It's hard having a friend that's on the other side of the world and the only means of interacting you have is social media. So when they end up going silent for awhile on the social media you both share in common, you're just sitting there going "Hello? Are you good?" whee

There was a special event where some of the filming crew of OFMD talked about BTS aspects of the show and I'm loving all of the tidbits fans have been sharing on Bluesky. Like apparently Stede had a heart on his left backside on his mermaid tail. heart

I'm all caught up on my work tasks, so I'm trying to figure out what to do to keep myself entertained for the rest of my shift. *sighs*

Mary Anne stared off into the distance at the blue horizon through the windows across her cabin as she absentmindedly twirled her knife on its point on top of the table, deepening the hole in the wood that had been there since she had acquired it.
"Captain?"
Mary Anne tore her gaze away from the window to look over at the crew member shifting awkwardly before her.
"Sorry to interrupt," continued the crewmember. "It's just you asked for us to notify you of any changes."
"And?"
"A ship has appeared on the horizon."
"Oh?" Mary Anne could feel her patience slowly being irritated by how slowly this crew member was getting to the point.
"It's still too far away to tell for sure... but... it does match the descriptions of the ship you've spoken of."
Mary Anne sighed as she straightened up and leaned against her desk; yes, this crew member was going to get on her nerves very quickly. "Which ship exactly? There are countless ships I've spoken about."
"Right, sorry," said the crewmember, stumbling over his words. "I meant the Revenge."
"The Revenge!" exclaimed Mary Anne, quickly coming to her feet causing the chair to momentarily stand on several legs before settling back safely on all four. "Why didn't you say so in the first place?!" She rushed past the crew member, leaving him confused behind her.

It didn't take long before the ship drew close enough that Mary Anne was able to confirm through her telescope that it was indeed The Revenge. While the ship's flag was slightly different than what she recalled hearing about, the ship's design couldn't be mistaken. Far too fancy for a true pirate but there was enough signs to indicate it had survived through some battles, like the headless and legless unicorn on the front.
The corner of her mouth rose as she gazed upon the unicorn. She had heard where one of the legs of said unicorn had gone.
"What are your orders, captain?"
"Change course to meet them," she turned to look at the crew member. "Approach in a friendly manner, please."
"Ah, sneak attack then?"
She flashed cold eyes at the crew member, who cowered at the sudden change in her behavior. "We are not to make enemies with The Revenge!"
"Of course. Pardon my mistake."
"Off you go."
The crew member scrabbled to let their fellow crew member at the wheel know their new destination. Mary Anne sighed as she turned back to look at the distant ship. She was going to have to make an overhaul on her crew and soon.

The Odyssey smoothly came about next to The Revenge. Mary Anne looked across the divide at the crew on the neighboring ship quickly looking over them and she frowned slightly not recognizing any of the individuals before her.
"Uh, hello!" called out the tall man with dark curly hair and wearing a long dark coat with gold accents.
"You must be the Captain?" inquired Mary Anne, tilting her head.
"Captain?" echoed the man before getting jabbed in the side by the shorter individual next to him. Mary Anne's eyes locked on the familiar leather pants and vest ensemble. "Yes! Yes, I *am* the Captain."
"Well, it's an honor to meet you," said Mary Anne, trying not to laugh. "I apologize for the unexpected arrival but I had spotted your ship from a distance and couldn't miss the opportunity to stopping by to say hello. However..." She looked over the crew again, hoping that maybe she missed who she was looking for the first time. "It seems the individuals I had hoped to surprise aren't among you."
"Who are you looking for?" called the leather-ensembled individual, a bit defensively.
"Well... word has it, a certain Blackbeard had been on this ship for some time. As well as his First Mate Izzy Hands. Have I been misinformed?"
Their crew exchanged glances among each other, and she spotted the gloomy vibe that suddenly overcame them. The individual sighed before turning back to her. "It looks like we've got a lot to catch you up on."
"I see," said Mary Anne, as she turned her attention to the Captain. "Permission to come aboard.... Captain?"
"Permission granted."

