Failed Time Magician

-Moves time forward six hours staying the same as the world moves said amount of time.

-Is now screwed over because the planet has moved said amount miles in space while his position remains the same. s**t.......... should have practiced his time magic more.

This is actually something I'd been thinking about doing with a character I was thinking about making - a magician. Not like a wizard, or a sorcerer, but like an actual stage magician that did minor tricks and impossible things on a very small scale.

Being able to freeze time for one person for half a second = that person suddenly 'accelerates' to over 1000 mph in one direction (IIRC that's roughly the speed that the earth spins at).

Completely OP for a totally minor thing compared to what other characters do.

that whole temporal crap is why Noire switched from Time to space. Acceleration is so broken it made other broken abilities look passe'.

where's jello? I need to ask some questions about a programming idea.

I'm here, and such.

Though I don't really have any programming knowledge outside of what you can do on a TI-83.

The idea of the Earth moving out from under people, when they're frozen to one spot somehow, is based on using the Sun as the frame of reference instead of the Earth. If you used the center of the galaxy as the frame of reference, you'd be out of the Earth's orbit altogether. Einstein's showed that everything is relative, so using anything besides the Earth or something on Earth as the reference point...makes no sense.

The idea of the Earth moving out from under people, when they're frozen to one spot somehow, is based on using the Sun as the frame of reference instead of the Earth.

Except that the idea of a person no longer being affected by the momentum of all objects that are spinning at high speed along with the earth only uses the earth as a frame of reference.

If I used the sun as a frame of reference I would have mentioned that a person would either be flung into space or slammed into the earth at hundreds of thousands of miles per hour if they ever stopped their motion completely. I never looked up the number pertaining to what speed the earth orbits the sun at, but I imagine it's quite high.

That is using the sun as a frame of reference.

If you're using some other point in space as a frame of reference, I can only imagine that you'd be hurled out into the void of space within the blink of an eye.

This doesn't just apply to time magic, but also to any character that can affect acceleration or (like the one I fought in GTB I) can 'absorb kinetic energy'.

I've seen it explained using a twirling basket ball as an anology.

The pivotal point of the rotation determines the impact of the momentum.
