OH GOD NO, I don't own one, neither does my school... Hell, I'm too poor to own my bassoon, saddly cry . But I went to Blue Lake again last year and our tech teacher brought in his and let us play it. I only had it for like, 15 mintues, but it was frigging amazing.

bassoonchyckie One question... ever played a Contra-Bassoon? THAT, my friend, is the sweetest instrument out there... i wish i could play it all the time... Our bassoon instructor at summer camp would practice contra-bassoon all the time in her office. I knew what they looked like, but I had never seen one in real life, and one time I walked by her office and she was practicing and the door was open and I just stood there staring, and she was like "Um...hi?" So i've always just fooled around on oboe (because I play flute) but yesterday I played for..maybe three hours, and I realized that i've actually gotten good. Like, real good. smile I wish my BD would let me play it in band, but she MAKES me be flute section leader. Ugh.

w00t for bassoons XD!
I started in 6th grade and was section leader all through out middle school. Now, in high school, I play tenor sax for marching but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be switching back when concert season starts.
Sadly, I've never played on a contra but I SO want to! I went to a concert once and they had a whole 10 minutes of contra and regular bassoon playing (they played Harry Potter!!!!). Another rad instrument is a bass sax, there's like no embouchre(sp?) and it still sounds awesome.

hmm. I have a question for all you double reed players. Do you have any suggestions on how to play better in tune? xp I don't have the greatest ear all the time, and that gets kind of icky for an oboe player.... stare So yeah, I want to be able to hear pitches more easily when I play them out of tune. Any ideas?
