The official Japanese website of the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann robot anime movie remake confirmed that the film has been named Gekijō-ban Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann: Guren-hen (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann the Movie: Crimson Chapter) and scheduled for September 6. The news was first announced at the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2008 last weekend. As she announced at TAF, otaku personality Shoko Nakagawa will return to perform a new theme song. The film will re-edit the first part of the television series story with some newly animated scenes.

Heh... I remember when that whole thing started on /m/... hell, there's whole chunks of /m/chan dedicated to it, complete with art, scripts, and brainstorming sessions.

Probably the funniest bit was the thread where it was decided that no matter where they were, Kamina and Kittan NEVER entered or exited through the doorways. Windows, walls, skylights, etc... but not the door.

gonk gonk gonk gonk gonk gonk gonk

WTF!?!?

The North American distributor Bandai Entertainment has announced at its New York Comic Con 2008 panel at 17:43 on Friday that it has licensed Hiroyuki Imaishi and Gainax's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann robot anime series. Another distributor, ADV Films, had announced at Anime Expo 2007 in July that it had licensed this series. However, ADV Films then removed this series and many others from its catalog in January, and did not restore Gurren Lagann's place in its catalog when the other titles returned in February.

The story begins on a future Earth where people are forced to live in isolated underground villages. One boy uncovers a key to a robot, and the resulting adventures put him in the battles waging on the surface and lead him to the secrets behind humanity's new existence.

The second, however, came entirely out of left field, to cheers and gasps of surprise from the audience. Aniplex and Bandai Entertainment will be bringing out the North American release of Gurren Lagann. To get this highly anticipated anime out to fans as soon as possible, there will be two separate releases. In July, August, and September, the entire series will be brought out in a bare-bones sub-only format, at nine episodes per DVD. This will be followed in the first months of 2009 by a more standard release, containing both the original Japanese audio and a completely new English dub. Scenarios for online distribution are also being considered.

I don't know about you, but it seems kind of stupid to me for a company to license a title, DUB it, show the first two dubbed episodes at Ohayocon, stream the first 3 episodes for free online, AND put a preview for it on at least one of their DVDs (Wallflower v2)...and then for them to just give it up to another company to do an entirely new dub for it.

I smell something fishy going on.

I had heard rumors a while ago that Gainax was trying to take the license away from ADV, but I didn't believe that. The rumor of a legal issue with Gurren Lagann makes more sense now.

I'd REALLY like to know what happened...

(Luna's new mule...btw...and that's awsome, Hila. Yoko will send you a friend request xd )