"Ed retired from pirate life with this Stede... and Izzy..." said Mary Anne, stopping as she caught her voice almost breaking with emotion. Once she composed herself again, she continued, "Anyway, it does seem like the things I had heard had been true. It's not the first time I've heard tales of Blackbeard's demise along with his crew... but they were always false. Just attempts of getting the crown's authorities off their backs, so to speak."
"I'm sorry to be the bearer of such news," said the Captain, who she had learned was named Frenchie.
Mary Anne waved a hand towards him before grabbing her mug to take a sip of the liquid inside. She grimaced slightly at the bitter taste. "To be expected in this line of work. You always hear about the death or so-called retirement of pirates left and right. But it hits differently when it's someone you actually know."
"You were close with them?" asked Jim, who was in the leather ensemble and had confirmed certain pieces had formerly been Izzy's.
"Yeah... we were close," said Mary Anne, smirking and lightly chuckling. "I mean... technically on the King's land, I would still be considered Ed's wife. And Izzy and I... well... we had a special arrangement of similar nature."
The Revenge crew shifted and stared at her with wide eyes.
"You were married to Blackbeard?!" One of them - Black Pete - finally said, in almost awe.

"It was a short-lived occasion," clarified Mary Anne. "We were in love, yes, but we soon realized we were better off as friends. Never officially divorced as we found it would be beneficial to keep certain benefits in place should anything happen."
"And you were close with Izzy?" asked the slim man, Lucius, next to him. She spotted the faint smirk on his face.
"Something like that," returned Mary Anne, meeting his smirk with one of her own. He nodded slightly in acknowledgement of the unspoken words.
A silence fell over them as the crew continued to process what they found out.
"Why did you leave them?" finally asked the long blond-haired one, The Swede.
"Emotions are complicated," said Mary Anne, shifting to lean forward on the table. "Especially when you are getting out of one relationship and start having feelings towards another one. And both individuals are close in their own regard. I suppose... I suppose I needed some space to myself to figure out the truth of my emotions at the time."

A few hours later, the crew were standing at the edge of the deck as she was making her way over to the plank between their ships.
"You really don't have to leave so soon," said Swede, sadly.
She reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder, flashing a smile in his direction. "I'm sure we will cross paths again soon. But I do need to go pay my respects while the timing is still adequate. Well, as adequate as news on the ocean can allow."
Jim let out a snort of amusement at the truth of the statement. Mary Anne turned towards them and stepped forward to fix the black cravat around their neck; she saw their cheeks turn pink at the gesture.
"Keep his legend alive," said Mary Anne. "Make him proud."
"I will," replied Jim, nodding.
"Until next time," said Mary Anne, waving at the rest before smoothly making her way across the plank despite the sudden light waves coming through making the ships bob up and down at different increments.

"Oh, would you look at that," said Stede, shading his eyes from the sun looking at the ship anchored a slight distance from the sandy shore. "It appears we have an unexpected arrival."
"Unexpected arrival?" said Ed, from within the Inn before stepping out on the deck. "Who the f*ck would be coming to our Inn without a prior reservation?!"
"I know we typically work on reservations only but you have to admit it's been a bit slow lately," replied Stede. "So it would be a lucky day for both." He turned to look at Ed and frowned seeing Ed frozen on the deck staring out at the ship. "Ed? Are you okay?"
"It can't be..." whispered Ed, slowly stepping off the deck and walking towards the ship, past Stede.
"Ed?" inquired Stede again before following after him.
Ed eventually came to stop in line with the path of a rowboat that had finally entered the water from the ship. Stede slowly came to a halt next to him, looking between Ed and the arriving rowboat.
"Do you... Do you know these people?"
"If it's still owned by the same person..." said Ed, quietly, before glancing over at Stede with watery eyes. "Yes."
