That won't stop people from converting them, though.
Having looked at the Storm, it doesn't necessarily look like it'll be that difficult of a conversion. Hell, the lazy player could just slap "running boards" onto the sides of their speeder and give it the appropriate weaponry.

im getting a speeder to make a storm, i have seen the photos of the storm from Games Day on Belloflostsouls, and im thinking that modifying the engines inside, then cutting a section from the "roof" armour wont be hard, then add another set of "wings" (plasticard) and a spare terminator missile launcher to the underside. and all i will need are some scouts to fill the storm with!

Which is what we've been saying for quite a while, buddy. Care to add anything new to the discussion?

*sigh* And Legion of the Damned are black with flames.
Is anybody else pissed off that GW has made them an elites choice? One of my hopes for my eventual Marine army was to amass some of the old LotD minis and put together a force of them. Now that they're codex choices, more people will be using them and won't know the badass fluffiness behind them.

Err... Yes they will.
First of all the fluff section of them in the book explains all about them.
Secondly they are perfect in game as well, they come in as reserves, they are slow and purposeful, like in the fluff they come when help is most needed (aka reserves, and just playing a battle means you need them) and they slowly walk across the battlefirld smiting the enemy.

Explaining their entire background does ruin the mystery behind the Legion of the Damned. gonk

Does it go way into depth about them?
Putting them in as a Codex choice kinda lowers the coolness factor, since everyone will know about them. Didn't they used to be something that had rules given during the first Apocalypse or something?
@Cale: You can still make a whole army of them if you want, it's just that they will be regular marines and such. It'll still be menacing to see a whole army of old models. You'll freak out some of the newbies for sure.

Legion of the Damned have never really had official rules, but they have some of the most badass minis ever forged.

The deal on them being S&P does make a hell of a lot of sense, though. And it makes me happy. I just have to buy my local Ultramarine player some new Lascannon and Heavy Bolter boys so that I can "borrow" his LotD Marines. What's great is that he had no idea what the models were when he got them, so they were painted as Ultramarines.

You guys don't read enough WD's! XD
No, it's not the "entire" fluff, it's the fluff that's always been out there, in example that they were the chapter named Fire Hawks before a terrible incident, or that they might be fallen marines who gets another chance to fight and help their brethren etc, none of the fluff is nailed on, it's just things that the imperium assumes they are.
And yes they did have official rules, both in WD's and some other book which I don't remember the name of, and I think they were in the book index astartes with almost all special chapters, they've had a whole army and allied units.
And why use old smelly miniatures when GW's making new ones that looks HELL AWESOME! Bones and flames for everyone! YEY!

YEY! thats the problem, they are MAKING them, so we have to wait a year for their release anyway, plus i bet it wont be a unique kit, its gonna be a tactical squad kit with another sprue with some bones/flames on it, i bet you.

No, new metal models. No upgrade packs. Full pewter models of zombie marines with heavy flamers and what not.

well THATS ok then!
thank god, as great as the upgrade kits can be, i am kinda tired of GW making upgrade kits for marines (and they have only done 2!) but it's just agravating that it isn't a completely unique kit, instead its a handful of replacements for the tactical squad kit.
[/tyrade]
still, i also dislike metal models... picky that i am... GW needs some completely new plastic marine kits.
