That's arguably better then having real time dictated to you by someone who thinks a whip is a proper counter to being 'punched in the face'.

Nothing at all.
Until you're setting, flicking, and striking with your whip in the span of no time at all.
Because a dude who wants to punch you in the face- is probably not gona let you re-set your whip. xD
It just seemed...stupid to me in the end?
I duno though. I've thought crazier?- So I guess what I know about whips could be off? And you can just spam flail them randomly and have them be effective?

Seems to me that if your opponent is close enough for you to punch him in the face, there would not be enough room to even use a whip effectively.
