Death Watch is dead, all hail the Sternguard, which GW says replaces DW completely.

Death Watch kicks a** with a librarian in each unit, all veterans with kick a** weapons....
Now imagine 18 DW, two very done up librarians, all of the DW with power weapons, some with Lightening claws and a power fist, with Marneus Calgar and 27 Honor Guard with him.
Total ownage.

I dislike the new Marine codex, but I'm biased. I have to assemble something like twenty new Space Marines so that I have a decent list now [Seeing as all my Tactical squads are now Sternguard due to the inability to have a list with the rules of Cleanse and Purify], my command squad IS illegal [it lacks an Apothecary], and I dislike how GW's going "TAKE MASTER MASTER BOO NON-SPECIAL CHARACTER LIBRARIAN / CHAPLAIN!" I know they're supposed to not be involved in the regular engagement, but... They're like a Power Armored Nob now to me, but with a BS.

I think it's a wonderful codex though if you had a pre-standing army that doesn't need a rehaul, or you were thinking of starting Marines but didn't have anything yet. Me? I'll be working on my Orks at the moment, both because of the dislike [though again from me having to rehaul my entire army instead of the rules] and the mass of SM players spawned by 5th Ed.

This is more a thing of rules than codices. With the changes in rules, Space Marines have become so much more appealing. Against most armies, they have either the upper hand or a fair similarity in CC. They can outshoot most things. They're tougher. With running, they've been made much more likely to see CC.

I know I'll be picking up the codex along with a master of the fleets some time this year for my own Blood Raven strike force.

Everyone's going to be taking a special character and a Master now, unless they want that new Techpriest HQ's weapon. Think, a chance to have an orbital bombardment along with them being the most powerful of all characters in the SM codex?

I can see that a lot of my friends will be taking Master and Captain. A couple people in my group have developed loves for bikes (mostly after I started fielding them). From what I saw, Captains allow for bikes to be taken as troops, yes?

I think that's only the White Scars character. But to be fair, he has a "Roll a six to wound and you die" power weapon.

Captains on bikes allow fo bikers as troops, regardless of chapter.

Thanks for the clarification on that, Brookman.

Looks like the only Advantage that hasn't been introduced in some way is the one that gave Tank Hunters.

Actually, Vanguards do have to pay for their Jump Packs. And they're mighty expensive.
