The idea of the Earth moving out from under people, when they're frozen to one spot somehow, is based on using the Sun as the frame of reference instead of the Earth.
Except that the idea of a person no longer being affected by the momentum of all objects that are spinning at high speed along with the earth only uses the earth as a frame of reference.
If I used the sun as a frame of reference I would have mentioned that a person would either be flung into space or slammed into the earth at hundreds of thousands of miles per hour if they ever stopped their motion completely. I never looked up the number pertaining to what speed the earth orbits the sun at, but I imagine it's quite high.
That is using the sun as a frame of reference.
If you're using some other point in space as a frame of reference, I can only imagine that you'd be hurled out into the void of space within the blink of an eye.
This doesn't just apply to time magic, but also to any character that can affect acceleration or (like the one I fought in GTB I) can 'absorb kinetic energy'.
