh... Are they a part of you, or are they another one of your abilities?"
There, he said it. He slowly lifted his face from his palm to look at Xuza, slightly afraid that he would see a face of anger or sadness. He straightened himself out, opening himself up to a free shot as payback for whatever ill will Orion might have conjured up with his question. He tensed every muscle in his body, partly so that he didn't instinctively jump out of the way, and partly so that whatever Xuza would do wouldn't knock him back too far. He flashed her an apologetic smile and then looked over at Chae, making sure that she was out of the way in case of some crazy burst of energy. That's how his mind worked. If an outcome was unknown, he thought of as many possibilities as he could. The current unknown was Xuza's reaction, and the possibilities ranged anywhere from Orion being smacked to a huge explosion of rage and power to something as simple as Xuza waving off the question and giving a happy answer. Whatever the outcome, Orion still feared for what she might do.ย โฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌโงxxxxโงโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌเฎโฌโฌ

Xuza Uriel: "Angel of Death"
Ah, that--those, whatever. Xuza hadn't given herself to brooding over her mistakes (what she saw as mistakes, because she was the responsible/accountable type), nor had she fully removed the meaning behind these wings. This new attitude came about somewhere around a year ago, and it carried through and gained yet another layer of maturity after the Illo incident. It was that face she brought to Orion: one slightly beleaguered but overall no worse for wear.
"Well..." She began sliding her sword back in its sheath. "I guess you might say it's a little of both, but it's mostly just something I have to deal with." Xuza wasn't sure why he was so tense, but she knew why he would be. Was it that obvious that a question like that could set someone off? Was he on high alert since Chae got upset? Who could say? All she knew was that in this moment Orion looked like someone who was probably a very good listener. People like those were hard to come by; it is always better t keep them around, and so it goes that people who are good listeners often get treated as though they're heroes.
"I only have a limited control of them yet. I've seen what they can do..." In the small gap in between the words Xuza spoke a curious reaction took place, an after-effect of her using her powers.
Keep an eye on the girl...
Save the boy...
Savethe--I wonder what this means---I've seen that before!
Divide and conquer... Darling Meister...
"... And I gotta say, they're pretty wild. I'm getting the hang of manipulating space. Time is another issue," she continued, the latter thought being more hushed. "I can also do things with electromagnetism--as you just saw. I've developed a theory that these powers are just control over different dimensions proposed in string theory," She said sounding much more intellectual than her previous bubbly self.
